They could’ve renamed the Champagne Stakes to “Whoever Handles The Ground Wins Stakes.” ;o)
September 13, 2022 at 14:05 #1614615The Flying Childers was only 1.64s slow for 5f – don’t think the ground was that bad.

Should be alot shorter than the price anyway given that performance at the weekend
September 13, 2022 at 17:40 #1614632Funnily enough, I’d got it into my head it was Beckett’s too until I checked the racecard.
Easily done!
Anyway, I’ve had a bit of 14s Chaldean because my sensible side tells me Little Big Bear will be the exception to 40 years of bitter experience with brilliantly-fast 2yos if he trains on and stays a mile.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 13, 2022 at 18:30 #1614636I think Little Big Bear will get the trip, judge by the way he is still full of running after the line, although understand the sire traits. The negative now for me is how bad is the setback and will it have a long term affect?
Holloway Boy could be out next week, the Chesham form is not great and Marbaan put up a poor effort in Ireland over the weekend.
Blackbeard to conquer the World
September 13, 2022 at 18:36 #1614637I hope you’re right, Nathan.
I suspect the injury is far worse than they’re admitting and it might have been a big mistake to even run him in the Phoenix.
At least he will still be relatively lightly-raced by next spring, but I’m not as confident as I was now he’s out for the season.

September 13, 2022 at 18:58 #1614647Probably the best thing as he has had a few races now. Dont think the injury changes anything. Im sure lbb will go to the guineas witbout a prep run unless aiden thinks he needs a run. Nobody can be sure any horse will train on or get the mile. I think he will. The not knowing is what makes racing so fascinating for me.
September 13, 2022 at 19:13 #1614648My interpretation of his pedigree says he should get a mile, Mickey.
However, that very same interpretation of his pedigree doesn’t entitle him to be as astonishingly-fast a 2yo as he so clearly is.
The fact he’s an absolute tank doesn’t make me any more hopeful either – I’ve known 2yos who look more like 3yos, or even 4yos, and they often don’t improve physically from two to three and the rest catch up with them.
But I’m on both him and Chaldean at 14/1 win only and hopefully one of them will deliver.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 13, 2022 at 19:18 #1614649Aiden says “He’s perfect, there’s not a bother on him, we just didn’t want to be rushing him back. We had to give him plenty of time to get over it. We felt hurrying him for the Dewhurst wasn’t the right thing to do.”
Over a mile he doesn’t have to race up front or near the front, they can take their time a bit in a race if they want.
September 13, 2022 at 19:20 #1614650Now AOB has decided to say what I was thinking about Aesop’s Fables…
“The ground may have gotten the better of Aesop’s Fables. We maybe could’ve been a bit more patient with him, but he seems to have come out of it well and we’ll see how he is over the next few days.”
September 13, 2022 at 19:24 #1614651Just out of interest, Mike, has Aidan O’Brien ever said anything about one of his horses and you’ve thought: “No, don’t agree there.”
Even if it’s just regarding one of his annual “this is the best horse I’ve ever trained,” Coolmore advertorial speeches?

I believe every word he says. ;o)
September 13, 2022 at 21:05 #16146556f full of running still has 1/4 mile to travel nathan, thats some way to maintain, its not certain he wont, but i wouldnt rush to believe it either, it is some consolation for the backsrs that he was being aimed at the dewhurst
I said it a few pages back, hes already a stallion if he never runs again, ideal candidate, they made mistakes with caravaggio, i doubt theyll do it again, commercially hes already gold
September 13, 2022 at 21:21 #1614656Yup that 2f is a big increase
Im a golfer 440 yards is a long way
And no matter what the dams side of his pedigree says, his performances on the track show that he is very fast just like his sire
September 17, 2022 at 19:00 #1615032I was impressed with Sakheer in the 6f Mill Reef Stakes today, but, although he is by Zoffany, there seems a fair amount of speed on the dam’s side and I think he might be more of a Comminwealth Cup type?
I would also question what he beat today.
Anyone who manages to refrain from quoting what the trainer/jockey think about this gets my instant respect because, yes, I know how to find the race reports.
But while I’m not terribly interested in what Roger Varian and David Egan think (they’re bound to talk up his Guineas prospects because you’ve got to be in it to win it) I am always interested in what forumites think.
Thanks in advance!
