Henry longfellow runs today in a group 2
Hoping to see him bolt in as it looks a pretty weak race
The race has been won by classic winners gleneagles, Churchill, Anthony van dyck and mac swiney in the last 10 years
We also get to see London City in the opening race on the card
By justify out of the top class winter
He has entries in all the usuals, dewhurst, national stakes etc
August 19, 2023 at 17:04 #1660162Dewhurst named as the target for Henry longfellow
Always a good pointer to this
August 29, 2023 at 21:11 #1661504Henry longfellow 10/1
Seems a very fair price to me
City of troy far short to even consider backing, he’s priced up as though he’s already romped home from a good horse in the national stakes
August 29, 2023 at 21:15 #1661508If City Of Troy beats Bucanero Fuerte by a comfortable two lengths or more in the National Stakes, I predict he will be top-priced 6/4 for this straight after the race and will go into Winter quarters circa Even money.
I’m not saying that’s the correct price, but I am saying this is what will happen.
I’ve got 20/1 Henry Longfellow to half the stake I’ve got on City Of Troy (at 12/1), so either would do me.
“The Longfellow” has certainly done nothing wrong so far.

Henry Longfellow has all the credentials. You’ve picked a good one there Final Furlong
Quoted as short as 6/4 for the Dewhurst if he’s anything like his dam he’ll be hard to beat. Best of luck with him. JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 29, 2023 at 23:17 #1661516If I was going for an outsider at this stage of the game it would be
Arabian Crown – 33/1
I’m certain that if Godolphin had been in the form they were this time last year he would be much shorter and he is progressing nicely having won a listed race over a mile last time out beating his half brother the useful Arabic Legend, the first 3 set to meet again in the Royal Lodge at Newmarket.
Looking forward to seeing how he does JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 29, 2023 at 23:35 #1661520Ok, time to put Jac’s colt under the critical microscope so I can look REALLY daft when he hoses up next year!
Now first off, I’ve fallen for not one but two Godolphin 2yos myself the last two years with catastrophic results.
First Goldspur – saw him at Epsom Downs when he wouldn’t go in the stalls, backed him when he won the Zetland, went to Sandown Park to find he hadn’t grown a millimetre, he finishes third to Westover and he since seems to have vanished off the face of the Earth.
It gets better (worse).
I was then at Salisbury to see Flying Honours bolt in in the Stonehenge, I backed him in the Zetland, but he then has the worst Knavesmire experience since Dick Turpin (executed there) in the Dante and has also vanished.
Now Jac has alighted on another Godolphin Stonehenge winner.
He’s a nice sort for sure and the pedigree says to me he could get beyond a mile at three, 1m2f at least, given the stamina on the dam’s side.
The overall Salisbury time wasn’t bad and the form looks alright – OR 98 Son beaten nearly four lengths – so while he wouldn’t quite be for me for a Classic on what he’s done so far, I actually think he’s got far stronger credentials at this stage than Jac’s 1,000 filly.
Interesting!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 30, 2023 at 08:53 #1661535Always interested in your critiques Ian and thank you.
I didn’t realise that Goldspur hadn’t run since being gelded last August, probably somewhere on the other side of the world by now but would be nice if Godolphin gave out more information on their horses whereabouts. I didn’t even know that Regal Honour had died as a 3yo before he had time to fulfil his potential and he was a beautiful horse.
Flying Honours as you said another to mysteriously disappear perhaps he encountered the ghost of Black Bess at York and made a break for freedom.Back to the 2024 Guineas and based on what you said regarding his run in the Stonehenge I have hope that he may be a lively contender for the 2000 Guineas but wouldn’t be looking to him being a Derby contender
Providing that he fills out nicely and doesn’t do a vanishing act..it really depends on how he runs in the Royal Lodge to see if he has that Classic potential. Charlie Appleby was at least positive when talking about his 2yo’s this season and Arabian Crown must be his best hope going forward this season. I must confess I would find it hilariously ironic if I abandon colts with the Goldspur/Flying Honours sort of profile and you effortlessly step in and supply a Classic winner with the very next one!
I am definitely interested in this colt!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 30, 2023 at 18:19 #1661568Just got home to see your post..many thanks Ian made me smile to imagine that might happen.
We all have our own way of trying to pinpoint a winner and there are so many different factors to take into consideration I think I’m lucky to be able to see many of these horses run at Newmarket before they come back and go for the Guineas.
I am glad you’re interested Ian and hopefully AC will get more interesting after the Royal Lodge. JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 10, 2023 at 17:31 #1662565Says there is still some 6/1 available on Henry longfellow after today
I’d say that’s not a bad price at all and won’t last long
Was highly highly impressed with the way he travelled today and with his breeding he should just keep getting better
September 14, 2023 at 22:21 #1663014Much kudos to you Kris for the early spot on City of Troy. I wish you well, but I just have an inkling that Henry Longfellow is the one, but at 5-1 I can wait.
I have had an early bet though on Vandeek at 20-1
September 16, 2023 at 11:29 #1663208I’m already on City of Troy
Rosallion is my 2nd pick at 16’s
Will be interesting to see how he gets on again today
very impressive his first two runs
possibly Dewhurst contenderBlackbeard to conquer the World
October 14, 2023 at 14:45 #1666650Similar to the 1000G, a possible head to head to look out for next year with my picks, City Of Troy 10s and Henry Longfellow 20s.
March 19, 2024 at 16:01 #1687414What’s Aidan said about Henry Longfellow, he’s doubled in price
Blackbeard to conquer the World
March 19, 2024 at 16:13 #1687416Aidan said he is favouring sending Henry Longfellow to France i.e. splitting them up. He did say that in January i took no notice then but he’s said it again this week. I’ve cashed in.
March 19, 2024 at 21:26 #1687495They clearly don’t want city of troy to lose
They own justify
They don’t own Henry longfellows sire dubawi
On soft ground longfellow would give him a serious serious race
Personally think he’d beat him
Commercially I don’t think they want the justify colt to lose
So will split them up
