The easiest race of next years classics to predict goes to the most impressive performance of a 2yo in the Phoenix stakes at the Curragh;
MASTERCRAFTSMAN, Everything about this colt oozes class particularly the ground he covers at the gallop! A stiff mile at Newmarket will suit this unfurnished beast who over the winter should grow into his impressive frame! He handles any ground but ideally wants good going! I can see him hitting the front 2 out having had a blistering 6f pace set by Sea of marmara
and powering clear of his rivals( Art Conneissour and the sprinter Rip van winkle) Naaqoos has no chance with his fly-leaping style of running! Currently 12/1 is available for Mastercraftsman, take it!July 24, 2008 at 22:34 #8502Tonight’s Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown resulted in an impressive win for Aiden O’Brien’s charge. Held up in a race run at a slow pace he moved up easily to challenge and beat the Albany Stakes winner Cuis Ghaire cosily. The time was nothing special being slower than his stable companion clocked in the opener but the manner of victory was taking. He’s now favourite for the Guineas at a best price 12/1.
Reflections? The race wouldn’t have shown Cuis Ghaire in the best light as she looked all about stamina at Ascot, but he put her away well and must be decent. Wouldn’t want to play at 12/1 but wouldn’t want to lay it either- no surprise to see him near the top of the Ballydoyle tree by season’s end.July 24, 2008 at 22:49 #174642I was very impressed. Then again, I was very impressed with him on his debut, when he looked in a different league to his rivals despite being only second past the post. Most of those above him on the ratings look like sprinters.
July 24, 2008 at 23:43 #174653Def eye-catching performance. Nice looker, too.
Straight after the race ATR reported a quote of 20/1 – I think it was Stan James, not sure?
About an hour later they were saying top price 8/1’s all round (?)
Though I see it is 12’s as prev poster mentioned.
Difficult to know what to make of these prices quoted over the box.

I might be the only one that thinks this but that was not a Group 3 performance by ANY standards. Given his last win out at the Curragh he hasn’t improved a great deal to be honest although there wasn’t much of a gallop so his turn of foot was decent but you will probably find that the class is pulling him through the 7 furlongs at the moment and will benefit from further, there will defiantly be quicker 2yo’s over the 7f trip to come and Rip Van Winkle isn’t one of them.
If there is a 2yo to take from Ireland thus far it has to be David Watchman’s Bushranger.

July 25, 2008 at 08:38 #174674What manner of horse is this ?

I was most taken. Very classy looking animal indeed.
Dare I say, he quickened readly in Nijinsky like fashion when popped the question by Murtagh.He’s definitely one to follow.

WilsonDespite beating a previously unbeaten dual group winning filly who was and probably still is favourite for the 1000 guineas?
I’d be surprised if he becomes a guineas horse but his dam side offers plenty of hope and he showed a good turn of foot yesterday.
July 25, 2008 at 11:36 #174726Looks a very nice type but a bit early to be touting him for the 2000 guineas just as it was the filly he beat for the 1000 though interestingly they are both by Galileo out of dams whose pedigree has more speed. If he’d run in the Phoenix it would have told us a lot more.

Bushranger just won a Group 1 in France today

6f Grp1 wasnt it?
I cant help but think it might be wiser to keep Bushranger at 6f and not rise him in trip. Could be next years superstar sprinter in my opinion

And Bushranger certianly is one to take, landed a massive group 1 today.
November 6, 2008 at 02:39 #188215Im pretty sure that Albertas Run will leave them all in his wake.

Joking aside, it might be a bit early to forecast that race, just yet.

This time next year you’ll be a millionaire.November 6, 2008 at 03:27 #188229Alchemist, You too could be a wealthy man with this Ante-post Lucky 15;
Proportional 9/1 1,000gns
Mastercraftsman 12/1 2,000gns
Again 16/1 Oaks
Black bear island 20/1 DerbyNovember 6, 2008 at 03:43 #188233I would tend to agree about Mastercraftsman. He was over the top at Longchamp and racing on a softer surface than he ideally likes and will probably get at Newmarket. Good or faster ground in the Guineas and he’ll take some beating.
November 6, 2008 at 04:23 #188246Mastercraftsmans stride pattern is superb. He seems to cover so much more ground that his rivals with less effort required. The Longchamp run was a one off for him and I’m happy to put a line through that.
I’ll be siding with Art Conneisseur though. If he repeats his early season Ascot run (which was his only run at 100% fitness) that 33/1 will look very big after he blitzes the whole field at Newmarket.
Mastercraftsman is very tempting at 12’s though.
We’ll see…
November 6, 2008 at 04:39 #188251Halfway, If you fancy Art Conneisseur he is regularly trading around 44-60 on Betfair! his turn of foot is potent but will he still show it over a mile?
