Rich Ricci has apologised and paid out on Vautour through Bet Bright. That might be enough to appease some people but it doesn’t wash with me.
He made a statement and then reneged on it. That means he is not a man whose word you can trust.
No point in him trying to big up wanting to be open about his horses. Being open only means anything if you keep your word. We now know that Rich Ricci, has great wealth but his word isn’t worth a tuppenny ****
I would purposely refuse to ask him for an opinion in the future, as he clearly hasn’t got the stones to stand by what he says. It wasn’t an error, it was either a downright lie, or the words of a man who pays the bills but doesn’t own the keys to what is ostensibly his “car”
As my old mother would have said “Never trust a man in a dodgy suit to tell you the truth”

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 16, 2016 at 09:12 #1237923So Cooper confirms he will ride Don Cossack. Looks like it will be:
Djakadam- Ruby
Don Poli- Paul Townend
Don Cossack- Bryan CooperLooks like the best chase jockeyin Ireland won’t get a ride. Hopefully someone has a spare ride for Davy Russell

Don Poli
March 16, 2016 at 12:23 #1237974Surprised that Townend is riding a no hoper. Russell hasn’t ridden for Mullins in years. Bit of a kick in the teeth for townend. I also notice that Townend isn’t down to ride any of the Mullins second strings on Thursday. Strange really. Anyway Don Poli has a good chance with russell on board but won’t win
March 16, 2016 at 12:40 #1237980Davy was the owners stable jockey prior to Cooper so it makes sense
March 16, 2016 at 13:20 #1237988It actually doesn’t make any sense because townend regularly rides for o Leary when ruby choses a different Mullins horse.
March 16, 2016 at 21:18 #1238172Road to Riches seems to have been given the Ryanair route. A huge disappointment given his fine effort last year and the prospect of really suitable ground this time. Facing Vautour is apparently no problem at all. I don`t know what the hell goes through their minds
March 17, 2016 at 00:10 #1238239So Cue Card wins the GC
March 17, 2016 at 01:08 #1238249Ricci, for a man who’s normally so animated, looked very downtrodden this morning, and it’s quite clear he doesn’t call the shots, as is usually the case for owners who have horses with WPM.
Maybe Mr Ricci could remove his horses from Closutton and send them to… oh I don’t know…. Seven Barrows?
March 17, 2016 at 12:17 #1238370We’ve went from potentially one of the greatest gold cups ever to a good/normal one.
Last years winner doesn’t run, last years 3rd doesn’t run and the most powerful stable who said all along they would run their superstar here have chickened out and went for the easier target.
Disappointing.
March 17, 2016 at 13:14 #1238399This race has become a major disappointment for me !!
No defending champion !!
No up and coming star ( Vautour)
No last years third!!Looks like Cue card and Djakadam will have it to themselves now unless Gigginstown get something from it!!
Will watch with interest but muted excitement!!
March 17, 2016 at 15:27 #1238441yes, has fallen apart a bit; but still the big race of the year!
March 17, 2016 at 20:13 #1238527Beginning to wonder about Carlingford Lough, who hammered Road to riches + would have beaten Valseur Lido at Leopardstown. I know he has underperformed at the festival before, but at 25-1…….
But will probably go for Djakadam
March 17, 2016 at 20:43 #1238534Don’t forget Smad Place, he could well be the fly in the ointment.
Certainly bring the house down (well maybe just mine) if he should win.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 17, 2016 at 21:08 #1238539I need Cue Card or Smad Place to win tomorrow. It’s the only thing that will turn this Festival around for me.
March 17, 2016 at 21:19 #1238544Cue Card, Smad Place or Don Poli wins, and it’ll be a pretty darned good festival.
BlueSky @pghenn.bsky.social
So don't run, just like the others always do
March 17, 2016 at 22:15 #1238554Always thought Vautour would go Ryanair regardless of what Ricci said.
Ricci, for a man who’s normally so animated, looked very downtrodden this morning, and it’s quite clear he doesn’t call the shots, as is usually the case for owners who have horses with WPM. The 2012 Lexus Chase is all you need to refer to, to work out more or less which horse goes where from this stable.
Agree VTC. I think a decision was made after the King George and Vautour was left in the Gold Cup as a back-up.
Djakadam has never won on Good or Yielding ground. I’m hoping a win for Cooper has boosted his confidence and he rides Don Cossack to victory. If not then i want to see Cue Card win.
