Interesting to see that Yanworth is tried in cheekpieces tomorrow- perhaps connections have been reading this forum?
Still jumped like a pig
February 18, 2017 at 15:08 #1287908Can easily see Sceau Royal reversing that form on good ground – really doesn’t like soft. Yanworth backers cannot be too happy with that. Made hard work of it again and doesnt win a CH jumping like that.
If SR couldn’t beat Yanworth in a sprint, what chance does he have in a well-run race?
February 18, 2017 at 15:12 #1287910Happy to retract my statement regarding jezki!!! Haha neither will win this!
February 18, 2017 at 15:14 #1287911Bye bye, Jezki

SR does not have the turn of foot on soft ground like so on good ground he has every chance.
February 18, 2017 at 15:18 #1287914It’s a pity for the connections of Yanworth that the Champion Hurdle is run on the Old Course; had it been on the more testing New Course, he’d be close to a certainty. It’s also a shame that neither of the last two champions will be running this year, as I think that either Faugheen or Annie Power would have given him a nice tow into the race and he’d have left them behind on the run-in.
He is clearly a horse who just does enough (he’s won all three of his races this season by asserting on the run-in and winning with his ears pricked) but there’s little doubting his resolution- he knuckled down well in unavailing pursuit of Yorkhill last year and has shown similar doughty qualities in all of his races this season- and I think that he will win the Champion Hurdle…. as long as there’s a good pace at which he can be aimed.
I really hope that Geraghty opts to ride Buveur d’Air as that will only give us a better price about Yanworth.

Yes
February 18, 2017 at 15:31 #1287916Can’t have this Yanworth ‘always just doing enough’ – he’s looking increasingly reluctant to me. Something will sweep past him on the run-in – very possibly Brain Power – and he’ll have no chance of getting back.

Each to their own but his results speak for themselves.

Let him live in his little dreamland
February 18, 2017 at 15:57 #1287933King says he was only 90% fit, strongly run CH and he’s still my idea of the winner.
Disclaimer : I’m a poor judge.

I should of cashed out.
February 18, 2017 at 16:20 #1287937Yanworth is just doing enough there is no denying that, but it’s just enough in small fields on soft ground, jumping poorly. Lay for me
February 18, 2017 at 16:33 #1287939I think 2 miles might be a bit to sharp for Yanworth on the good ground in the strongly run race. Henderson knows that fast pace won’t help Yanworth, he will look after what suits his horses best, Brain Power would love fast pace. I expect Yanworth to be fav on the day, but it is very open race…

2 miles is too sharp for Yanworth, hence why AK initially wanted to up him in trip and then was told to go CH. Having said that soft ground will help big time
February 18, 2017 at 17:33 #1287948There is an awful lot of tosh being said about 2 miles not being Yanworth’s best distance. He has run in 5 hurdle races over 2 miles or thereabouts and won them all. He has won on ground ranging from good to heavy and would be unbeaten over hurdles but for a poor ride in the Neptune. The Neptune is by far the best trial for the Champion Hurdle, go take a look at the Champion Hurdle winners over the past twenty years and you will see that a third of them were won by earlier winners or placed horses in the the Neptune, conclusion is you need to stay 2.5 miles in a strongly run CH. Yanworth is a class horse who travels well, the Champion Hurdle will be run at a fast pace set by Petit Mouchoir which will be ideal for Yanworth’s style of running and make the race a test of stamina as much as speed. The current favourite is likely to get outpaced at some stage with Petit Mouchoir making the running, by the time he gets running the race will be over. Yanworth to win with unknown quantity Brain Power the danger.
February 18, 2017 at 17:36 #1287951Can envisage a New One situation with Yanworth in the champion hurdle. Hes going to be outpaced and then scrubbed along to stay on for a place.
February 18, 2017 at 17:43 #1287954Barry Geraghty will be on Yanworth who will go off favourite on the day
