8 or 9-1 on the day probably. Bookies will want your money ;o)
March 29, 2023 at 17:02 #1641812Of my three bets, I was happiest with my 40/1 on Lord Lariat, but he obviously isn’t running now. Thankfully he was under nrnb, and I’ve put that cash the way of The Shunter
The other horse that I think is too big is Gin On Lime at 100/1, and I’m adding him too at the slightly less 66/1 with nrnb attached
Gin On Lime 66/1 non runner no bet
Coko Beach 50/1 non runner no bet
The Shunter 50/1 non runner no bet
The Big Dog 33/1 ew 5plcsThe Shunter and The Big Dog are the bigger bets of that quartet right now.
March 29, 2023 at 21:38 #1641831If it came up soft (unlikely for mid April I guess) it will be interesting to see which way Corach Rambler’s price will go. Will it drift because there’s a belief he is better on decent ground or contract because of his low weight?
He is the Graded horse in the field running off a low weight. I personally don’t believe a horse like Mr Incredible would have won that Ultima (running off a similar weight in the National) and Corach Rambler beat the right horses in that race. Brassil had laid that one out for Cheltenham and the next three were coming off victories.
Try as I might, I cannot crab that form.
The fly in the ointment is Capodanno. History suggests that with a solitary run this season, he can’t possibly win but has Emmett Mullins shown the way for using the Grand National as a stepping stone to the Gold Cup? Do they even think a Gold Cup tilt is worthwhile with Galopin doing what he is doing? Perhaps he will end up going for the Bowl instead.
We shall see.
March 30, 2023 at 14:05 #1641862I’ll likely be sticking with the 4 i have i think…
Corach Rambler 20-1 ew:
Won the Ultima twice. 10lb well in. Trainer and jockey won race before. Obvious chance on National course debut.Delta Work 20-1 ew 5 places:
Won at Cheltenham, 3rd last year and weighted ok. A bold show likely, especially if he can iron out the early fence stickiness of last year.Le Milos 20-1 ew 5 places:
Won the Coral Gold Cup where he beat Corach Rambler who has franked the form since. Every chance if he gets the trip as Corach only has a 7lb pull for a 9 length beating from that race.Mr Incredible 14-1 ew 5 places:
Willie Mullins reckons he’s better than his mark and Patrick Mullins rates him the stable’s best chance for glory. And seemed to have ironed out his quirks the last twice. So has to be respected.March 30, 2023 at 17:16 #1641876Some of the runners are doubly engaged in the Irish National, ran five days earlier.

20 Velvet ElvisNot sure if that rule still exist where you can’t run 7 days before the race, but if some of these are towards the business end of the race (Irish National), then can’t see them lining up at Aintree.
Those that miss the Irish, then the trainer must think they stand a chance at Aintree.
Also another six have entries in the Topham. Definitely can’t see them taking part.

Do you think the rest of us are doughnuts?
March 31, 2023 at 08:16 #1641911I’ve gone for..
Longhouse poet. 890/1
Chris’s dream 2000 pound returned because it was withdrawn on a day with a Y in it. Put that bet on with paddy’s reward club. Basically a secret club nobody else has access to!
Le Milos. I actually have this in a 28 horse acca with every winner from the 2018 festival.
Quick wave. Denise Coates has given me a special offer of donating her entire personal fortune if the horse finishes in the first 39 runners.
Hopefully I’ll be able to cash something out in running to lock in a small profit.
Get in.

Corach Rambler has been a pick, and not just by me, from earlier in the season.March 31, 2023 at 11:16 #1641919To those concerned about Corach and the running style – of course Derek Fox brought One for Arthur from mid-division (and even further back) to win six years ago.
Wilts – you forgot about Tiger Roll at 4/1 F in 2019. Not even I could have missed that winner!
I know about the weight etc, but I keep returning to Any Second Now. Maybe it’s because I want to recoup my losses from last year!

I backed Corach Rambler last summer at 25/1, after his first Ultima win

March 31, 2023 at 18:14 #1641951I don’t doubt some people got on at bigger prices.
But ol Mike is the resident porky teller when it comes to backing horses at ludicrously fancy prices time and time again.
I think he thinks the rest of us came down in the last shower!
March 31, 2023 at 18:24 #1641952“resident porky teller” – nope. “backing horses at ludicrously fancy prices time and time again” – if I can get a bigger price antepost then all well and good :o)
March 31, 2023 at 22:10 #1641976Can I just point out that I know Mike from another forum and he did indeed back Corach Rambler as soon as the weights came out.
April 1, 2023 at 03:47 #1642029With horses getting in off minimum weight this year, it will be be hard for the 163+ horses to give all those pounds away and win.
