I think you have all missed the winner of this !!
LABEL DES OBEAUX is an improving novice with the right weight 148 and has won his last two very easily!! 16/1 is huge and to be honest he is my biggest bet on day one!!
The main danger could be Road To respect who has ran well behind some useful horses and at 16/1 is worth a svaer.
For me Champers On Ice should run in the four miler and Singlefarmpayment is too short for me at 8/1.
Good Luck Guys
March 12, 2017 at 22:05 #1291503
Has to be a serious player Jamie, incredible how a lay off gets the pounds off the back, this fellow gave 6lb to ‘The last Samurai’ in last years ‘Grimthorpe’,runs off 155 in the National and yet in only 2 runs since gets back down to the 146 he won the ‘Ultima’ off in 2015…My selection Holywell won the race in 2014 off 145 and has taken another 15 bloody runs to get down to 148…
I know what your saying, but it is what it is, Rightly or wrongly he runs off the same mark. Good ground coming and Mulholland thinks he’s as good if not better. My one doubt would be Geraghty not on him again, but Fehily being jocked up has to be the best alternative around. If Mulholland is right in saying he could be better than when he won before, I don’t think you can say the same about Holywell. Although he springs to life at this place and in the spring, the horse now does look in decline. I may regret saying that!
All in all, I just think all things are starting to favour Druids and he could well go off favourite.
Cannot wait til Tuesday! Love Cheltenham!!March 13, 2017 at 19:53 #1291680Hoping Holywell can get me a nice return in this for the third time, and I’m also going to side with Theatre Guide win 33’s, and ew 6 places 25’s with Skybet, I just think that’s too high. The 40’s for Viconte Du Noyer, also appeals, and might have a bit if that as well.
No surprise to draw a blank though, as it’s a great line up.

You have picked the two I will backing at big prices VTC.
March 13, 2017 at 20:15 #1291687Worth a go at those odds Charlie
March 14, 2017 at 08:02 #1291798I decided to have a small wager on Singlefarmpayment at 8/1. I didn’t bother going each-way.
Brought down last time, he has been quietly progressive and has course form. I expect he will be held up here and come with a late challenge.
He seems one of the more likely to run his race today and the stable are 4/16 for a 25% strike rate this month. Still going well when brought down at the 12th last time I felt 8/1 was reasonable value in a race of ifs and buts.
Good luck today everybody.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 14, 2017 at 09:10 #1291811I am a fan of Singlefarmpayment too. Horses don’t win this twice but Un Temps Pour Tout is a reasonable E/W option.
March 14, 2017 at 09:22 #1291817Un Temps Pour Tout is annoying me. I’m envisaging a scenario where he runs as well as he did last year, wins at 16/1 and we are all kicking ourselves thinking how obvious a bet that would have been. Might have to stick a tenner on now

I’m with you on that, I keep looking around for something in this race and keep coming back to un temps pour tout
March 14, 2017 at 14:59 #1291912Well done Un Temps Pour Tout fans. I thought my guy had it but the other one came up the hill stronger.
Balls!!

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 14, 2017 at 18:30 #1292013Well done Joliff & Golden Miller, and I hope Charlie & Soldier decided to go for him.
Couldn’t have had him at all today, well done
March 14, 2017 at 18:33 #1292017Thanks VTC :)

March 14, 2017 at 19:10 #1292032Well done guys

Sometimes the blatantly obvious is blatantly obvious !!!
TOP STUFF
March 14, 2017 at 20:20 #1292062That’s twice in 2 yrs UTPT has won for me at 16-1; love the way he put his head down
March 14, 2017 at 22:05 #1292090Yes Bobby, UTPT was in my squad. He was the smaller of my two bets in the race but was the hero in a small winning day. After Joes Edge, Alfie Sherrin, Holywell and now UTPT, I’m in love with the Ultima.
Perhaps this renewal wasn’t as hot as it looked this morning. The first two were a long way clear and there wasn’t a whole lot of promise (for 3m handicap chases) in behind.
Un Temps Pour Tout was an impressive winner last year and clearly ran right up to his best, but he can’t have had much more than 5-7lbs in hand from his mark of 155. Just seven years old, Singlefarmpayment ran a stormer and looks like one to keep onside. He travelled better than anything, jumped well for one lacking experience and just got worried out of it by a grizzled campaigner. Tom George is good at keeping his chasers sweet and sound, so there are good times ahead with his horse.
Noble Endeavor ran another good race but he’s looking relatively exposed now. He’s going to be tough to place. Buywise did a Buywise.
Go Conquer is definitely still one to follow. Again he didn’t convince with his stamina at the trip, but his strong travelling and good jumping definitely suggest he has a valuable 2m 4f-2m 6f chase in him. The Young Master ran a satisfactory trial for the Grand National, not knocked about.
The Druids Nephew was a little disappointing, going in snatches before running on for a respectable seventh. He had a fairly rough trip but didn’t travel like the horse who won this race two years ago – he’s probably on the downgrade.
A Good Skin and Holywell are GATG.
I’m inclined to forgive Henri Parry Morgan for a poor run because his rider probably made too much use of him. You can understand the desire to give him a good sight of the fences, but forcing tactics aren’t what he wants. It’ll be a rocky road to follow him (spends plenty of time on the floor) but he’s too well-handicapped to ignore.
March 15, 2017 at 19:23 #1292424The one JP horse I’m very interested in though is Cause of Causes. Very much like Holywell, come the spring, he bursts into life, and his Festival Form the last 3 years reads 211. Although The Grand National is surely the long term plan, he’s a good enough horse to take something here en-route. “Good enough” may be an understatement, as I’ve always said he should be competing in Graded Chases, and it wouldn’t surprise me were he to get a Gold Cup entry one of these years, as he’s certainly miles ahead of his 148 mark, and that’s not a true reflection of his ability. He’s been very good to me the last few years here, and I’m expecting a bold bid for a repeat win at this years festival. Like so many horses, he’s got a plethora of targets he could go for, and though a repeat bid in The Kim Muir might be the conventional choice, connections would have to get him down another 3lbs for that, which can hardly be guaranteed. I’ll cover him wherever he goes, but he’ll surely be off of no bigger than that 148, and should this indeed be the plan, then the 33’s is ridiculous, and I’ve had a decent go at those odds.
One dark horse for this could be his stablemate Tiger Roll. One of the forgotten horses of the season, and I find it hard to forget his stroll in The Munster National. He’s another with Festival form, and though something like The National Hunt Chase might be on the agenda, he’ll be of major interest wherever he lines up, and his run here in October, had “sighter” written all over it.
This one of those races where a large number of the contenders get multiple entries,
Yeh but can you imagine anyone having a double with the above 2 in the 4miler and the X-Country chase at say 16/1 and 20/1 Bob??…At least a 5 grand return for less than a score

Way to go, Bobby! Well done, mate.
