Sometimes it’s really hard to keep tabs on everyone’s choices and tips and I guess the later posts get picked up on.
There are some great tipsters and form pundits here on TRF and perhaps at the end of each Big Race Discussion thread those who highlighted the winner should have a post so that we can congratulate as appropriate, bit like Bob Rolf’s Roll of Honour and you could look back at the end of the year to see who tipped the most big race winners.
I get mad keen on certain horses but don’t post for all the big races only those that I have a strong feel about, not always going to be right it’s a game of chance, but I like to see people beating the bookie and it’s worthy of a celebration just for that.Stilvi I hope your choices come home this afternoon, your thoughts on the Oaks worked out really well and The Lark ran a great race. Steve I’m going to be cheering Ruler of the World/Galileo Rock for you and Mars for Nathan. Whoever wins and of course deep down I do hope its Dawn Approach lets just celebrate and there are always clues to future races to watch out for so losers can turn into winners.
Always the optimist me..

Thanks, as you say it is hard to remember all the selections put up. It doesn’t help that I post mines all over the site.
I’ve watched Dawn Approach in his 2000 Guineas many times and what strikes me is that, although he may be relaxed he still seems to race keenly enough. He also looks a bit ungainly to me when he hits top speed and it did take him a little while to forge his way clear. I’d like the form to be working out from that race better than it has so far to be more confident he is as clear of this field as some are assuming.
I’m going to have a fun forecast on Battle of Marengo to beat Ruler of The World on the basis that mine will be second and the stablemate will be the one to do the business as it happened in the Oaks.
Good luck all, let’s hope it’s a memorable one whatever the outcome.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 1, 2013 at 20:47 #441526Well done Steve at last the worm has turned and your Ruler of the World obliged for you at a very nice 25/1 ante post and what was even better you had the 3rd horse home too, leaving me the meat in the sandwich with my each way Libertarian, who I never saw as I was so worried about Dawn Approach fearing that he may have sustained an injury.
Just catching up on all the news and videos now as have just got home and fingers crossed after a good rest he will be back in the winners enclosure, but Dr’s Orders for him and no more venturing past the 1m marker. Sad to see him lose his unbeaten record but Sheik Mo said jump so he did, please let him be ok.
Will watch out for your future tipping Steve but as I said I don’t go into the Big Race threads unless I have something I feel particularly strongly about and then you have trouble shutting me up
it takes some nerve to put your money down at such an early stage and glad it worked out for you so well today.

Thanks Jac, Ante post betting is tough at times, often the horse doesn’t make the race at all. I had Just The Judge for The Oaks at 25/1 but they decided to keep her at a mile so that one went in the bin. I had maybe at 16/1 for the 1000 Guineas last year and she never looked like winning behind her runaway stable companion. I had Harbour Watch at 14/1 for the 2000 and he was never seen again. The one that hurt the most in recent years was Canford Cliffs who I backed at 25/1 just before the Coventry but he couldn’t do it on the day behind rank outsider Makfi and his stablemate Dick Turpin. Adding insult to injury he then swept all before him in consecutuive group 1 races.
The good thing with ante post is that when you do hit one, the odds cover quite a few of the losing bets at least or sometimes leave you well in the clear. It is a strategy that needs patience and I find it a fun challenge.
That’s me pretty quiet on the betting front until Royal Ascot and I’ll be studying for the next couple of weeks for that punter’s graveyard.
All the best.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
