Splash of Ginge is still really well treated on his best form and I can see him doing the double tomorrow.
Of the others; it’s only a matter of time before Romain De Senam wins a big race like this and I can easily see him making the frame here. Guitar Pete was unlucky last time and he could easily atone in this.
They’d be my three against the field.
December 16, 2017 at 08:56 #1332261Tough race. King’s Odyssey the selection with a saver on Guitar Pete
December 16, 2017 at 10:06 #1332275Clan Des Obeaux here for me, he is the potential top class horse in the race and was impressive at Haydock. He did peter out last season following a fine performance at Newbury but is a year older and seems to be most fancied by Paul Nicholls of his three. Echoes of Frodon last year per his youth. Harry Cobden is riding better than Barry Geraghty at the moment and Le Prezien hasn’t jumped fluently enough to quite take one of these yet has still been raised. The trainer thinks his third horse Romain De Senam is a spring creature who wants better going.
Main danger should be Ballyalton but will plump for an up and coming horse over a 10-y-o and Ian Williams might not be in such a golden vein as he was before the tragic fall of London Prize brought his party to a sudden end.
Starchitect always seemed to make a crucial error at one of the last two over hurdles and can be relied upon to continue the same trend over fences (was the second last in the Mackeson). Splash Of Ginge has had his moment of glory for this season, is inconsistent and his two big wins have been on Heavy which it is not. Foxtail Hill is better off employing his front-running tactics off his mark in these type of Cheltenham handicaps at 2m, surely won’t fend them off at this trip (OR is a stone higher than when doing so in January). King’s Odyssey I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole: may need softer; not jumped well here or liked the course since his fall a couple of years ago when on a roll. Are the folks who keep backing him those who followed the trainer’s Buywise? Deauville Dancer is up in class and David Dennis is a trainer I have been wary of since early last season so generally tend to oppose his runners. Nicky Richards’s southern raids rarely bring winning fruit these days and Guitar Pete is rather exposed with many 2nd’s coming into this tough task.
That’s my feel, await egg on face.
December 16, 2017 at 12:03 #1332318Unoriginal, but Clan Des Obeaux for me too. I did not get the 10’s like some, but I’m on at 13-2. I really like this horse, he was still weak last year. Top weight will not phase him, he’s a big ole lump.
December 16, 2017 at 12:32 #1332324Foxtail Hill, for me. Less competition for the lead, ground and track no problem, 14/1 is much too big in my opinion.
December 16, 2017 at 13:22 #1332348I was thinking of Clan Des Obeaux at 8/1 but I’ve been burnt too often this Jumps season to keep jumping in early.
I had a feeling of unfinished business with this horse and he’s got a great chance today. He ran a honker in the Scilly Isles but that looked a race to put a line through and he has form with Whisper that looks decent. He may just turn into a really classy chaser in time.
He’ll do for me and 10/3 is just about workable.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
December 16, 2017 at 13:34 #1332352I wish I’d taken the 10/1 about Clan Des Obeaux when I first had a look at this about a week ago and now feel begrudged to take a best price of 10/3.
For most of the BetVictor it looked as if Starchitect would win and may well would have but for his jumping. He finds himself only 2pounds worse off with Le Prezien and I’d fancy him to confirm form with that Nicholls runner. He likes Cheltenham, the ground and the conditions of these races. The stable’s still ticking along nicely and this seems less a competitive argument than last month’s race so I feel he should be clear second favourite and 13/2 seems a very fair price. For all his efforts Splash Of Ginge does only find himself a solidary pound worse off with Starchitect and there is a chance the handicapper was a tad lenient on him after that latest victory. Nigel Twiston-Davies is at his best when plotting with a horse like Ginge and so 14/1 in a place seemed worth taking. Despite all of this, I am well aware the favourite does have the scope to be a top level performer and the race looks tailor made for him so I have dabbled with a saver at 10/3.
Starchitect 13/2 win
Splash Of Ginge 14/1 winClan Des Obeaux 10/3 saver
December 16, 2017 at 14:02 #1332364Devastated, absolutely devastated.
December 16, 2017 at 14:03 #1332365sigh… backed Starchitect before the off EW as he’s so consistent and not only was he absolutely cruising but now waiting for horrible news

December 16, 2017 at 14:04 #1332368That was just brutal to watch. I was on the eventual winner but to me he didn’t win the race. :( :(
December 16, 2017 at 14:06 #1332370Indeed, I was counting my money.
But in events such as these, cash is of absolutely no significance.
December 16, 2017 at 14:14 #1332374So sorry for the Pipes; it was like the old days seeing one of theirs win at Cheltenham in that fashion. Horrible start to the day.
December 16, 2017 at 14:14 #1332375My selection Le Prezien nearly came down at the 3rd (or was it the 2nd) last, and that put him out,
but none of it matters after Starchitect. Absolutely stomach turning moment and I’m heart sorry for
all the connections and staff. I’m sure even those who were on the winner would rather have finished
2nd and all live to fight another day.December 16, 2017 at 14:16 #1332378I was wondering what to say but you’ve put it better than I could, victors.
Value Is EverythingDecember 16, 2017 at 14:26 #1332383Tragic loss, Starictect. He’s a horse I liked and backed him a few times. Sad loss esp when he had the race wrapped up too ! It’s going to be very tough for the Pipe team and his stable hand.

A dark day in this household and Mrsraymo backed him as well.Such sadness …. R I P Fella
