Can’t see anything challenging Australia at the moment. Something may emerge from the trials in uk,Ireland and France in the next week or so but it is more than likely to be another obrien horse ie Geoffrey Chaucer who will be its biggest danger. Australia’s run in the guineas was an outstanding trial for the derby and if he has his parents talent over the derby distance then surely he will take a lot of getting past.

Geoffrey Chaucer seems quite weak in the betting for the Derrinstown tomorrow. He has gone from 6/4 to 2/1, with Fascinating Rock generally 7/4 now from an opening 3/1. Obliterator is out to 9/2 from 3/1 and seems friendless at the moment.
My one concern for Fascinating Rock at Epsom would be the low profile of his trainer in the race. I can’t recall too many Dermot Weld candidates over the years.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 10, 2014 at 20:47 #478705I think the ground has gone against Obliterator for tomorrow which probably accounts for the weakness in price.

May 11, 2014 at 04:31 #478724I still hold to my opinion that you were patronizing Kieren. On many of my posts I refer to "Mr.Fallon" as Kieren.I don’t mean any disrespect to Joey by using his first name. However I will keep my eyes open for your future reference to jockeys by their "Mr" title. In your response to the GingerTipster you refer to William Buick not "Mr.Buick",how about that.Lets be honest.
If it helps "Johnny" refers to Mr.Murtagh."Mick" refers to Mr.Kinane. Hughsie refers to Mr.Hughes and Kieren refers to Mr.Fallon etc, etc, etc. Some we just use their initials as AP…hardly Mr.McCoy!
I do accept that some jockeys may prefer their surname but they are probably a small minority.May 11, 2014 at 11:37 #478740I still hold to my opinion that you were patronizing Kieren.

This thread is supposed to be about the Epsom Derby and not about any paranoid perceived slight against a jockey.
Most of your input on this forum is an obsession with nepotism regarding the O’Briens at Ballydoyle. The rest of it approaches stirring the old crap pot.
If you are looking for a sparring partner, and your resurrection of the old War Command thread that was long dead, with a vague, partly deranged looking, question might suggest that you are, then you’ve got the wrong guy.
Keep your eyes on my posts for more offence to jockeys if you wish. I won’t be looking at your posts, nor will I be replying to them.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 11, 2014 at 15:17 #478752Wow man heavy.
May 11, 2014 at 15:52 #478756As I predicted on lays and plays Geoffrey Chaucer didn’t win today. My selection Fascinating Rock was lucky to collect following a stewards enquiry after a poor ride from Pat Smullen who had him out the back all the way and must have thought he was riding Nijinsky.
Geoffrey Chaucer is 25/1 in places for Epsom now and I have heard a few state that they reckon there is value there. I have my doubts we saw the Derby Winner today and Fascinating Rock won’t have a cat in hell’s chance if he is ridden as he was today. It could be that he is best on soft and he looked very much like he’ll need the mile and a half.
If True Story gets beaten in the Dante, Australia will be odds on across the board, as I suggested he probably would be about 30 seconds after he crossed the line in 3rd in the 2000G.
I won’t back Australia at odds on, he has stamina to prove to me yet despite the breeding, and the manner of his 2000G run contrasted to Camelot who stayed on late on claim his victory.
Australia will need to be held up at Epsom in my opinion and if he doesn’t settle well it would be a worry. He’s the top of the tree at Balldoyle but is that tree a Giant Redwood, or is it more Bonsai in stature?
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 11, 2014 at 18:39 #478777What a ride by Mr.O’Brien.
May 11, 2014 at 20:23 #478788This Joseph obrien bashing is getting tiresome. His horse was badly interfered with twice hence the winner lost the race. Ryan Moore rode the same kind of race in France on Adelaide, gets beat half a length when he never got a gap on the inside but nothing is said. That’s racing. To me I still think Geoffrey Chaucer looks a good horse and time will tell which of the three in the beers ford is the best. Btw didn’t pat smullen give fascinating rock a stinker of a ride. Funny nobody mentioned that.

I mentioned it two posts before.

May 11, 2014 at 21:35 #478802Wonderful ride by Mr.Smullen.Used the stick only to entertain the grand stand.

To sit so far out of his ground in a slowly run race was not what I’d call a wonderful ride.
May 11, 2014 at 22:11 #478806Mr.Smullen learned from the masters of Leopardstown Mr Weld and Mr.Kinane. Mr.Smullen rides Leopardstown better than any other jockey riding in Ireland at the present moment. He would have won by 1/2 a length at least without the interference. You are only out of your ground when you cannot win from that position.

He could well have won easily and without giving the horse a hard race had he had his mount handier. I agree that Smullen is generally excellent around Leopardstown but on this occasion Declan McDonagh rode both he and Joseph O’Brien to sleep as they turned in to the straight.
May 11, 2014 at 22:32 #478811I thought he won easily .So easy that Mr.McDonogh had to resort to unfair tactics to win. Mr.O’Brien got himself in a box and could not get out.Mr.Smullen was cruising up to the winning post before Mr.McDonogh realized that the prize had slipped away.
May 12, 2014 at 06:50 #478825Funny how we all see the same race differently. Only smullen to me rode a bad race and had Geoffrey Chaucer not been blocked it would have been mighty close at the finish. As I said we shall see the next time the first three meet to as to who is the best horse. You have to remember this was a trial race and fascinating rock had two runs already this season so when it comes to bigger races I think gc will come out on top as he will have come on for the run.
May 12, 2014 at 10:52 #478850Australia has been given the full "He’s the best Derby contender we’ve ever had" treatment today, with his trainer describing him as being better than Camelot.
We also learned that the Ballydoyle horses have been behind schedule this season, with a cough going through the yard like "wildfire" affecting Australia amongst others. O’Brien stated that his flagship horse was sick about 6 weeks before the Guineas.
While it is marvellous that we are told this information now, I am sure many punters would have loved to have had that knowledge before they watched several horses from the yard run moderately or badly in their trials and in the classics.
Moving forward to the Dante, True Story is a bit weak in the betting, going out to 11/8 from Evens. This is no doubt due to the going changing to soft and that will surely bring Kingston Hill into the reckoning as the Racing Post Trophy showed he loves the mud.
Odds On that Australia is Odds On shortly?
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
