Well done Talent backers – I ended up doing the Beckett horses for a 1-2 but unfortunately only the one way. Jim Crowley did nothing wrong but Hughes gave his horse a great ride – shame the jockey bookings weren’t the other way round! Interesting to hear Richard after race saying he did some work on her and he wondered why he was riding it!

Banoffee out with washing but that was to be expected given the ground and she also did not handle the track very well – she’s probably a proper G2 horse given G/F ground but this wasn’t the race for her.

It looked a good Oaks but I doubt if there are any super stars in it.

Very well played, Triptych. Strongest tip for a 20-1 winner I have seen on here.
I’m glad I held fire on a post strongly disagreeing with you pre-race.

    Excellent stuff.

I’ve been reading this board for two years now and read an awful lot of horse and form related conjecture. Plenty of informed people posting for sure, but I’ve yet to see anyone come close to Tryptych in terms of simply understanding what has happened in races and predicting what will happen in future ones. Just superb tipping and reasoning powers Jac well done again!

Yet again I’m kicking myself for forgetting to phone up a bet to follow one of the tips. This year alone I’d have had the winners of all three classics, and two at MY sort of prices too!! I got embroiled at work this afternoon and clean forgot the race was on. I didn’t remember until I heard the result on the radio driving home. Bloody marvellous!

Anyway, I’ll have the drop on you tomorrow. I’m going to nip up to the Gypsy boy’s grave and get the inside sp on the Derby from ‘the other side’.

Hammy, could you ask Tanya if she’d like a new sidekick, always fancied training up for her job
But seriously don’t you think Newmarket is a great place to gain info on horses for future classics, it’s a tough old Course to master and many Derby and Oaks winners have opened their account at HQ..you’re so luck to live there, I would be up the gallops every day notebook at the ready.
If New Approach is churning them out this good the chances are we are now going to see him pull off the Oaks/Derby Double and he also has Libertarian running for him too, a Dante winner no less. Come on Boys!!
So sad that the tragic filly Newfangled never got to show us her full potential, I often think of her and what she might have achieved.
    :D Jac
PS..Don’t forget to post us a picture of the colours on the Gypsy Boys Grave tomorrow.

I’d have quite enjoyed that TYF it could have gone the other way for me if Secret Gesture had held on..just off to polish up the Ouija Board for next time

Can’t believe how calm and laid back New Approach’s offspring seem to be. Think a lot of the fillies today lost the race before it even started. I watched it again on 4+1 and they commented on how relaxed Talent was.

Oh, well done, Slippy! I can’t believe I let one of Gary Nutting’s ante-post tips go unbacked! Now I’ll be watching out for your tips, too.

:D Nathan now when we hear Britains got Talent it has a whole new meaning  and great that you put her in the Telegraph compy too. :D I think our TRF team is 44th now but we still have the Derby and Royal Ascot to come amongst others but 20/1 gives us a good boost in the points table.

If we win do you think you might crack open that packet of Starmix before it passes its sell by date :P

Trip – Britain’s got Talent? it’s a yes from me.

The Starmix get regularly eaten and replaced so no danger of the sell by date passing. Get the Derby top 3 Trip and I’ll send you a pack. :D

As far as I can see the original poster put up Moth to win (presumably the most confident of three) who finished fourth, Madame Defarge who finished tailed off last and the winner.

That constitutes the strongest tip ever?

Looking forward to this race more than the Derby and I’m probably wrong but I have a really strong feeling that Talent might even win the Oaks if Moth meets trouble in running :D

A really strong field and great race ahead.
    Jac :D

Yes hands up Stilvi I did have Moth as my original tip but right at the last gasp I got a strong vibe for Talent and her chances of winning today.

I had argued her case against Secret Gesture all the way through having seen her beat Lady Nouf in the Pretty Polly and I did back all 3 in the race with Moth to win and Talent and Madame Defarge each way.

Don’t see myself as a great tipster or form pundit just back horses that have caught my eye when I have been at my local track Newmarket and couldn’t be happier for Ralph Beckett and the Stallion New Approach who is a particular favourite of mine.

    Good luck for the future.

Not sure I quite understand the back slapping congratulations on someone tipping a winner in a race when they have not only selected, but backed 2 or 3 in the race. Sorry, but can’t call that tipping I’m afraid. Pick one, stand by it…
Congratulations to all of those on what seems a very easy winner, still don’t believe Beckett thinks she’s the better of the two. Think the race was falsely run, had a few scrimmages, and just don’t think it panned out to be a classic classic so to speak.
If the race were to be re-run….and jockeys to be re-jigged…..Secret Gesture would not be left for dead by her lesser fancied stablemate…just my opinion….Secret Gesture won’t be beaten by Talent again this season….

I think Talent has been a bit overlooked for this. Although she’s apparently Becketts second string she won the Pretty Polly in decent style over 1m2f, and looks pretty genuine. Secret Gesture may be the more flashy fancied runner but at 14/1 I’d be willing to side with Talent.

Would like to say really well done Rich, great tipping and hope you had a really nice bet on the filly your reasoning was 100 per cent spot on and she was the better filly on the day and don’t think we’ve seen the best of Talent yet. She has entries in the Ribblesdale and the Irish Oaks along with her stable companion and as she seems to get better with every race I’m looking forward to seeing her in action again.
Well done, and thank you to everyone for their good wishes & kind words earlier
which I happily share with Rich.

No problem with you picking the winner – congratulations – just the subsequent reaction. I put up both The Lark and Madame Defarge and was against the front three in the market. I backed The Lark at 50/1 and 33/1 and Madame Defarge at 25/1. They both returned 16/1 so the SP was comfortably beaten as predicted. As anyone can see my contributions throughout the thread were pretty much spot on including a warning that Madame Defarge was probably not the most straightforward. The each-ways on The Lark would presumably have yielded a similar profit to backing your three. Would I have been heralded a genius if I had added Talent to the other two – I doubt it. As I said in relation to the poster who recently departed nobody should expect any praise – after he won at Doncaster I suggested Frankel for the Guineas at 16/1 to stoney silence – but occasionally it would be nice to see a little balance.

Interesting to see the reaction should you be successful in the Derby because I am also on Dawn Approach, Libertarian and Festive Cheer. In fact post Dante I appeared to be the only person arguing the case for the winner. Not as hopeful about the Derby compared to the Oaks but we shall see.

    Good luck.

The Lark ran really well and paid a great compliment to Winsili who beat her previously. The margins yesterday may have John Godsen wondering why he didn’t chance Winsili in the race yesterday.

I was on Secret Gesture back in March at 25/1 and in various threads I was against Moth, Liber Nauticus and Say. I also pointed out how weak Banoffee’s form appeared to be. I said the two you picked had to improve but were not totally discounted. I was within one place of just about calling that race to a tea but got done in by a horse I had left out because both jockey and trainer made it clear that they wouldn’t have to think long about which jockey would be getting on which horse. Like you I haven’t had a nod of recognition but that’s forums for you. Certain posters always form little groups who keep more in touch with each other than the board in general. That’s just the way it is. I’m on Ruler Of The World at 25/1 and each-way Galileo Rock at 66/1 but I doubt they will be cheering from the rooftops if I collect on either of them

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
