Log Out Island wouldn’t get a mile with a furlong head start and wearing spikes on his horsey shoes.

Wouldn’t get 7 furlongs with a half furlong head start let alone a mile.

Log Out did just what you predicted in The Greenham Nathan..couldn’t believe they made Knife Edge the outsider of the three

Whilst in Betfred watching the race I took the 20/1 Ante Post on Buratino..that’s it now just hope he doesn’t know he only beat an 85 rated horse on the day ;-) and keeps his head in front of Air Force Blue.

No doubt AOB will have AFB FAB on the day but I am just hoping he doesn’t have it all his own way. Not long now..looking forward to it.

I am not keen on reading much into work gallops. The horse Buratino “beat” was rated 85 and there would be something far wrong if he couldn’t demolish him. Had we put Air Force Blue up against an 85 rated horse what would happen?

5/6 Air Force Blue may not look a big price but there will be worse bets at those odds.

“He’s got Buratino in his hands…… he’s got Emotionless in his hands……. he’s got Massaat in his hands, he’s got the whole field in his hands” :-)

I take your point Steve, although quite clearly Mark Johnston was not testing him against New Caledonia,
he simply wanted to see that the horse was travelling well and get a jockey report as to how he felt.
New Caledonia played his part by giving him a lead until James Doyle pressed the button. He looks to
have strengthened up and to be well within himself, that’s all the gallop would tell Johnston. I don’t think
anyone “read too much into it”, but I do think you can take something out of a good racecourse gallop. Many
a horse has been withdrawn after a poor gallop report.

Whether he is good enough to beat AFB is very debatable. AFB with his form is rightly the favourite,
but as I, and Jac, mentioned earlier I think that 20/1 is well over priced for a horse that has some
seriously good form under his belt.

I’ve very much put my money where my mouth is, I’m hoping that turns out to be a good decision in a
    couple of weeks time.

Buratino did look well in his gallop.
Compare him to what Emotionless done and the prices are the wrong way around. Emotionless was always a strong traveller in his early races yet his gallop was made to work quite hard just to get past his minion. He’ll come on for it I’m sure but I couldn’t have him if he was double the price.

Good luck with Buratino…now the money is down we just have to wait and hope. B-)

I’ll be there cheering him home Graham, may be best horse win. :good: Jac

Still to have the usual training scare re the favourite. Ladbrokes usually know what’s happening at ballydoyle. The price seems to reflect great confidence in the fav. I hope buratino runs well but can’t see him winning. Famous last words and all that.

Johannes Vermeer and Hit It A Bomb both ruled out with setbacks. JV may also miss the Derby.

A wise decision going from his injury into a guineas would be suicide and a easier race to break him in slowly was always going to be the way in my mind.

I said earlier in the thread that Godolphin gave the same messages last season regarding Charming Thought, who picked up an injury after shocking Ivawood in the Middle Park. The horse was reported to be back working well and everything was on target for the Guineas. Then we waited for what seemed like the inevitable news that he wouldn’t make it.

Of course punters have to make their own choices but Emotionless seemed to be backed from 20/1 to half those odds, seemingly on the back of everything being hunky dory and that he was more or less certain to run.

Now we have been told that Emotionless will hopefully be prepared for targets in the second half of the season. If we wind the clock back, exactly the same was said of Charming Thought at the same stage last year.

Charming Thought has not been seen since.

Looks like Godolphin are scratching around for contenders again in the Classics.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

how anyone could have had emotionless on their mind for the 2000 after that ‘gallop’ is/was beyond me.

Surprised it took them this long to make the decision as assuming he is a good worker at home, no matter what kind of spin you put on it that gallop at the Craven meeting was……..not good.

Coming off the back of the knee operation he had after the Dewhurst you would have to think that they have had to rush some or all of his preparation to get him to this stage – backing off and giving him time to come to hand in theory is the right decision but as others have stated, Godolpin has previous with doing this only for the horse to become the equine version of Lord Lucan.

Personally I think if you are going to back something each way against the favourite then look no further than MASSAAT at 12/1 and GALILEO GOLD at 33/1.

Both have group one form and if the favourite is to beat it will be one of these two IMO.

Whether it’s home grown talent or expensive acquisitions, Godolphin have a far from enviable record of improving promising juveniles into classic contenders. Saamidd, like Emotionless, was a very impressive winner of the Champagne Stakes in 2010 before flopping in the Dewhurst. After fairly negative reviews in the build-up to Newmarket he finished last of sixteen and achieved very little since.

White Moonstone, so impressive and unbeaten during the same season, never seen another racecourse after her juvenile campaign. Dubai Prince and Casamento did next to nothing on the level after promising so much at two in recent years…the list is becoming significant and, more alarmingly, showing little signs of stopping.

This guy is a machine. All he does is work out and pick winners. Talk about fit. You should see him without his shirt off, serious side of beef.

I had to laugh after the Lincoln, won by Godolphin’s Secret Brief, when one pundit suggested John Ferguson was already steering the Godolphin boat into more successful waters. Sycophantic anus warbling at its finest.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
