Flash – i’m not sure if you are aware but Aces Four wont be going for the King George…..
December 18, 2007 at 11:33 #131014LGR,
You’re off your head.. Taranis may stay on to claim third but won’t see which way the first two went..

December 18, 2007 at 12:29 #131022Surely these are simply races to watch rather than bet on? Its funny how we (and ive suffered from this) feel obliged to get involved when its a big race
My one bet would be MWDS at kempton. I think the track will be perfect for him and the quick fences will suit his economical and efficient jumping. Might just cause an upset…if Kauto is not at his very best
December 18, 2007 at 13:22 #131028Anyone think a straight bet on Denman for the GC is a better bet?
Hi FoF
In my opinion Kauto Star will win the GC (easily) so your KG/Lex double is the right bet.

KalidorDecember 18, 2007 at 15:08 #131046I listened intently to Matt Chapman’s telephone interview with Clive Smith this morning.
The main topic of conversation surrounded the pronunciation of Kauto Star. Smith assured Matt Chapman that those who pronounced it Kayto were wrong! wrong! wrong! to do so and that Kaw – toe was the correct and only way. Smith had a pop at Clare Balding among others – who always calls the horse Kayto – especially as she has an English degree from Cambridge University and should know better. Chapman seemed pleased to hear Smith’s confirmation and urged all racing presenters from every channel to take heed and start pronouncing the horse’s name properly.
Smith also added that he thinks Kauto Star will take all the beating on Boxing Day and that his horse is better than he was last season.

December 18, 2007 at 15:26 #131048Well, I think you should have Denman for the lexus and Kauto for the Gold Cup

According to a recent poster on here (sorry can’t remember who it was) she would need a degree in Norwegian to pronounce it correctly.
Kaw-toe did seem to be the consensus anglicized pronunciation

Tony get a grip will you? Got enough worries without you telling me to have another bet
December 18, 2007 at 18:50 #131091With regards to Reet saying 6/1 the forecast Kauto and ED I would take that if I wasn’t already too heavily committed. Seems a fair bet to me.
With regards to Himself saying Mr. Smith said Kauto is better than last year.
Many would argue and say he may have gone back after ED got much closer this season than he ever has before.
However I wasn’t happy with the way he was ridden that day as I have said before. Not so much the Jockeys fault I suppose it was just the way the race panned out.
I am pretty sure Kauto will be there or there abouts in the King George but not produced until between 3 out and 2 out.
I may be putting my neck on the line here and my head up to be shot at but I don’t expect Kauto just to win.
What I really think is that he is probably about 7lbs better a horse than he was last year.
I don’t think we have seen anything near what he is truly capable of and on King George day he will absolutely annihilate them and be 5/4 fav for the Gold Cup within hours……..If I am wrong I will buy every member on here a double whiskey…………soon as you arrive in Bangkok.

December 18, 2007 at 19:02 #131097I don’t think Kauto Star is a worse horse this year than last. If you look at Exotic Dancer with the exception of his reappearance run he has improved with just about every run. He was awesome at Aintree back end of last season and ran exceptionally well at Haydock this season behind Kauto. There is every chance that Exotic Dancer is right at his peak now so to question Kauto’s form for winning a length or so I think is a bit harsh.
I don’t see any evidence as yet that Kauto has improved from last season to this but I don’t see any that he’s regressed either.
6/1 the forecast is tempting as the big two are well clear on form but I’ve just got a funny feeling that something is going to throw a spanner in their works. Horses are more vulnerable when taken out of their comfort zone and I’m not convinced that either of the two are particularly happy going right handed.
underscore I didn’t realise Aces Four wasn’t going for the King George, thanks for that.
December 19, 2007 at 01:33 #13114913/8 about the pair didn’t really tickle my fancy in the end, so I put Catch Me in with them at the last second at 5/1…makes it all a little more interesting, and that bit more lucrative.

I would broadly agree with everything you say about Exotic Dancer, about the only thing we differ on is their relative merits around Kempton.
While Kauto Star has shown himself versatile at most trips he has, imo, shown himself most vulnerable when faced with a proper test of stamina, whereas ED has excelled in such conditions.
That, and the likelihood of ground no worse than good on Boxing Day, leads me to believe that KS will prove comfortably his superior again, but only in these particular circumstances.December 19, 2007 at 08:46 #13116313/8 about the pair didn’t really tickle my fancy in the end, so I put Catch Me in with them at the last second at 5/1…makes it all a little more interesting, and that bit more lucrative.
Seems to me Catch Me is being touted about by someone for the Champion Hurdle.
Apparently there’s a 70/30% chance he wont run in it this time round.
Must think the bookies head zips up the back.
