Can you imagine either of those races run without a whip Eddie?
Horseracing epitomises all things good….Passion,Power,Grace,Excitement,Bravery. All words associated with Whips flailing in a do-or-die finish. Its races like those that give us thrill seekers a buzz and what makes Horseracing ‘The Sport of Kings’,perhaps a Government Warning should be attached for those on here who shall we say lack a bit of moral fibre and are perhaps just a little bit out of their comfort zone!December 5, 2011 at 17:30 #381220If you had your way Mr Fisher I supposed you’d like to see jockeys drawing a feather while you tuck in to your poorly shot grouse?
Comparing Fred Archer with Lester Piggott is like comparing a petit Chablis with a Grand Cru! Had you said Robert Earnshaw and Fred Archer,i wouldn’t have dissagreed. Its a good sign to have ‘Shot’ in ones Grouse by the way,its the REAL way to serve it! No doubt you are a veggie yourself Eclipse eh?
You couldn’t be further from reality. As regards the shooting and preparation of game, if you are going to a London restaurant where they serve birds full of shot, the locals must be keeping the better specimen for themselves.
In regards of Fred Archer, I will have to bow to your first-hand knowledge, being only a slip of a girl myself I wasn’t fortunate enough to see him ride in the flesh.
December 5, 2011 at 17:55 #381226Kingy…dont ever stop mate , we had proper racing then ….the new sanitized version is enough to make you feel ill
Eddie thanks for the memory , I remember it well , I had my last 4 quid on Roberto , what a thrill ….what a ride , it made me hooked triple strength on the racing game
Eclipse , nice to know your a slip of a girl , I think your posts are quality , even though we differ a lot , for you the Bigadier wont mean much , but he was the most outstanding miler of all time , and could win at other distances, and after having a really hard race in the King George , he ran too soon at York and was outpointed by a brilliant front running ride from a relatively unknown American jock …such was the genius that was Vincent O Brien
Take note he had Prince Rose the sire of Princequillo on the dams side ..which was and still is a very big plus in any pedigree
Ricky
Give em hell Kingy ….
December 5, 2011 at 18:04 #381227Ricky, the first time I went racing was Champion Stakes Day 1987, the day after the hurricane. I managed to rescue the day by backing Master Pokey in the getting out stakes and then adjourned to Swynford Paddocks Hotel where after much Bolly we commandeered some carrots from the kitchens and went out and fed the Brigadier in the gloaming. So though I never saw him race he is the best horse I have seen in the flesh.
Whether Frankel will have as active or successful four year old campaign I dont know, the trouble is I fear Mr Queally couldn’t settle dust.December 5, 2011 at 18:07 #381228Cormack I believe you do an excellent job. However being "agin the Government" is part of my Irish heritage and I believe that many on the forum suffer from that same DNA. Hence any post by "the government" raises the heckles of some members. The knee jerk responce. The lower your profile the more they will love you.Let the kids go out to play, don’t go playing with us.
December 5, 2011 at 18:13 #381231wow , what a girl
As for Mr Queally …he is not too bad , but there are very few Jocks nowadays who have the hands to settle ….I agree he is not one of them …if only he could be ridden by Pat Eddery in his pomp
For me Murtagh , Dettori , have the hands that work …with a special mention for that young lad Barzalona…one to watch big time
Ricky
December 5, 2011 at 19:36 #381240Sad to say that the Brigadier had not always been treated well after his racing career was finished, but some people on here seem to think that such stories are made up by "do-gooders". The truth is, that if a horse as legendary as the Brigadier can be dealt with in such a way, it comes down to the milk of human kindness, which runs deep in some and dry in others.
December 5, 2011 at 21:23 #381252Eclipse,i tested you a while back and you passed, your posts have certainly earned my respect and i too like Ricky enjoy your contributions particularly for ‘one from the other side’ keep up the good work.
Ricky, whats rattled me is the fact that i had allowed the Whip situation to settle down and was happy to see how things panned out and then i read total Tosh about 99% B*lls*it this and that and Corm of all people suggesting that because 0 horses from 8000 runners returned free from Weal marks over a completely inadequate period compared to the massive 2 from 8000 that had,
required my response just to let these sensitive souls know that they can kid themselves around their camp fire but they wont pull the wool over my eyes! Their fragility doesn’t belong in robust debate, particularly when its quite apparent that the thought of a horse receiving 1 backhander over the odds makes them weak at the knees.Had the BHA stipulated that the rules allowed 10 strikes at Aintree, these drama queens would be exposed yet again as just that! This debate has certainly seperated the Men from the Boys,in what is historically a Mans game!December 5, 2011 at 21:31 #381253This debate has certainly seperated the Men from the Boys,in what is historically a Mans game!
Harrrumph!!!
December 5, 2011 at 21:41 #381256I thought it was a PORG’s game
December 5, 2011 at 22:12 #381264Kingfisher – yet again you seem content to deride others with contrasing views to your own , with comments such as, drama queens etc.
Sensitive souls , is actually a compliment to all but the likes of you my friend.
Any facts that you wish to illumiate us with , or just the normal illogical diatribe ?December 5, 2011 at 22:13 #381265P.S. good to see that you are a self appointed tester of other forumites Kingfisher.
Have I passed ?

Wrong Ginger, your idea of debate is one where everyone agrees with a Gentlemans tip of the cap,i have noticed over the years you get squeaky Bum syndrome when things get heated.Your views on the whip debate are based on what you have been told to believe by those who have created them so you are basically a nodding dog going with the flow, its not your nature to say ‘Whoa hold on a minute, this is not going to work’.I would have thought the amount of Carpet Grippers you’ve laid in your time would have toughend you up a bit! I on the other hand am having to listen to the constant sound of those who know whats good for the game telling me a horse wont find any extra for a crack or 10 of the whip,i know it will and have seen as much in the past 30yrs of studying Horseracing,
The Minstrel
proves that when winning The Derby and
Ballabrigs
winning The National. Supporting these changes only adds fuel to those who want to see an end to Horseracing in this country, they will be telling us next that a 2yo horse is too young to be racing, then a 12yo is too old! Remember when Humans could think for themselves?

The implementation of the whip rules was a knee jerk reaction to a sensationalist feeding frenzy in the immediate aftermath of the Grand National. It was not the result of a long and sustained campaign by the likes of Animal Aid. The reality is that groups of that ilk wield very little influence beyond anarchist bookfairs and vegetarian cafes.
The only "successful" campaign has been that to end fox hunting and that only came about because it had the support of the general public. The end product was the slaughter of a fluffy animal whereas the end product of horse racing is to see which horse finishes ahead of the other. Besides, horse racing spins a considerable amount of money around the economy which fox-hunting simply didn’t do.
Horse racing is safe.
Now as for you measuring a man’s masculinity by how much he enjoys watching animals getting hit with a stick, I think a horse racing forum can only help you so far with that problem.
By the way, the ride Lester Piggot gave The Minstrel reminded me of something from the J P Magnier textbook

Like you, I believe that the new whip regulations are a totally unnecessary knee-jerk reaction to a problem that doesn’t exist. They offer a meagre sop to racing’s enemies which will only strengthen their resolve to do more damage to our sport.
We are in pretty much total agreement.
However, your treatment of, and insults to, those who disagree with us is offensive and shameful. Hopefully at some point in your life you will learn that actually listening to those who have opposing views (without insulting them) is both challenging and rewarding.
Mike
