Even by your standards, that’s an absolute brammer of a write up Bobby
I’ve hung off until the 5 day stage, I’ve been stung a few times this year with
some that didn’t make the final decs. It’s worked out well, and not quite so
well. I had fancied Calipto, who on his old form a while back would put him on
an attractive mark. I didn’t take the 40s and he’s out so I dodged a bullet. My
other fancy LE PREZIEN is still there, but the 10s have gone so I’ll
take the 8/1 that’s best on offer now. I think he might count himself a little
unlucky last time out in the Betvictor Gold Cup, he was left a great deal to do
by Geraghty, but made up ground hand over fist without quite getting there. It might
be a blessing that he didn’t win the Betvictor, he gets a 2lb rise for an eye catching
run in 3rd, whereas Starchitect gets 4lbs and Splash Of Ginge gets 5lbs. Nicholls seems
in pretty decent form of late, and I think Clan Des Obeaux is a big danger, but I’ll
stick with Le Prezien at this time.December 11, 2017 at 18:23 #1331657Thanks Graham.
I’m definitely waiting until final decs, but proper bullet dodged by holding off, as I really like that Cepage. It’ll probably be between Foxtail Hill, Ballyalton, and On Tour for me. Good luck.
December 11, 2017 at 18:25 #1331658Joe, I seen enough of Go Conquer that day at Ascot, to think it has to be the graded route. Really keen on him for Ryanair, but I’ve been betting him for Gold Cup too, no harm in chancing it, at the big odds he’s been.
December 11, 2017 at 19:51 #1331668A few trends over the last 15 renewals to get us in the mood:
15/15 – Aged 8 or younger
13/15 – Ran within the last 5 weeks
12/15 – Placed in the top 3 last time out
12/15 – Had won over at least 2m4f (fences) before
12/15 – Had won between 2-4 times over fences before
11/15 – Went onto run at the Cheltenham Festival later that season (no winners)
10/15 – Had raced at Cheltenham (fences) before (4 won)
10/15 – Returned 8/1 or shorter in the betting
10/15 – Officially rated 142 or higher
9/15 – Unplaced favourites
9/15 – Aged 6 or 7 years-old
9/15 – French bred
7/15 – Carried 10-13 or more
5/15 – Ran at Cheltenham last time out
5/15 – Ran in the BetVictor (Nov) Gold Cup last time out (1 won)
4/15 – Finished in the top 5 in the Bet Victor Gold Cup last time out
4/15 – Won last time out
4/15 – Trained by Paul Nicholls
3/15 – Trained by Nicky Henderson
2/15 – Went to an Irish-trained horse
1/15 – Winning favourites (last winning fav 1996)
The average winning SP in the last 15 runnings is 10/1December 12, 2017 at 09:18 #1331702King’s Odyssey is the one that stands out to me. As i am not mad into Antepost betting, i have missed the 20s etc available late November….10s or thereabouts now….

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 12, 2017 at 12:30 #133172313/2 about clan des obeaux will do for me, top weight at his age does slightly concern me, but cant argue with both his runs this season and nicholls does well with these types, similar enough to frodon last year.
December 12, 2017 at 13:35 #1331729Clan Des Obeaux will needs to run very well off top weight but think he’s very talented who will enjoy the conditions. Form with Whisper boosted massively, he has to go close.
11/2 is a short but at 7s+ probably on the day, he’s worth a good e/w go.Other one I like is Kings Odyssey. Will also enjoy conditions, had a nice prep and should come here fresher than those who ran in the BVGC.
Unexposed type with a nice racing weight on his back, 10s and up looks value e/w if you can get on with the firms still paying 4 places.December 12, 2017 at 15:13 #1331736taken the 7/1 for CDO.
Form could not have worked out better so far this season.
December 12, 2017 at 20:01 #1331776Joliff, thanks for putting the trends up.
December 13, 2017 at 10:37 #1331805Romain De Senam will do for me here at 14-1 each way. I like this race + will add one more on the day
December 13, 2017 at 14:49 #1331836Absolutely kicking myself for not taking that 10’s on CDO!
Been asleep at the wheel this week, been busy and taken my eye off things…
Halved in price now and when I’ve missed one like that am usually reluctant to take the lesser price…no worries though getting on at 5’s as he’ll go off shorter no doubt!
Think he’s just a different class to this lot…his Achilles heel has been making a mistake at a crucial time in the past but he safely put that to bed last time…a clean round of jumping and I can’t see anything to touch him!
Hitting my usual run of form up to Christmas…Sam Spinner at 12’s…Blaklion at 5’s..CDO for three consecutive big race winners me thinks!
December 14, 2017 at 17:57 #1331983Brilliant write up VTC. Absolutely magnificent stuff.
I really like Remain De Senam for this. Backed him last time and he just got a little bit tired. It was still a decent run in a competitive race.
I think he’s a really good each way bet for this at 10s
December 14, 2017 at 20:46 #1332005Strange line up for a valuable, prestigious handicap. Nothing from Henderson, Hobbs, King, Pauling, Jonjo, Fry, Mulholland etc
I’ll stick with Le Prezien and hope Barry doesn’t leave it so late this time.
December 14, 2017 at 22:30 #1332027Yeah, strange one for sure Mark, and probably best not asking those yards who aren’t represented here, as to why, as I’m sure the excuse/explanation/reason would be a poor one anyway. Dismal, and I’m sure there’ll be at least another Non Runner.
Anyway, on to the race, and I feel as if I’m already ahead here, as the two I was most likely to side with, On Tour, and Cepage, don’t make it.
Not really going to overthink it too much. Clan Des Obeaux looked very good last time, but I won’t bet him here, as he would be great for my Gold Cup “book” if he won this, so I’ll stick with the tried and tested. Ground went against both Foxtail Hill, and Ballyalton last time, but I’ve went with them again here, 16’s each way, and 9’s win respectively, and expecting a decent show from the pair of them.
December 15, 2017 at 17:30 #1332107Clan Des Obeaux could be well ahead of the handicapper here. Probably get 4/1 in the morning, but anything better than 3/1 worth taking imo.
Le Prezien did well to finish best of the hold up horses in the VC, could easily improve if jumping better; 13/2 imo under-estimates his chance by some way.
Guitar Pete was out of it before they reached the first last time out, before that seemed to be improving. Worth a speculative wager @ around 14/1.Value Is EverythingDecember 15, 2017 at 19:53 #1332132Good shouts early CDO,classy individual, interesting to see how he goes.
Guitar Pete is the one who appeals on current ratings.
The Wetherby run was very promising, expecting much better tomorrow.
No surprise poor turn out after the last meeting, about time cheltenham were taken to task re going reports.
December 15, 2017 at 22:24 #1332161Have added Kings odyssey 8/1
Not the greatest of lineups, CDO is far too short now off top weight, happy i got on earlyish
