Thanks Steve and good luck with Hawksmoor today, I have her with Promising Run for the forecast but I’ve put my win bet on Promising Run at 5/1. I was there when she won on the July Course same day as Bathos, here she is:-
Promising Run before winning her Maiden Cl.4 Newmarket (July Course) 28th August
Would represent better value and is improving, ran green both races.
Just noticed that Sixth Sense is 20/1 for the Royal Lodge but I’m going to be brave and stick with him as he is so gorgeous looking…LOL no rythme or reason to that one Steve.
Have to stick with Besharah in the Cheveley Park to get the better of Lumiere once more, Haggas has the magic touch on the Rowley Mile and I’m hoping to see him standing close to the winning post to cheer her home. I believe Illuminate is her biggest danger..I’ll be cheering Ajaya on for you in the Middle Park (to place of course
)..Looking forward to Saturday..JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 25, 2015 at 12:40 #1208446I am actually against Hawksmoor today Jac. I know she is highly regarded but I am a bit concerned about her odds and the stable’s lack of winners. It’s generally been a lean spell for Hugo Palmer of late and you always worry about one finding its form at this time of the year.
I actually had a bad feeling about John Gosden’s Linguistic at short odds yesterday but my post about the 2yo races got lost because my Chromebook seems to have keyboard shortcut combinations that wipe the post completely.
Tasleet ran well for Haggas yesterday but War Department stank the place out completely from a mark of 90 in the Nursery, so it’s hard to know how Ajaya will perform. It has been a while since I saw a horse make such a promising start as War Department (rated over 100 by Timeform) and then run as badly the next three times. His Timeform rating looks about two stones too high in retrospect.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 25, 2015 at 15:21 #1208457Another winner with Promising Run Jac and it pays to stick with stables in form. The punters didn’t see it that way and Hawksmoor went off a silly price. People must be seeing something with her that I am not. She scrambled home last time and I thought she was an accident waiting to happen at 11/8 today.
It proved the right call to stay away from Charlie Hills’ promising looking Doubly Motivated. The stable is only about 7% over the past two weeks and I am not the biggest fan of the stable in general. He has obviously targeted this Rockfel stakes and has won it with Just The Judge in the past, but his horse was almost the first one beaten today and looked sorely out of her depth.
Promising Run was the pick of the paddock for me today, she is a well made filly with ample scope and it will be all about Godolphin taking these promising types at two years and bringing them back in at three to be competitive in the Classics. This has been a weakness in their operation for some time now.
Well done and hope you had a few quid on. Today was one of those no bet days for me but I wish I had heard what John Gosden had to say about Journey before the race today. He said that she has been a horse who has not enjoyed the whole training and racing regime and that she is reckless in her races. He elaborated that she has just started coming to herself recently and is now more relaxed, allowing her to stay better than previously. She is enjoying herself now and perhaps she is worth keeping in mind now that she is behaving herself. The stable had another winner from one of my old pals Solar Magic, so it all looks well for Shalaa, who I hope may yet be considered for the Guineas to bring some more class to the race.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 25, 2015 at 16:34 #1208465The fact they are taking Besharah on again instead of running in the other race speaks volumes. The drift last time also told a story and I think we’ll see a much improved run from Lumiere this time…….hopefully.

September 25, 2015 at 16:52 #1208468good call today steve regarding Hawksmoor.
Good race tomorrow (cheveley park) i will probably be with Besharah, after my day today you Lumiere fans must be over the moon,i have not tipped her up.
September 25, 2015 at 17:41 #1208469It’s going well Steve…Promising Run made a big step today and she did it in style.
You did well to steer away from Hawksmoor, nothing bar the Stoute filly really got into that race and this is typical of Godolphin to hold onto a good one and produce it close to the end of the season, she’s still improving..more to come.
Can’t wait to see Besharah v Lumiere tomorrow, I will be staying with her as I think she still has the beating of the pretty grey (sorry Nathan
) and I’m sticking my neck out and going with Sixth Sense in the Royal Lodge for a turn up..Yes Steve John Gosden is always bigging his horses up after they have done the business, hence the 4/1 I guess. Still remember his ‘work in progress’ quote regarding Shalaa before he powered home and then Mick Fitzgerald almost letting slip that Gosden had told him whilst walking the course that Shalaa was the best….ooops
he then quickly changed it into best looking horse when I think he wanted to say best he had trained for a long while.Really hope you’re right about Shalaa having a crack at the 2000 Guineas as I took 20/1 on him a little while back. Maybe after tomorrows race he may give us all a little cluelet.
Good luck tomorrow and Nathan I’ll get a nice picture of Lumiere for you if I can …Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 26, 2015 at 10:29 #1208600Well done Trip with Bathos and Promising Run
Steve a big day day for 2yo races royal lodge and Beresford stakes tomorrow big day for my UNICORN not only the 2nd he beat runs in maiden but also in big race later as well.

