.
. I do appreciate the comments and ode
thank you
.
.
I thought I would share
theeve
with you

As far as this voting competition
I have never really come close. If you look at the multiple winners
graysonscolumn
and
Ian Davies
both won it twice.
It has to be said one of Davies wins was
off the back offRazeen’s
briliant
but unofficial version. You really need flat and jump form
and graysons and Davies had
both, frequenting the lounge area
and the main flat part of the board.
Having a promoter has also been seen to help.Bob Rolf
and
Blues Brother’s
are
the exception rather than the ruleIf I am a contender,it is clear
my main opposition
comes fromBetlarge
Steeplechasing
and
the ever expandingNathan Hughes.
I wont be commentating this year
having exhausted myself in the bleak.
I have written quite a lot in the flat
section but have a tendency to delete
potential posts before going to print
so it is difficult for many to judge me.I have considered the only possible way
of me winning this would be to do something
dramatic.
I have thought of seven possibilities;
1
. Be extremely nice or extremely rude
to the right people2
. Write a historical piece and something of worth, merit, and long standing. – like
Pewter’s last stand
which all these years on still
stands the test of time.
New people and most wont have ever seen it
– but I can assure you is was
very forceful and dramatic3
. My ol mate
Ricky Lake
(have I lost potential votes
) has had a strange back end.
To cast him as Lucifer in a nativity play !4
. Reply to
Richard Pitman
with a bit of
rhyme
. Strangely enough I have done this last one on the bus today as London looked very bleak pre-Xmas, it’s a bit dark, and just have it tidy it up.
5
.Write something to improve everyone’s health. Problem with this one is there isn’t a health section.
6
. Tell everyone how much I
love
the sport of horse racing
7
. Put posters names up in
bold
type
I decided to post this rather than delete it – strange
December 13, 2013 at 20:41 #461686the ever expanding Nathan Hughes

December 14, 2013 at 02:30 #461722Gamble,
I am beset by
purines
of the
gouty
variety, so I am off the
Krones
and drinking twigs
That doesn’t stop me dreaming….
I’m listening to
Tunic
, which I believe was fifth in the draft in its year. One spot behind Like a Daydream.
At the end of the day only squares remember pecking orders. It’s how many bets that you have won involving obscure Romanian scribes that count.
I still think this is winnable
December 14, 2013 at 14:25 #461804Glenn
Sorry to read you are suffering from
the miserable gout. I had it once and
it sort of takes over. I am unaware of
what twigs you are drinking – but have
read ginger helps and baking soda and
watching the various foods.I am also off the krones as
I suddenly lost hearing in one ear.
Forgot the steroids they put me on
yesterday and felt really ill.
Stupidly went into a high pressure unit
on Thursday at 1.6 ats
and it almost burst both eardrums.
Ended up in hospital. A very bad
gamble. Very much hoping things
normalise.Well I hope you get some winners
or losers depending to cheer you up.I very much hope a
normal
poster wins the accolade. The three main
contenders have put in a lot of graft
and time over the whole year and each is
fully deserving. There are lots ofnormals
who never get a mention.
Without them there would all be lost
in space.December 14, 2013 at 17:38 #461821Gamble dear boy I do hope you improve
and Chrimbo brings some cheer , as for normal posters …the last one I recall was maxamillion ….fab prose ,even though Southwell was the object of his laudatory skills ……I would love to say Pinza was normal , but sadly he got the black death , whipped himself out of town …it was a torrid time ….by some accident Bittar sorted it and now life rolls on , ……I would dare to suggest Rob North could be normal , heaven forbid , I hope he gets better real soon

I would love to think that TAPK was normal , but I fear not …..still he is a bloomin good read
lets bang Normal on the head , after all its a forum …..normality goes out the window
ps Glen used to be normal …..a long time ago mind ….look at him now , gout to the eyeballs ….sigh
December 14, 2013 at 19:41 #461828There are lots of
normals
who never get a mention.
Without them there would all be lost
in space.Rickyetty Robin, the
normals
, as Gamble points out, are those correspondents who discuss horses, racing and sometimes betting: it’s a long time since any of that concerned me, how about you?
Pulling the fruits in Las Vegas or whist on a cruise at the Captain’s Table don’t count
Maxamillion incorrect
Maximillion a fine name
Maxilon5 correct – it couldn’t last, too much torture TRFDo you
love
horseracing?
December 14, 2013 at 21:12 #461838I would love to think that TAPK was normal , but I fear not …..still he is a bloomin good read
Ricky Lake
and
Eddie Case
have always been contributors I’ve agreed with on many things…….controversial!
We’re a cliquey bunch in DLAPS and have a sort of mutual respect for each other but outside our little den of iniquity I always read these guys posts. What I enjoy about forums is assessing the characters behind the words, some are easy to work out others are much deeper and you Ricky have worn your heart on your sleeve in the lounge of late, you’re a bit of a terrier when you get your teeth in andMr Pilsen
has felt his ankles!
TAPK has had his day in the sun on here, there’s been times he’s gone out with nothing more on than a coat of Piz buin and still come home cool as a cucumber but he’s happy just keeping his eye on things these days from his Ivory tower.I came in tonightShutthefrontdoor
and opened a bottle of Bolly and watched my horse get stuffed, normal folk would panic,I took the 33/1 for the RSA with Boylesports.Me Normal?
December 14, 2013 at 22:49 #461843Being different is more normal than being normal these days…..

