Entries out, and just the 140 to wade through……
https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/38/newmarket/2018-09-29/708749
My long term fancy for this is the 2016 Winner, Spark Plug, who I think has looked as good as ever this season. He’s 3 lbs higher than when winning this, but I think if anything, he’s better than ever, and the minute the entries were out, I scanned the list for his name. Once it’s priced up, I’ll definitely back him, and he’s a strong #1 for me at this stage.
I would normally play a couple Ante-Post in this, but if Spark Plug is a price, I may wait till the day for backups, as that’s when the real each way value will come in. That doesn’t mean there aren’t loads of interest, with loads more no doubt to be added to the shortlist in the coming weeks.
After a bit of a blip the time before, Seniority came back with a bang at Goodwood, and though he’ll no doubt be short enough Ante-Post, he has to be considered. The Golden Mile takes a bit of winning, so I can see him near the head of the market.
The 2017 winner of that Goodwood race, Master The World, is another I like. He’s back to the mark he won off of that day, and though disappointing in this last year, as well as last time, he’s a very decent horse, and he looks the type who might just have this as the seasons goal. A quiet run at the weekend would surely only enhance his chances here.
Tricorn, from the Gosden yard, has disappointed a wee bit this term, but he looked a natural for this last season, and the quiet enough start hasn’t done his mark any harm. His stablemate Argentello looks another live one.
I’ve been keeping a close eye on Euro Nightmare, as he’s been highly tried over (to my eye) unsuitable trips, and I think he’s ran as well as could be expected. I wanted to see him here, and he’d be a strong fancy as backup here.
Bravery was a horse I thought would add to his Lincoln win last year, but he’s been a bit “in and out”. I always give him respect, and tomorrow should tell us more, as a good run at York should guarantee his place in the line up.
Despite being very lacklustre since, it’s very hard to forget the run of Sands Chorus in this last year, and he looks very much as if he’s been laid out for this, and looks a massive player here.
It wouldn’t be the same without giving a good word to Battle of Marathon, but at this time, he looks touch and go to get in, and the same problem also faces a few others who I really rate for this, namely Breden, C Note, and especially Nicholas T. If any of them can get in, then I would be very interested.
That’s more than enough for now, with so many to chew over, and so many things that could change.
Main four just now though, are……
Spark Plug
Euro Nightmare
Sands Chorus
Master The WorldAugust 26, 2018 at 20:01 #1364536Afaak 25/1
Trainer said this’ll be his target & get the feeling the weekends effort had this race in mind. Extra furlong is perfect as may be a bit of cut and he’s still nicely handicapped on some of his form.
August 26, 2018 at 23:18 #1364613DANCETERIA 33/1
The Menuisier gelding has come from nowhere, since running 9th of 10 to recent Voltegeur winner, Old Persian, in an April Handicap off 79, he’s moved forward winning his next 4 races and rising to 103 in the ratings.
Dropped to 77 for his run behind the Godolphin horse, he won next time, rising to 82 in the handicap. Another win saw Danceteria given 88 by the assessor but he did the business again and earned 93 for his five length win. Any thought that the handicapper was on top was dispelled as he quickened away to win more than 3 lengths in easy fashion and the handicapper seemed to take a dim view and thumped him with a 10 lb rise to 103.
The rise actually helped the horse to get a run in the big one and I feel he has sufficient stamina, yet a telling burst at the business race, which can allow him to swoop in the closing stages.
A ridiculously trick handicap where you need big odds to be playing for sanity’s sake if nothing else.
This is his most recent win and it’s a quality turn of speed he shows. He’s up to 103, so life is tougher but he’s kept on improving and looked potentially a group horse in the making if he keeps the upward curve on track.

At 33/1 I felt he was a good starting point as a horse with plenty of plus points and not many negatives.
I am pleased enough with that and I reckon he must start much shorter if he lines up.
Go on you Dancer!
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 27, 2018 at 01:14 #1364642Bet365 going 5 Places already. Not best prices for yours Steve, but they are with Afaak Kev, if you were interested in the ew at this stage.
Promised myself I would bet one early doors, and those 5 Places appeal, especially for main hope Spark Plug, and I’ve had an early go. It won’t be the last I can see me betting all four of my shortlist.

