GalvinApril 14, 2023 at 19:54 #1643633Wonderful write-up, Bobby; huge amount of work in it. Well done, and thank you. Very much with you on Hill Sixteen, and I’m amazed that with Lucinda’s blazing form at this meeting Corach Rambler can be backed at 10/1 – a classy blot on the handicap with a jock who knows exactly what makes him tick. Yes, sticking his head in the air on the run in last time is a concern as he thought he’d done more than enough. But a sign too that he had a fair old bit in hand. Cloudy Glen and Mister Coffey would be my other big outsiders. Smashing race in prospect. May they all come home safe. Good luck all
Joe
April 14, 2023 at 20:07 #1643634Thanks Joe, yeah, fingers crossed for Hill Sixteen, I was happy to see a bit of rain, and topped up to 140’s. I know it dries out quick, but thought it worth a wee boost. Love old Cloudy Glen, good luck with him

Don't mess with mister in between.April 15, 2023 at 09:39 #1643702You can just tell the bookie execs have had this earmarked as a huge earner this year- 6 places with most for a 40 runner race….get more in plenty of Supremes lol.

Capodanno 22/1
Roi Mage 50/1

April 15, 2023 at 11:00 #1643726CAREFULLY SELECTED gets my each way vote.
Willie Mullins has secured the services of the youngster who rode two great winners at Cheltenham.
The lad even took it upon himself to ride at Ballinrobe last night when most jockeys where tucked up in bed with a cup of cocoa. Two more winners there as well.
The shameless bookies will be slashing the price of most horses to boost their margins to an intolerable level before the off but just might push this one out.April 15, 2023 at 11:08 #1643731Thanks for the writeup VtC, I always enjoy reading that. I’ve added the two selections from my original list and hope that the ground has dried up enough for both. I’ve also added Capodanno: I think he jumps a bit big and careful for this but I really like him and nearly put him in my TTF this year. Has class and the assistance of a brilliant jockey. Ew 6 places all.

Fury Road

Recite a Prayer
Cape GentlemanApril 15, 2023 at 11:40 #1643745Not sure if it’s me, but I can make a case out for most of the field! Maybe reflected how open it is with less rank outsiders this year.
Saying that, the current prices as I type look grim throughout the whole meeting!
Diol Ker and Our Power in the big one.

VanillierApril 15, 2023 at 11:56 #1643748A bit of fun.
Most of us in here have prob bet on 5 or 6 horses in today’s GN.
I guess we all have our favourites and poss an ‘old friend’ or two (from the 39).So, if u could name one horse you havent bet on (or likely to), which you think you might regret NOT punting on in today’s GN, which horse would that be?
Mine is Corach Rambler.
April 15, 2023 at 11:59 #1643749Had a go on the ITV sweepstake, totally free to enter the prize 50k. Just go to their website to enter I entered through Skybet.
They select a random horse, and if it wins you then enter a draw of those who had the same horse.
My horse is SAM BROWN

Don't mess with mister in between.April 15, 2023 at 12:56 #1643762Delta Work ran below form in this last year – albeit in 3rd – and I thought it may be because the x-country left a mark. However, having reviewed the race am surprised the results sections of form books don’t pick up on the amount of ground lost between the 4th and 8th fence. Made a mistake at the 4th. Squeezed and lost impetus at Beechers and very wide at Canal Turn. Going from in the leading quarter to the back quarter in four fences. Without which he’d have been quite a bit closer to the first two home, if not exactly running to the X-Country form. He’s my biggest bet here.
Corach Rambler is my second biggest bet. He is very well handicapped on the Ultima form and that’s even without the tendency to idle. Better than the winning distance indicates. Obviously that tendency is a temperament flaw which some day will catch him out, but it also makes it difficult for the handicapper to get a hold of just how good he is. The one negative is it makes judgement of pace a little more difficult, coming from the back as he invariably does.
My third main bet and the one who’d win me the most money is Galvin. As VTC has suggested, has been crying out for this trip for a while now… True, these weights and distance beaten mean he has 10 lbs to make up on x-country conqueror Delta Work. But that was his first try at x-country and has a record to suggest a further step up can only bring about more improvement. Had Delta Work not been in that race Galvin would be coming here a 26 lengths winner. For sure his chance is less than the two above, but he’s 29/1.

Speaking of those 26 lengths… Francky Du Berlais may well have been 3rd that day at level weights had he finished. Refused at the last and obviously that’s a temperament worry. But 23 lbs for around 26 lengths isn’t that bad a turn around in an extreme stamina test… And he’s 199/1
Remember who tipped Aurora’s Encore @ 119/1.
Having tipped two Elliott horses already, another one I’ve done is his enth string Fury Road. Got closer to Galopin Des Champs (at level weights too) than most have this year. True it was a slower run race so that may be the reason why, but the form would give him a chance and he’s 74/1. Yes he may not stay but is one to look after himself (sometimes too much) and looking after himself may help him stay. Is inconsistent but that inconsistency makes it easier to look past his poor run last time in the Ryanair. Probably needs further than 2 1/2 miles in top class company nowadays anyway.
Those are my five main win bets.
Have also put place only saver bets on Delta Work, Galvin and Corach Rambler; with a small lay bet on Aint That A Shame.
