My favourite flat race, but my record in it is deteriorating quickly, and therefore reluctant to have a go Ante-Post, but I know how that’ll end, and I’ll definitely be having a go.

Seems a bigger entry than usual, with 95 of them listed…..

    https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2018-10-13/708750

There’s whole wave of Willie Mullins runners in there, and there seems little point in playing his Ante-Post, but they all look like a case could be made for them, but for me, very much an “on the day” job for his, though Uradel, Lagostovegas, and Whiskey Sour are really of particular interest.

It’s another who could travel across The Irish Sea that I wanted in there, and I wasn’t disappointed. Sandymount Duke is a a very nice dual purpose type, and having bet him for some big chases in recent times, I would be very interested in him here. He’s screamed “Cesarewitch” horse to me for a while now.

Another who was screaming out this race as his target, was Cleonte, particularly his run at Newbury. He’s since won at Ascot, but crucially, he hasn’t been hammered for it, and is a very strong fancy.

Project Bluebook looked a strange runner here a couple of months back. He’s been mainly disappointing, and I’ve been on the wrong side of him a couple of times, but trainer likes this race, and I’d be willing to give him another chance, he’s certainly another I had in mind for this, after that visit to the track.

I thought that Its’afreebee was going places, but he didn’t completely fire here last time. Although he almost looked as if he didn’t get home that day, I’m willing to forgive him, and he might be worth another look, but I’d definitely like to see him again, and especially in a large field.

Midnight Wilde was very impressive last time, as well as here in May, and I think he looks a potential stayer, but he’s low enough right now, and not guaranteed to make it, but nontheless, an interesting type for the future if he don’t sneak in.

I’m willing to forgive Natural Scenery his run today, while in the same race, I think Speedo Boy, and Soldier In Action really advertised their claim for this, while I’m very hopeful that Saunter can advertise his own chance on Saturday at York.

Like those from the Mullins yard, I’ll hold fire with the others from the jumping yards, and finish off with two from north of the border.

Theglasgowwarrior has been ticking along nicely, and I’m sure this will be the plan, while I was at Haydock when Taxmeifyoucan showed proper stamina last year, and had him on my mind for this ever since.

Like The Cambridgeshire, so much can change, and weather could be crucial for this, as could the fortunes of many of these at York this week, and I’m undecided as to whether or not I’ll have an early play, but the early shortlist is……

    Cleonte
    Sandymount Duke
    Theglasgowwarrior

    Prices up

Took Here and Now @ 16/1

Was really impressive at York this week and must have a great chance if turning up based on that run. Stratum pulled the short straw by a short head.

Hopefully a few more firms will follow suit Botchy. I’m definitely betting Cleonte, and I’m pleasantly surprised with the 20’s, but might as well hold off and see if I can get the 25’s.

Always hard to read these situations Bobby, and looks ominous with him missing from 365’s list as well.

The only encouragement I can offer, and the most recent example I can think of, is that Euchen Glen was missing from several lists in the weeks leading up to this years John Smiths Cup.

    Good luck if he goes.

Bet365, Betfred, and Totesport go 5 Places now.

Like The Cambridgeshire, I’m happy to have a couple in this early doors.

There’s always the chance that Sandymount Duke will stay in Ireland for their equivalents, and he’s only made the journey across once before, while I was a wee bit disappointed with Theglasgowwarrior at York.

I actually had a good long look at Couer Blimey, but he might be a backup later on. For now, based on that run at York, I’ve added Soldier In Action, 40’s with 5 Places is fair, and worth a try.

    Cleonte 25’s Win
Soldier In Action 40’s Each Way

Darren, I find it hard to second guess which ones of his might be considered, and from that yard, no way I’d write any of them off.

I do like Light Pillar, from the boys stable.

    Stratum 8/1

Far from rocket science backing the Fav here but can’t see him going off near 8s if he runs which was confirmed by WPM the other day and looks to still have a fair bit in hand to me.
18F looks a nice trip for him and Newmarket is potentially harder for Winston to muck up the run with compared to York.

    Second punt 26/09/18 –

    Speedo Boy 25/1

Had a luckless trip in the Mallard LTO and still looks well handicapped to my eye. Stayed on well over 16F when winning several times in the last year and think he should stay this 18F fine. Versatile ground wise another plus and his trainer is a master at getting one ready for a big handicap.

After cooling on Theglsgowarrior after The Ebor Meeting, he was more like it at Hamilton last time. Back on the radar today, and happy enough with that st Doncaster, though also a surprise that Paddy Power & Sportsbook, are holding the 66’s. Bet him win only at that price, and took the 50’s to 5 Places.

Fine trials by Just In Time, and Cliffs of Dover as well.

    Cleonte 25’s Win
Soldier In Action 40’s Each Way
    The Glasgowwarrior 66’s Win
    The Glasgowwarrior 50’s Each Way

Was very happy with my position on this, and more than made up for never really latching on to much in The Cambridgeshire.

I actually went to top up on all three of them tonight, but unfortunately Soldier In Action has been scratched. Really fancied him to run a big race, it’s a shame he doesn’t go.

Common sense tells me to stick with the other two, but in case of any more setbacks, looking at some bigger priced backups, namely………

    Bedrock 40’s
    Couer Blimey 50’s
    Dell Arca 50’s
    Itsafreebee 50’s

I’ve scrapped that plan to top up for now, though may persevere with it, should Cleonte, and Glasgow survive Mondays Declaration Stage. Of those potential backups, Dell Arca would be the preference, though if Bedrock didn’t take up his weekend engagement, I’d give him a good look.

Bedrock did take up that weekend engagement, and won The Horse and Jockey Hotel Hurdle at Tipperary. Won it nicely as well.

Big ask to turn up here six days later, but it wasn’t an attritional race for him, and the 40’s has held in a few places.

As soon as they went five places I had a few quid on three in this with bet365.

Two of which have been already mentioned on this thread SPEEDO BOY at 25/1 and THEGLASGOWWARRIOR at 33/1 each way both of them.

The other one I have backed is very interesting to me. PRECIOUS RAMOTSWE at 25/1 is IMO a huge price. Dropped in class after pretty much spending the whole season in group races and looks like an out and out stayer to me. Has ran behind some pretty good animals as well (Pallister and Kitesurf) and if she gets the trip will be a massive danger to all the Mullins battalion!! Johnny G has won some good handicaps this season too and this could be another one in the hod for him!!

    Good Luck Guys :good: :good:

Precious Ramotswe for me too, I like the fact I can get 5 places just now, and the 25-1 is a very appealing price. I like the jockey booking for Couer De Lion, and with the same each way terms, I’ve bet him at 33-1.

I seem to be siding with Mullins.

Already on Stratum at 8s have added Limini 12s. 50lb below hurdle mark looks big.

Low Sun for me is a good price + bet.

    12/1

For me he potentially is the strongest of the Mullins contenders. Limini i am not certain will want this trip + Stratum, while he won nicely at Newbury is short enough. Low sun also holds a few pieces of very good handicap form over hurdles which make me think in receipt of weight, i’d side with him.

Southern France if he was to turn up, would be a massive danger, if he’s streetwise enough. Uradel was also a very big drifter LTO and will probably be added to my bets.
