Houblon Des Obeaux & a bigger bet on Gevrey Chambertin.

There is a £93000 rollover for the tote trifecta in this race today. This is much better value than the tricast, especially if you fancy an outsider to finish in the first three.

I thought Benbens had been retired? Interesting that they’ve persevered with him [or perhaps he just hated retirement].Stable form is a worry, unlike the Sue Smith yard that is absolutely flying. Fehily didn’t sound too positive about Goulanes this morning although he has moved to a course specialist trainer. And I get Portrait King and Firebird Flyer mixed up; both of them stand a great chance today given that I’m not going to back them. Surely the fences will get in the way with Cogry? Spooky aimed at the race and Warrantor a bit of a dark horse. Who’s going to win? Haven’t got a clue. Would love to go to Uttoxeter[my local track], especially to see American in the first but they’ve turned the place into a boozy do and I now avoid it like the plague on days like this#sad.

Going sentimental with Houblon Des Obeaux, Alfie Spinner and Portrait King and going sensible with Gevrey Chambertin.

Alfie is surely too big a price, especially with Corals going first 5.

I went for the pair of them on Wednesday, and had a decent go on Mad Brian at the 16’s, but only got the 12’s Spookydooky.

I was torn between Gevrey Chambertin & Emperors Choice this morning, and was really didn’t know how to play it. I’ve no concerns having 4 horses running for me in certain races, but maybe not this one.

In the end I’ve bet Gevrey as a saver at 14’s, and laid off a bit of my Spooky bet, and he’ll be for the same amount as Gevrey, both will keep me a few quid ahead.

I just couldn’t leave Emperors Choice alone at 33’s, with Skybet paying 6 places. He has plenty of the attributes required for this, and did me a proper turn in The Welsh National. He’s only now getting back to the mark he won off of at Chepstow, and from 3lbs higher, he ran his best race for ages in The Eider last time. I just feel that this might be the right time to catch him, and I’ve had a go.

I had to back Liam because I couldn’t be willing him to lose if it looked as if he had a chance of winning. I always back Fergal and Paddy, too, but I’ve reached the stage where, if I backed every horse/trainer/jockey that I followed on a regular basis I’d be backing every horse in a race sometimes. So, Chase the Spud, Portrait King and Firebird Flyer backers will have me to thank if they win [you can pay me later…]. I should back Mad Brian because I have a pal called Brian who is mad [but I haven’t].

Houblon Des Obeaux had by far his best result in two years when ridden aggressively. Strangely, they have never tried the tactics again and although I had him each-way when he was 4th and also had the second placer at 40/1 behind One For Arthur, I don’t fancy Houblon today.

Mysteree was one I considered backing last time but couldn’t get the previous run out of my mind. Of course, the inevitable happened but I’ll pass on him again.

I ended up plumping for Court Frontier, who faces a tougher task but he seems to have found form at the extreme stamina testing distances and off 10-13 I feel he has a chance against some exposed opponents. His mark is workable despite the rise I feel.

9/1 is a shade tight for each-way so I’ve just gone win only.

Court Frontier 9/1 is my sole selection today.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I too like Court Frontier-he’s thrashed the opposition in his last two races and a mark of 131 might just underestimate his current ability.

Congrats chalk jockey; pleased for Fergal and Paddy who needed his spirits lifting after yesterday. Michael Scudamore SO underrated as a trainer of these types.

I think my horse was last on the first circuit when my Sky Box crashed. What little I saw of it he never got involved, seemed to be lobbing along as if there was corn growing in a field somewhere.

Anyway, well done to the Spud backers. Not too tattie a showing there, and an apeeling performance as he roasted the field. Thought I would chip in with a few puns and as Mick said, a salad effort from the best potato named horse since Rooster Booster.

Back to my first love the Flat for me now.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

He mashed up the opposition, but I won’t waffle on; it could get a bit gratin.

    Nice one Chalk J :good:

I’m glad I had Cogry 16/1 with Skybet, he needed all their 6 places to
    get into the money…..phew!
