I’ve my money down on 2 in this race. Just in time and Uradel.
Just in times last run screamed to me that he was being readied for this,he won but i think there was always an eye on this as he won just doing enough, some will point to him finishing behind vis a vis on better terms than this a few runs back but i think a big field suits just in time nicely and would be weary of getting involved in vis a vis until he proves he can handle a field like this and not bully his opposition. I think Martin Harley is arguably one of the best riders about in these staying handicaps particularly with these horses that need a bit of patience and King does pretty well in the race i’m hopeful of a big run.
Uradel is unexposed to my eye and after winning a competitive handicap at Galway under an inexperienced rider i said i’d keep him onside for any big handicap he got involved in, he’s a bigger price than Limini who i dont see reversing placings. Billy Lee is at least a 7 lb better rider than Aubrey Mc Mahon so they’re basically running of comparatively same marks and i expect Uradel to come off better again.
A few i’ve desserted are Whiskey sour who i think is a seriously talented individual and could be a Champion hurdle contender when he goes back over timber but the trip is a question for me and Kirby’s an odd jockey booking i feel, very good jockey but i’d think he might be a bit too busy for Whiskeys liking,Spencer or Soumillon would’ve been my idea of a perfect booking for him,Cliffs of dover looks nicely handicapped but Megan will find it tough in a race like this as she wouldn’t have the experience of most of the others.
Southern France looks like he’ll go off about 4/1 with the move this mornning which seems ridiculous to me, he’ll be too soft here i’m guessing and might look at place laying him.

Looking forward to a great race.

Has Uber Cool been pricewised? Price has come in. Had a better look at the race last night and realised I’d been fixated with the draw which didn’t seem to affect the race last year, and Uber Cool and Eye something or other came out top. Can’t ignore Cliffs of Dover either; pity about the jockey, though. I backed Meri Devi ages ago along with Coeur de Lion, but no idea why I backed the former  And I always have to back Scotland.

Moehat Merie Devie is a regular eyecatcher, travels a dream in a lot of her races, don’t think she’s the most genuine though and todays test likely not suit. CDL could be a good outside shout e/w.

I would argue she’s genuine alright Fran. She’s been racing NOV 17 and has raced 12 times….probably been raced too much and needs a break if you ask me, but she’s entered in the sales, so maybe they are just running her on without worrying too much.

She’s not got the pace for 2miles over hurdles, and as her Punchestown win shows shes plenty of ability. Softer ground would help her no end on the flat i believe, and she wont get that.

The first horse I backed here was Stratum. He oozes stamina and how could you not be impressed with his Newbury victory? I’d put a line through his Ebor run and he comes here fresh. I’m also another one here keen on the chances of Cleonte. He’s been put away after the Ascot victory and has Oisin Murphy on his back for the first time. Stars Over The Sea seemed overpriced at 28/1 to me. It seems that people just want to put a line through his win in the trial and therefore assume he can’t win off his current mark. I disagree, I feel he’s in the form of his life. Limini at 14/1 looks solid enough given her gutsy win last time out and could be anything on the flat over this trip. I think she’ll love the course. And lastly I’m on Here And Now at 25/1. I loved the way he went about things at York and will forgive his Chester run.

    Stratum 15/2
    Limini 14/1
    Cleonte 20/1
    Here And Now 25/1
    Stars Over The Sea 28/1

I put up Coeur de Lion earlier in the thread, and I’m happy that he has the form to
take a hand in this. I took him before the draw, and I think he’s been a bit unlucky
drawn out in the car park in 34. Not much I can do, I hope he can get a charmed run
through them, so I’m going to add Viz A Viz at 10/1. I reckon he
was bought with this in mind and his draw in 22 is alright . He’s only had the 2 runs
since arriving from France in February, but his gutsy win at Sandown and his easier
looking win over 2m at Kempton last time out suggested he is progressing nicely. He’s
up 8lbs but he could still be ahead of the handicapper, and it’s certainly no handicap
to have Silvestre de Sousa jocked up, he’s won this 3 times out of the past 5 years. He
    has a serious shout :good:

In just the 2nd fast ground Cesarewitch this century, quite a few of the fancied runners might not handle this, especially combined with the rolling waves of small undulations in the track just as the race is getting serious. Vis a Vis looks a pretty awkward mover to me even though he’s won on fast ground and I think he could struggle.

The value horse for me is Here And Now. He’s won on the ground, looks sure to get the trip, his trainer is in good form (and, of those with more than 2 runners at Newmarket in the past year, Beckett has the biggest win percentage at the track). Jockey Bentley is 2nd only to Donnacha O’Brien in win % here in the past year. The horse is one of just 8 in the field who’ve won at this class (or higher) in a UK Flat handicap.

His trainer said after his York win that he’d miss this as he didn’t like Newmarket; but he’s run just once here although Beckett is still expressing doubt. But total cost for a Cesarewitch entry these days is £12,500 – not insignificant if you believe your horse won’t act.

Betfair go 28/1 6 places and he can be backed at 22/1 for 8 places (Skybet).

    Good luck all.

Just added a little bit on Stargazer e/w at 100/1 (7 places). Seems overpriced on potential.

Well done Jack. A frustrating watch from Fran The Man who I though a furlong out had called it right. Hard luck.

    Well done winners.
A thoroughly enjoyable race even though i have to be content with a place, was thinking i was on a winner about a furlong out but Low Sun showed serious guts. Glad i stayed away from Cliffs of dover, what were they at?
Chelkar the one for the Irish equivalent tomorrow, ran a lovely race at Ascot after the guts of 2 years off the track before flopping at Galway when he lost a shoe and was coughing after the race, i was expecting him to run today but now we know Willie had this race well covered, it’ll be a big ask off near top weight but i think he could be a cup horse for next year, Colin Keane an eyecatching booking. B-)

That was a good call Fran, very unlucky for the win.

Well done Jack, it’s always nice to bag the winner of this puzzle, I hope you won a few pounds.

VtC, well done on third and fifth from your opening post, as well as most of the principles mentioned too.

Well done Jack, and all winner backers.

Southern France didn’t seem to settle in the wind early. :-(

Following the race Megan Nicholls reported that CLIFFS OF DOVER, unplaced, ran too free.
Megan should of told the truth and said I was trying to steal a 500 length lead…..