I was impressed with Foundation today Darren and am looking forward to seeing Unicorn again.
Shalaa made it today but not as cosily as the betting suggested. Frankie said he lost momentum in the dip and that, combined with the way Buratino was getting back at him in the closing stages suggests that Shalaa will not head to the 2000 Guineas next season.
Ajaya ran well for a long way but faded late on, passed by a 25/1 shot for third

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 26, 2015 at 20:15 #1208676Somewhat surprised to see Coolmore out again tomorrow and at 7f again. She has been beaten twice at odds-on in maiden company and looked to me as if a mile was the least she needed this year. Up into a group 3 here I find it hard to see any value in her at 4/1.
Bizarrely, Timeform give her a blurb that states “Should continue to give a good account”, I don’t normally consider a horse beaten at odds-on twice to be doing much that is to be labelled as “good” but hey ho.
Ryan Moore is on stable companion How High The Moon, so one would assume she is the first string and she is readily preferred by me at 5/2 to Coolmore at 4/1. She’s a May foal and I believe she will get revenge on the other O’Brien filly, Kind Of Magic, this time around.
I have enthusiasm for How High The Moon long term and will hope she can land this to get back on track.
In the Beresford, won by 3yo flop Ol’ Man River last year, Ryan Moore is on Beacon Rock and not as perhaps anticipated, Unicorn. It looks a tougher race to call so I’ll just watch and nap How High The Moon at 5/2
Earlier, Pogues fans can back newcomer Bottleofsmoke but unlike the song, it seems he won’t be “Twenty F***ing Five To One”
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 26, 2015 at 21:17 #1208678That race looks a bit strange. Jim Bolger has 3 and Kevin Manning is on one who hasn’t really shown anything to suggest she is good enough. From what it looks his 3rd string horse, another Godolphin recruit, is the one who actually has a piece of form worthy of note. Mrs King be her name and her last run was 78 days ago over 7f on good ground, finishing ahead of recent group 3 winner Johannes Vermeer.
This race is looking very avoidable but I was surprised to see 25/1 for her, I wonder how much lower that would be if Manning was down to ride.
September 26, 2015 at 22:11 #1208689The fact they are taking Besharah on again instead of running in the other race speaks volumes. The drift last time also told a story and I think we’ll see a much improved run from Lumiere this time…….hopefully.

I had no hesitation about backing Lumiere today because I felt that she didn’t quite fire at York on the softish ground. Getting her revenge on Besharah always looked highly likely to me. She has a cracking long stride and once she learns to settle, she’ll be a formidable force.
September 27, 2015 at 13:58 #1208756Well done Nathan, as promised albeit a little late as my camera decided to go flat (but not broken..phew..)
Here is Lumiere in the parade ring yesterday looking fantastic
…
and after the race telling Emma Spencer how she did it…

Lots to look forward too
Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 27, 2015 at 14:04 #1208757A million miles off it with How High The Moon who was confidently ridden in the rear but found zero for pressure. That was a puzzlingly poor effort and she looked devoid of toe today
What can you say about Coolmore? Beaten at odds on in two maidens then is well backed and wins a group 3.
She was under pressure from a long way out today, her odds in running must have been huge but she kept plugging on and came with a withering run. I have always said that she looked like a mile would be better this year and she won’t always get away with being outpaced the way she did today. Certainly an Oaks filly in my opinion, rather than a Guineas one.
A real shocker from How High The Moon though, maybe she is like her sister Diamondsandrubies and needs mud and a distance of ground.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 27, 2015 at 14:13 #1208758yep i stood for How High is the moon very disappointing. Coolmore, prices range between 12s-20s for oaks/1000

Steve a big day day for 2yo races royal lodge and Beresford stakes tomorrow big day for my UNICORN not only the 2nd he beat runs in maiden but also in big race later as well.
Thanks Darren I seem to get more luck in the week than at the weekends at the moment, totally blank day at Newmarket yesterday but enjoyed seeing Shalaa and Lumiere win and the quality of the fields, it was just great to be there in the presence of so much talent.
This is a funny time of year when trainers are unwrapping the 2yo’s they have been holding back, Gosden seems to be holding all the aces at the moment. Gosden virtually confirmed that Shalaa would continue on the sprinting path next year Steve so no Guineas for him, bit of a worrying moment when Shalaa went into the dip yesterday he became unbalanced and his legs were all over the place but he recovered in brilliant style to win the race from Buratino very disappointing run from Ajaya though

Ajaya beat Steady Pace by more than six lengths in the Gimcrack but has finished two lengths behind the same horse this time. That can’t have been his form and it makes you frustrated when you have an each-way penalty kick and the striker hoofs it 10ft over the bar.
Today, the Beresford at the Curragh was a classic ding dong where there was a blanket finish and they all looked pretty devoid of pace. I doubt Gosden watched that and worried about the Racing Post Trophy for Foundation, with the winner today, Post Douglas, seeming to have his limitations exposed earlier in the season. Unicorn was very poor indeed today and it was a day where the O’Briens were winning with the lesser expected in the big races.
Foundation is still the best I have seen at a mile this year.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 27, 2015 at 19:54 #1208783Lovely photos Jac.
I think Johnston said Lumiere had gone in her coat although I could of heard wrong.
If a horse has gone in their coat, how would this effect her performance, I’d take it as a negative comment so does it mean she ran even better considering this…..???ps I’ve stolen one of your photos of Lumiere, I want to put it on facebook if you don’t mind?
I’ll credit it as yours of course.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