…To quote King’s words, this encapsulates the drawing power of the forum. Not so much what is said but who said it. These characters can take months or years to form themselves. They are precious and one is interested in what that particular character’s view is, and this helps to build a profile of them. When a character leaves there is always the possibility that they may come back. When a character is banned they are lost forever, and although new people may come in, they will never replicate what is lost, and may take months or years to form themselves.
As far as Ricky’s Pilsenamnia, it was not his finest hour in my view, and was pretty dark splash. The whys and wherefores of it I found puzzling, but also of interest, was to see how it would develop, and the various strategies deployed. The denouement is not quite finished.

Ricky Lake and Mr Pilsen are very strong posters, both are a terrific read, and both different, but similar, in that they both take words to the limit. There was absolutely no winner.
Just to get back to the voting. I do feel that there should be a section for overall
best thread of the year
.
The Midnight Club
(systems) is just one of the top of my head that comes into this category. This would help the
normals
and give them a chance, and credit, when they possibly would not otherwise see the light of day. As for
best post of the year
this was successfully tried on a monthly basis, but became a bit over saturated. A yearly appraisal could work, if people had the necessary memory ability.
Ricky, thanks for your thoughts. As far as normal I meant possibly regular. I feel poster of the year should be someone who has racing at his or her centre. I am often more interested in the non-racing posts that draw out people’s characters, although, sometimes, but more rarely the racing threads can achieve this. As for Drone’s question of whether you love racing ? I presume less so, and more love/hate.
December 15, 2013 at 12:15 #461875hmmm good food for thought here , lets see do I love racing …been involved with it in some guise or other since 1957 , I have loved it more and have loved it less , currently I am quite indifferent , I do think the steroids business plus the unpublished report sitting on Bittars closely password protected hard drive , has helped to diminish my enthusiasm , it would appear that expediency has won the day , better not to further offend Shiek Mo and family, whose support for racing in the Uk is fundamental to its survival , for me that’s incredibly wrong , we need to know all about Zarooni , all about the other Newmarket trainers who escaped on a technical point of law ….very murky stuff which for me just wont go away
I used to go 3/4 times a week , annual member of Ascot , Newbury, Newmarket ,Kempton , Sandown , and Yes Lingfield ….nowadays I hardly ever go , because of traffic and costs , do intend however to renew acquaintance with Newmarket next year
As for my brush with Pilsen , its simple , I don’t allow anyone to be gratuitously offensive to me under any circumstances , if you cross the line with me you certainly dont do it a second time.
I like Jumping but dont bet on it , its brilliant to watch , so thats still intact … does that answer your question Drone ??
imo
December 15, 2013 at 12:23 #461876Anyone with reoccurring gout should ask their doctor for a kidney function test. I use to suffer with it a lot and it can be an underlying problem for other problems.

Apropos of "assessing the characters" I realised some time ago that you were a seniorish citizen Ricky but your posts don’t hint at it; they have a curiously youthful and naiive manner about them, if perhaps generally a little too cynical for a bright-eyed bushy-tailed boy. Not a criticism just an observation
Ricky Lake, if that’s your name, has a youthful ring to it too
Thank you, that does answer my question. Largely agree with the gist of your post actually. For the record I still bet occasionally on Steeplechases but watch very little racing nowadays. Not fallen completely out of love: I still subscribe to Jumps Computer Timeform at £44 per month as I have the lingering thought that I might one day re-enter the fray all guns blazing and would therefore hate to lose my NH database which has been diligently compiled since 1995
December 15, 2013 at 13:57 #461887My 140 votes shall be divided between Ginge and Mike. Ginge is consistantly very good. Mike is very sharp, and the smartest person i’ve read on any racing forum. Then again, that’s like saying he’s the best dressed man in the bookies.
