First bet for me is Goonyella at 20s – would need rain that week as he needs it soft
March 29, 2016 at 08:06 #1240216Maybe JP and his men know something we don’t
I still live in hope!!

I’m thinking with all the contacts they have they must be hearing of 10 or 11 horses coming out and hoping that the other few fall by the wayside so he sneaks in.

I adore Goonyella – he’s so honest and admirable, jumps well and does possess that bit of quality. You’ve heard the saying ‘stays longer than the mother-in-law’, the problem is that Goonyella moves about as fast as the old bird :D
Would love to see him run a big race.
This guy is a machine. All he does is work out and pick winners. Talk about fit. You should see him without his shirt off, serious side of beef.

Very funny and true robin
If it came up soft it removes the chances of a fair few and that’s what he needs
March 29, 2016 at 16:40 #1240265IF IVE EVER SEEN A PLOT FOR THE NATIONAL ITs HOLWELL
JONJO HAS DONE A FANTASTIC JOB BY SLASHING HIS HANDICAP MARK AND HES RUNNING OFF 10-12
REASONS Im LUMPING AND HAVE
1) ran a cracker in 4th in last years gold cup on ground he hates
2) his last two runs at aintree have been excellent
3) he comes alive in the spring
4) his prep run at the festival is a sign he’s back. Coming 2nd under top weight beaten by pipe plot job
5) THE SAME festival hanicap WHICH the DREWIDs NEWPHEW WON OFF 11-4 last year when he was cruising in the national
6)16-1 is still a fair price in my opinion
7) and the biggest plus of all 10-12 on his back.Negatives- he sometime sulks and might not take to the fences and also soft ground.
I’m in at 40s 33s 20s and 16s.
Get the blinkers on him JONJO. He’s going to mop
March 29, 2016 at 18:48 #1240278Last two runs at Aintree have been excellent? On his second last run (December 14) he ran like a drain.
March 29, 2016 at 18:53 #1240279The ground could well come up soft. I said on here a couple of weeks back that unless there was a lengthy dry period it would at least have some juice in it and guess what happened? We had a fortnight without a drop of rain!
Since the back and of last week we’ve had several days of persistent rain up here, we missed the brunt of storm Kate but we did get a lot of rain and it’s only just stopped here now from early this morning. Another storm is forecast to bring more wet stuff this weekend and the early indications are that low pressure systems from the Atlantic will continue sweeping in into next week.
Gooneyella and Mountainous are two that spring to mind if the ground is testing. I’ll have a few shillings on both now as their price might tumble if the weather forecast correct.

Forget everything Holywell does in the Winter, he’s massively better in Spring.

Hard to argue with that.
On the negative side as already mentioned he probably wants genuine ground but whatever it comes up I think there are enough stamina concerns to give him the swerve. On song he travels very well and I think he would be a better proposition running off a higher weight in a Topham.
March 30, 2016 at 12:59 #1240332Beginning to look at good ground horses and a might take a punt on Druids Nephew. Going well last year when he fell but that’s the problem. Not sure I would want to back previous national faller but tempted.
March 30, 2016 at 14:39 #1240339I wouldn’t let that put you off Wasps, 4 winners in the last 15 years had fallen in previous attempts over the fences, and I think it was more of a slip than a fall by The Druids Nephew last year.
March 30, 2016 at 15:30 #1240349Could win a big race VtC and have backed accordingly
BetVictor have gone 6 places and NRNB
March 30, 2016 at 15:31 #1240350Could run even
March 30, 2016 at 17:21 #1240357The Druids Nephew fell when going well last year.
Would he have won?
imo No, but I can see why people think he would’ve done. But the question should really be:
Would TDN have won by more than 4 lengths?
Because that’s how the handicapper has framed this year’s National.Value Is EverythingMarch 30, 2016 at 18:04 #1240362My main fancy for this, THE YOUNG MASTER, was pulled out after his poor run in January in
the Cleeve. I think they were very hasty in that decision, I think he has Grand National
written all over him. His strongly running on 3rd in the Ultima H’cap at the festival over
3m1f only made it all the more painful that he isn’t going there. I lost out quite heavily
there, the chance you take with ante post betting, but I’m taking the view that at 7 years
they have decided to give him another year. I’m convinced he is a National horse and I’ll
chance taking him at best odds I can when the book opens for next year. I think that the
Waley-Cohen’s bought a half share in him last November with The National in mind.I’ve taken BUYWISE some time back, and if he manages to stay on his feet
I don’t think anything will be finishing better.I thought I’d grabbed a good one a week or so back with MENDIP EXPRESS, only for him to be
pulled out the following day. Thank goodness for NRNB.So to give me something to shout on along with BUYWISE, I’ve taken O’FAOLANS BOY at
50/1, who ran an eye catching run in the Gold Cup, before tiring in the last couple of furlongs. He
won’t have to travel at that pace in The National, so I think he will get the distance and his
jumping is sound, he’s never fallen or looked like he would.I’ve added a third, as after sifting through them again, I don’t know how I overlooked HOLYWELL.
He has a touch of class about him, and takes really well to these fences at Aintree having won the
Mildmay 2 years ago, beating no less than Don Cossack. Last year he was a running on 3rd in The
Betfred Bowl behind Silviniaco Conte, so these fences hold no fears for him. His 2nd in the Ultima
H’cap at the festival shows he’s in good heart.I’m kicking myself I didn’t take him earlier, Tommy (THM) saw him coming a while back and has
got some ridiculous prices, between 8os and 200. Atthepost was off the mark quickly too taking
40s down to 16s. Well done guys
I’ll have to settle for the 16/1, but I think that’s still value. If he drifts I’ll be topping up.
Best of luck.March 30, 2016 at 18:34 #1240364O’Faolain’s Boy a very fair shout, Graham. Just took sone 40s NRNB with SJ

He’s definitely worth it Joe, I took 66/1 e/w at the course shortly before the off at the GC and
I thought at one point he was going to keep on for a place, but the pace caught up with him at the
end. He jumped like a salmon throughout, I’m sure he’ll give us a run for our money
