Might as well crack on, and can only hope that this time next year, this has all passed.
I’ll stand by my original fancy for this years race, Any Second Now. He’s always looked like a National horse, and I’ve seen nothing this year to put me off. Plenty of time to shave a few pounds off.
He’s not the only JP horse to appeal. I think Easysland could be very good indeed, but a big drawback with him is that he’ll only be a 7yo, and he’ll have plenty of options elsewhere, but no such worries for Kimberlite Candy, who’s whole season will surely be geared around this.
Ok Corral would have a serious chance if he could turn up here in the same mood as at Doncaster, while although there are jumping issues with No Comment, I feel that if they could actually get him in here, he’d have a chance. There’s a big race in him.
Stablemate to No Comment, Deise Aba, runs in the Hemmings silks, and that’s enough to make a safe assumption that this will be the target next year. Travelled really well in The Kim Muir, and did enough to suggest that this trip would suit.
In front of him in The Kim Muir was the very promising Plan Of Attack, and as his owner likes a runner in the race, then he’ll surely be a viable contender here, as will last weeks Kim Muir winner, Milan Native.
Stablemate to Milan Native, Ravenshill, who also won at Cheltenham last week is a very obvious shout, but from the same yard, I’d be very interested in Galvin going up in trip, and I’d say he’s a dark one, for all he got hit with a rise of a few pounds for his Cheltenham exertions.
I still think that Burrows Saint looks like being Willie Mullins big hope, and crucially, he’ll not have the dreaded 7yo stat to overcome.
Another potential Irish challenger could be Discorama, but I think connections will always have Cheltenham as his #1 priority. I’d like them to consider it though.
The Conditional and Kildisart, who both finished ahead of Discorama last week, would be very obvious ones as well.
Before his season ended through injury, I thought that the Novice Dashel Drasher had a big Handicap in him, and it would be nice to see him come back in one piece, and come into the picture for this. The same sentiment could apply to Sam Spinner. Another of this seasons novices who could be interesting is Reserve Tank. He’s been a big disappointment this term, but he looked very good this time last year, and no reason why he can’t bounce back, particularly with him being on a better mark now, and the real possibility of better ground in April.
That’s enough for now.

The Storyteller
would interest me at thus stage.March 18, 2020 at 00:05 #1486431Nothing else for it Grass.
Real soft spot for The Storyteller, and I’d no be surprised if they consider this again for him. I wouldn’t be surprised if they start off with a few low key runs in Chases to get that mark down…….if they can get away with it.
March 20, 2020 at 00:16 #1486516Sam Sinners jumping is terrible if I remember right. Even with the fences being easier now he has his own way of getting from a to b.
April 15, 2020 at 14:47 #1487343Hi gang,
Just wandering, does anybody know what the plans are for PRESENTING PERCY,he’s had a couple of goes at the GOLD CUP but been very disappointing……..think he could be campaigned for a tilt at the GN,33/1 with various bookies, think this could be right up his street……..but he would need a big improvement……….any views……
April 26, 2020 at 09:31 #1487611Surely 2021 is the year we will finally see Native River in the GN ….I’ll be playing with everything crossed …presenting percy is a fair shout
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
May 14, 2020 at 18:32 #1488260Walk In The Mill automatically gets the nod with a course record like that. The season will be geared towards April, so I don’t need him to set the word alight for me to back him in the run up.
Kimberlite Candy will never have a better chance than the one gone, but I’m definitely keeping a close eye on him.
Lil Rockerfeller is slowly becoming one of my favourite ever horses and I’ve long had this in the back of my mind for him despite his less than convincing jumping. I’d love to see him go.
Lord Du Mesnil was a bit of a revelation last season and his run at Cheltenham was extremely gutsy considering the season he’d had until then.
I’ll be very interested to see what they do with Copperhead. Was quickly chalked up as a staying handicapper, but could easily end up going down the graded route, especially if stablemate Native River is being aimed at the bigger handicaps instead. I’d prefer they waited another year or two myself.
May 14, 2020 at 19:05 #1488261Will wait and see what developes over the next jump season, but this year’s virtual winner Potters Corner was a possibility in the real thing by my books, and a similar routine might get him there again. Just one small niggle was the length of time between his last run and the day the National should have ran.

You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.August 5, 2020 at 14:06 #1496353The switch to Gordon Elliot really had me thinking about Presenting Percy here, but then I looked at his mark, and it might just be a lot of work to get him nicely weighted. Even his price of 40-1 wouldn’t tempt me, but at the same price, his stablemate Milan Native is more appealing.
I liked Traffic Fluide and Yala Enji last season, and I would consider them again, especially as they are both 50-1 right now.
My other big fancy last season was One For Arthur, and I haven’t totally given up on him. I wonder if he is sound, as the current price of 66-1 looks awfully big. I wish I could get nrnb on that, but Skybet haven’t quoted.
Skybet do have Potters Corner listed though, and even though I could get 40-1, I took the 33-1 with them as they are nrnb. He is my first bet.
August 5, 2020 at 17:00 #1496360Who knows what Elliot will do with Percy?
I mentioned him as a possible for Stayers Hurdle, but probably one to wait and see where he goes first time out.
Agree he’s bit high in the weights for this right now.
August 7, 2020 at 18:35 #1496508I’ll resist for now, but surely Magic of Light at 40-1 ew with 5 places is a very tempting bet.
October 7, 2020 at 00:35 #1505187Milan Native gets his season underway at Galway this afternoon, and he’s a horse I think could be worth following this year.
Not interested in betting him today, but he must be in with a chance of lining up here.
October 9, 2020 at 00:34 #1505395He was made fight for that, just hanging on, but no real shame in just defying Discorama.
I was happy enough with him, and he should land a decent pot this year. Whether I’ll bet him for Aintree, I’m not sure, but certainly not discouraged.
October 14, 2020 at 07:19 #1506008I’ve gone in at 40s on Milan Native. Thought the price was appealing.
October 14, 2020 at 12:02 #1506025You getting a wee touch of spring fever already Mike?
(saw your Supreme bet) or just free bets to use.
October 14, 2020 at 13:00 #1506028Nope not free bets so far. So ‘spring fever’ it is then
October 14, 2020 at 23:33 #1506086Milan Native still very much my second choice. I’ll probably go with him soon, as my main hope, Any Second Now, is friendless on the exchange’s, which is a bit of a worry.
I’m still waiting on Galvin getting introduced to the market, but I think that shouldn’t be too far off now, and he’s the other one I’ll play early.
