Greenasgrass – maybe a little on the harsh side but it can’t be denied that Tony Martin always appears to be up to something.
March 15, 2019 at 19:03 #1402370Absolutely buzzing, great performance, loved his profile coming into the race. I smashed him in so many Bets and he pulled it off! Can’t wait for Cheltenham 2020 already
March 15, 2019 at 19:31 #1402379Well done thewexfordman – I wouldn’t have seen that as a potential Gold Cup winner – credit to you. Who else had the winner?
March 15, 2019 at 19:37 #1402383Ah, just saw yours atthepost – well done!
March 15, 2019 at 19:43 #1402385Winner was very well bred [wish I’d looked at that earlier]. Can’t warm to him, though. Is it the name perhaps? I like good horses to have good names. Not a race that I’ll want to rewatch though, sadly.
March 15, 2019 at 20:44 #1402393Presenting Percy found to be lame after the race. That will explain it then. Lives to fight another day.

I know he has always been better with his speed horses but Trabolgan, Bobs Worth, Long Run, Burton Port, Hadrians Approach etc were a strong bunch of stayers. There are plenty of valuable staying handicaps throughout the season without a runner from Seven Bs
March 15, 2019 at 22:23 #1402406I know it’s easy in hindsight, but to be fair, on what evidence was Presenting Percy favourite for this race? Winning the RSA? A novice race. In a gold cup field which contained last year’s gold cup winner, the winner of the last two Betfair Chases, the last 3 winners of the king George, the current Irish gold cup holder, the current Lexus chase holder, the current Welsh national holder and the winner of the Thyestes.
This was one seriously good field and yet one of the horses who hasn’t proved it at the top level went off favourite against all those proven performers.
March 15, 2019 at 22:25 #1402407…indeed, the triumph of hype and hope over form and facts
March 15, 2019 at 23:08 #1402418You say that but the horse that won the gold cup was well behind presenting percy in last years RSA
The form was there
The main issue has got to be the prep, for all the talk from the Irish that pat Kelly is some sort of miracle worker not running percy over fences at all this season put pay to any chance he had
They will use the ground as an excuse but all the other Irish horses managed to get runs in
Wouldn’t be very happy if I was the owner of the horse
March 15, 2019 at 23:13 #1402419Hopefully they train elegant escape purely with the national in mind for 2020
Hes simply too slow to keep up at the key point in the race against top class 3 mile chasers
March 15, 2019 at 23:22 #1402421Finalfurlong Al Boum photo fell 2 out when still in contention in last year’s RSA.
But prior to the race the form wasn’t there to justify favouritism in such a high quality field, especially with a terrible preparation. Even on his hurdles run at gowran he struggled to beat killulagh Vic who hardly did much for the form in the coral cup, limini was just in behind PP but was beaten out of sight in the mares, while bapaume ran a reasonable race to come 4th in the stayers.
March 15, 2019 at 23:39 #1402424I’m well aware he fell
he looked well beaten when he did, was being niggled along by ruby and had been for some time, while percy and monalee were pulling away from him
And saying he struggled to win that hurdles race is something I disagree with too, he cruised through the race and won easily despite it not being a large winning distance
According to the vet presenting percy was found to be lame after the race anyway, maybe that explains his poor showing, though he never got into a jumping rhythm at any point
Hopefully we see him a few more times this season so we can get a true gage of the horses ability
Because if that was the best presenting percy today the hype was well and truly unjustified
I’d have made him third fav myself, behind clan des obeaux (the form horse) and native river (the reliable reigning champ)
Wasnt a big betting race for me anyway as it looked a complete minefield, I had a few pennies on invitation only and anibale fly straight win just for a bit of interest at big prices
Such a shame for the connections to lose a second horse in a few days
March 15, 2019 at 23:39 #1402425The team dont want to make excuses however looking at colin tizzard form he is 48 runs without a winner in the last 15 days. Its truly abysmal. Lostintranslation is the only horse who has ran any sort of a race this week.
3 big players in the gold cup all 3 unplaced.
The form of the yard could not be any worse.
This was the reason Native River got beat in 2017 gold cup due to stable form and this time it was even worse.
The legend is not to blame for that and he remains the greatest chaser of all time.
Sadly I will have to concede that he will only win 3 gold cups and not 4.
Still improving and promises to be even better next year and win grade 1 chases before returning to lift his rightful crown the gold cup king will be back.
March 15, 2019 at 23:43 #1402428It was also nice to see Bristol de mai prove he isn’t just a haydock horse
March 16, 2019 at 08:38 #1402455What a great day. Have a good story for yis. I backed Al Boum Photo and Bellshill a few weeks ago; Al Boum with Bet365 and I got 14/1 e/w. Yesterday morning he was trading at 19s in the each way market in the exchanges. Bet365 let me cash in my Bet so I cashed it in and backed him each way on the exchanges. I also have small bets on him at 24s and 22s from a few weeks back. Anyway, the horse wins and I’m chuffed; check my balance on Betfair and I’m delighted with my winnings. I then just happen to open Bet365 to discover I didn’t cash out of the other bet properly.
Apperantly you have to press the button twice to confirm. What a lovely bit of luck. Some day on the Guinness yesterday; have a head like Hollyhead today
March 16, 2019 at 10:15 #1402472Nice one, Vautour! Depends on your luck on the day. My brother stayed here to watch the racing with me and backed the 50/1 winner of the mare’s novice with Betfair. When he checked back he found he’d done the same as you and not confirmed. Only consolation is he just bets at £1 EW