August 27, 2018 at 11:40 #1364657Someone other than me must be on Danceteria.
33/1 with Paddy Power yesterday and now 14/1 with them.
Bet365 are 25/1 on Oddschecker and Boylesports 20/1. He’s generally 16/1 now.
I hope some of the forum members got the 33/1. I’m well pleased, even if it’s highly unlikely he will win. It’s a cheaper bet at least at double carpet. The prices will probably collapse once the weights are published.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 28, 2018 at 21:26 #1364859Danceteria is the best backed horse in the race. Best price 16/1 now.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 29, 2018 at 14:50 #1364915Looks a live one alright Steve.
Spark Plug has the dreaded “pink” next to him on Oddschecker, but I remain hopeful. Entered up at Sandown on Saturday, and I’d love another quiet run, to see him come down a pound or two. That’s me assuming the weights for this won’t be framed by then.
Cooled on Euro Nightmare, as despite another encouraging run in Listed Company at the weekend, he looks to have other targets in September, according to the trainer. I’d still bet him if he trapped here, but seems little point betting him just now.
It’s not a race where I’ll have any issues with two of them Ante-Post, and after his run at the weekend, happy to add Master The World.

Both Each Way 5 PlacesSeptember 2, 2018 at 11:42 #1368363STYLEHUNTER 16/1
Felt been planned by Gosden since start of year has run over 1m2 start of year got big field experiance 5th in Brittina and won well last time and assistaint trainer said stick to handicaps everything look like coming here
September 2, 2018 at 15:24 #1368370I have went with your selection here as well Darren, at the same price, and I have also went with Danceteria after that telling plunge last week.
Both are 16-1.
September 3, 2018 at 01:35 #1368413Well it might look a bit like I’m jumping on the bandwagon, but I’ve got to go
with Darren and Kris. I think Stylehunter could, as Darren mentioned, be
getting laid out for this. Gosden has won this a couple of times before back in
2007 and 2008. I’m hoping this one, like his previous 3yr old winner Pipedreamer,
is being prepped for this. Both have had similar build ups with a run at Goodwood
prior to here. Pipedreamer was gambled down to favourite, and if Stylehunter, who
absolutely hacked up last time, does appear in the line-up, I can see him gambled
down to similar odds. 16/1 is worth a punt
September 5, 2018 at 18:33 #1371128Kynren for me at 20/1. Knocking on the door last two runs. He won’t mind the likely softer surface and it may see him get his head in front.
September 5, 2018 at 21:55 #1371264Kris, David Menuisier has warned that Danceteria is not a certain runner in the Cambridgeshire because he is entered in a race in Ireland on Champions weekend.
The trainer said that he and the owner will discuss plans later. There is a possibility that the horse will run in both races, as there is a 13 day gap between the two but it’s not a certainty that he goes.
Danceteria has a mark of 8st 12 lbs to run from and Menuisier said he is not concerned by the weight. He accepted that the horse had to go up for winning the way he did last time.
Earlier on the trainer had compared Danceteria to Thundering Blue in a video interview I saw and he expanded on that recently in saying:-
“It sounds a bit cheeky, I know, but he might turn out to be even better than Thundering Blue, and they have a similar profile in the way that they are improving, it’s just that Danceteria has got there a year earlier. Danceteria is certainly much more professional and easy to handle.”
A case of keeping the fingers crossed then.
Menuisier has two other entries here but they need penalties and help to get into the field.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
September 12, 2018 at 14:24 #1373707Not great news, but this still looks the right target to me.
September 20, 2018 at 19:01 #1375419No Spark Plug after recent forfeit stage, so going with Master The World for the meantime.
Haven’t given up on Euro Nightmare yet, and be interesting to see how she gets on at Gowran Park on Saturday.
September 24, 2018 at 13:52 #1375682Finally added Euro Nightmare at the 40’s with 5 Places, but not much on, as can see him staying around this price should he be declared, and there’ll be extra places available as well.
September 24, 2018 at 15:16 #1375691Second dart –
Danceteria 16/1
Can’t get away from how well he came through the pack at the Curragh the other week and surely he won’t get as bad a ride if he turns up in this.
Third dart added, that’s my lot now –
Kynren 12/1
9F is his perfect trip and think the GS ground will be perfect for him also. Kicking myself for missing the twentys the other week but i think the Barron yard will come for this so i’m taking the 12s just now.
September 25, 2018 at 17:40 #1375738Am on KYNREN already at 20/1 and have just added VERY TALENTED at 14/1 and WISSAHICKON at 16/1.
This Kynren I have backed every time it has ran this season and it would have won first time out but for being badly drawn and then has ran a succession of good races and like Kev says nine furlongs bit of dig. goonmyson!!
All it needs now is a decent draw and some pace to follow.!!
The fly in the ointment could be Gosden horse who could be the big improver.
Stylehunter may not get in!!What we really need is to ask Bobby and Mrsraymo what they are backing having both backed Dolphin Vista
