    Yeah that must be it potato; but Elegant Escape is coming on. He beat Yala Enki 4l getting 3lb in the Welsh National and today has beaten him by about the same off levels. Be hacking up next year.

    Well done everyone on Al Boum Photo. I didn’t trust his jumping enough to back him so good on anyone who thought he could do it. :good:

    As for the favourite is it possible he’s not as good as we thought or did he miss his last run for reasons we aren’t being told?

    Think the owner said something about him being difficult to keep right. And on the Opening Show Kevin Blake seemed to imply that they were pushed to get him ready. If it was lack of race fitness he should have travelled better so maybe something bothering him.

    Might Bite looked like he bled again the way he stopped. I suspect Birchdale also bled

    Well done all winners.

    Hopefully this finally puts to bed the notion that Bristol De Mai is a Haydock heavy ground specialist.

    Presenting Percy and Kemboy colided at the first, favourite possibly tweeked a muscle. However, the trainer is a law unto himself; the will he won’t he run in various races throughout the season – highly suspicious. Did we hear he wasn’t right at those times? Was his “blood” wrong?

    Might Bite has always had his quirks. Loves front running or disputing it, but once passed doesn’t want to know and spits his dummy out… And added to that, doesn’t like the roar of a finish – idles extremely badly (I’d put ear plugs in). Almost gave the RSA away. When successful in the King George looked as though going to win it easily, but found little and only held on from Double Shuffle. Needs to lead, that’s way all the talk about how he was going to be ridden. Sad thing is whenever up against a horse able to get in front he’ll quit. Even when running otherwise a good race – able to race prominently throughout – in last year’s Gold Cup, take a look at the final strides. Once Native River got a fair lead imo Might Bite stopped quicker than just stamina/ability should.

    Might Bite just didn’t jump well enough to win from the front. Croco Bay showed for the third time this week the value of getting into a great jumping rhythm if you’re a front runner.

    Interesting to see Nico Dr Boinville say just now that they’re going to step him down in distance to two and a half miles.

    @Gingertipster

    IMO, Hendo’s stayers were trained better when Pauling et al were his assistants.

    They lack copper bottomed stamina, tenacity; he races one over 3 miles and then drops it back to 2 1/2 next time

    I think Hendo has always done worse with stayers, Mark. But last year’s strongly run Gold Cup (just as good as any in his career) – on a lot softer – shows Might Bite has enough stamina for today’s test. On the whole Hendo’s runners certainly don’t lack tenacity. If they did, he wouldn’t have such a good Cheltenham record.

    I wonder what anibale fly could have been and won in his career if he wasn’t trained by a messer

    I had a last-minute e/w saver on Anibale Fly; similar to last year, running on strongly at the ned. Perhaps lacks the tactical speed to stay closer to the pace. But puts the the last 2 GCs at around the same standard.

    Bit harsh wex. He’s trained the horse to run on and place in two Gold Cups and a Grand National. It got a good prep this year and arrived fit, sound and ran its race. Not sure any other trainer would have won either of those GCs or last year’s National with him.

    Shouldn’t be too hard on Might Bite, had a good season last season at the age of 9. As said before when I showed the stats when horses get to double figures of age its hard to beat the younger legs in the GC. Another young’un won today.
