Lol, you beat me to it by a whisker Grey Dolphin
April 9, 2016 at 14:04 #1241763How fantastic to see so many former winners parading at Aintree on Channel 4 this afternoon ! Lord Gyllene (97 winner), Red Marauder (01), Bindaree (02), Amberleigh House (04), Hedgehunter (05), Silver Birch (07), Comply or Die (08), Mon Mome (09), Don’t Push It (10), Ballabriggs (11), Neptune Collonges (12) and Auroras Encore (13) all looked magnificent. In addition Mick Fitzgerald confirmed that Rough Quest (96) is still alive at the age of 30, whilst Papillon (00), Montys Pass (03) and Numbersixvalverde (06) are also still with us, I believe, although perhaps they didn’t make the journey from Ireland ? Pineau de Re (14) and Many Clouds (15) are still in training. If Many Clouds doesn’t win today we shall have 19 National winners still going strong by the end of the race. What memories they have provided us with ! Let’s hope that all the horses and jockeys arrive back safely. Good luck to them all !

Value Is EverythingApril 9, 2016 at 14:25 #1241767Very underrated in my opinion
Very possibly TWM, up and coming but imo not up to the standard of Brian Hughes yet. If it was many other horses in the race I don’t think it would matter, but before his recent good couple of hurdle runs The Romford Pele was not a good jumper of normal fences – even when winning. So the better the jockey is… the more there’s a chance of a better round of jumping.
Value Is EverythingApril 9, 2016 at 14:26 #1241769Thanks for posting that Robin, brilliant memories and glad to hear they are
still with us.Welcome to the forum
April 9, 2016 at 14:35 #1241770Am getting nervous.
In over 30 years of “investing” I’ve never had more money on one race.Value Is EverythingApril 9, 2016 at 14:49 #1241771The way the ground is going it’s going to be a slog and a small number of finishers this year.
I would say Holywell has no chance on this ground and 14/1 is awful value in my opinion.
I would be against Silviniaco Conti getting the trip on this surface. I would be place laying both horses.
I have Many Clouds 25/1, The Last Samurai 33/1, Kruzhlinin 33/1 and Ucello Conti 40/1 ante post.
Gordon Elliott seems hopeful of a good run with the unheralded Ucello Conti and had nominated him for the National quite some time ago. He looks better value than some of them here.
The Last Samuri must have a good shout if he jumps well. I know some don’t think he will get round but Timefrom called him a “sound jumper” in their preview and perhaps the soft conditions may suit him better than Many Clouds.
This is the best ante-post book I have ever brought to the day of the race but I don’t feel confident on the really soft ground. There could easily be a shock today.
Good luck everyone who has had a bet.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

In over 30 years of “investing” I’ve never had more money on one race.Best of luck Ginger, so many good horses this year and now the uncertainty
with the heavy rain this afternoon. I’ve no idea how mine will cope with it,
I can see those finishing heading down towards single figures.April 9, 2016 at 15:22 #1241774Shutthefrontdoor is a ludicrous price in my opinion.

April 9, 2016 at 15:32 #1241776Who is the last jockey to win the National having won the previous race? Does this mean my Vieux Lion Rouge bet is knackered?
April 9, 2016 at 15:41 #1241778I think it is likely to be almost a lottery in this ground!!
I can’t imagine many finishing. I will go for seven or eight finishers and I hope they go steady early on!!Good Luck everyone!!
April 9, 2016 at 15:47 #1241781Have added Romford Pele and Le Reve to Buywise and Many Clouds, but suspect the safest bet is 11/8 fewer than 13 dinishers

It does become more of a lottery in one way in very soft ground, but with so many “top class” horses in the race, so few are real stayers this year. I believe The Last Samuri is one of those, just is he as good on heavy (has won on it)? Many Clouds, weight may tell – remember Suny Bay against Earth Summit? But he is one that is a stayer. Goonyella is my third best result and every drop of rain the better – now he could even start favourite if it is heavy by post time! Holywell‘s Gold Cup 4th was on soft, so don’t discount him on very soft. Watch out for Vics Canvas at a massive price staying on!Good luck all.
Value Is EverythingApril 9, 2016 at 16:00 #1241786Eight pulled up from 14 runners in the last race. Fewer than 13 finishers should be a shoo in. If I recall rightly only six finished in Earth Summit’s year, where I got 8/1 on 5 to 8 finishers. Unbelievably, one punter had money on 24 or more finishing that year.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 9, 2016 at 16:14 #1241788Lol, you’ve got to love Evan Williams, Put to him that Buywise wasn’t the best of jumpers
“he’s a beast of a jumper”. So you’re here in more hope than confidence “we never had any confidence”
God bless him
April 9, 2016 at 16:36 #1241789Fair play to all involved. I think we might see David Mullins in them colours more often ;) Clare balding let herself down trying to force an interview out of mouse morris, it was obvious he didn’t want to talk then.
April 9, 2016 at 16:58 #1241791Once the ground turned heavy your thoughts turned to the Irish raiders but my bets were down already.
Quite an achievement for a maiden chaser to win the National and how about the 13 year old Vics Canvas running a belter in third.
