http://www.anglogermanracing.comOctober 6, 2009 at 14:39 #252100There is now a ‘Spotlight’ section on the Pardubice website:
http://www.pardubice-racecourse.cz/dost … ntare.html
Will have to run it through a translator later.
Hope those odds do not include the stake, if not, the overround isn’t unbearable (@130%).

October 6, 2009 at 17:53 #2521437/1 Mr Big..!! I’ll take my chances at the racecourse..
October 9, 2009 at 11:50 #252583Race is being shown on ATR but only a recording after the event I think.
I will be trying to update twitter page throughout weekend & the during the race itself if possible. (can access thru’ my website).Nellerie seems to have travelled well. Eating & drinking plenty & has worked on track a couple of times. Ground seems pretty fast. A little rain would be helpful but we are very happy with ho everything has gone thus far, though from here on in Lady Luck will play a huge part.

Best of luck for the big race on Sunday.
It was a nice limber up at Perth and hopefully the different test at Pardubice will produce a decent effort.

October 9, 2009 at 16:42 #252609ATR are showing a recording of the Pardubicka on Weds 14th Oct during the Racing Review section at 11.30am according to Sir Bob.
October 9, 2009 at 17:03 #252612Instead of Lady Luck I read Lucky Luk; perhaps that is a sign [was going to have a small ew on him, anyway].It seems like, at this time of year, we’re sending all of our troops out to distant shores [Arc, Breeders Cup,Prague…] Good luck to all of them and come back safe.
October 10, 2009 at 01:40 #252680I’ll be taking as many photos of the British and ‘German’ runners as I can on Sunday, and providing the wi-fi is working OK, I hope to have them uploaded on my website just after the race. If there’s a problem, the wi-fi in my hotel here in Prague seems to be working pretty well, so if I hve no joy at the course, I’ll download the piccies from the hotel.
I hope Nellerie runs a great race for you David – I thnik we will have quick ground (it’s been really warm in Prague today), but anything can happen in a race like the Pardubicka!!

There’s no one better than Ferdy for preparing a horse for a big event especially for long distance marathons.
Lucky Nellerie must have an excellent chance as too must Charle Mann’s Mr Big, Charlie knows what’s required having ridden the winner himself which seems like 100 years ago.
Mr Big is the more consistant of the two but that means very little when Ferdy is involved. He’s one of my favourite trainers and reminds me in many ways of Capt Ryan Price but let’s not go there

Lucky Nellerie should have no problems with the course he’s won at Sedgefield Kelso and Catterick all when conditions were testing. A ploughed field or two will be like a walk in the park to the horse in comparison to that lot.
Little doubt Sixteen deserves to be fav having won the race twice we know he’ll get he trip but I’m not so sure if his jockey will. He must be nearer 60 than 50 and the’ll be no Frankie Detorri leaps if he wins.
A friend here reckons he’s buying money and banged into him at 2/1. His reasonig is it takes a special horse to win over such a long trip and those that do often do so again. Looking at how many horses have won this 2 3 and even 4 times I guess he’s probaly right but not for me at the current 7/4
Sixteen was lucky last year, I can’t remember the horses name but he would have been the winner but for going of course and getting kicked out so he’s definitly beatable.
I just prefer Mr Big though he’s consistant, wee bit further than he’s used to but I don’t reckon the extra 1.3 miles will bother him at the pace they go , he jumps like a buck but does tend to put in the odd short one but against that he’s never fallen and is tough as nails.
1 and wumpence halfpeny to win is about all I’ll be risking but really looking forward to watching either on a link or the replay on world racing videos.
Hodně štěstí with Lucky Nellerie
October 10, 2009 at 12:32 #252712Indeed Fist – my namesake is just one of the long line of horses that Ferdy has had to contest the Velka

Sixteens jockey is 28 year old Josef Bartos. His trainer is Josef Vana, who still rides at the age of….well, I’ve lost count! He must be mid to late 50s now, and he’s got FOUR runners in the race, and true to form he’s in the saddle of one of them! He’s not on Sixteen, but takes the ride on Tiumen, whilst his son is on Del Sole (I think thay’s the right way round anyway!!).

I interviewed Ferdy Murphy after the race, and he said he just cocked his head going to the 6th. I’ve written a report on my website, and someone has also uploaded the race on YouTube:

You might think the commentator has gone a bit overboard, ut I csn tell you that Josef Vana is really something in thses parts!!

http://www.anglogermanracing.comOctober 12, 2009 at 13:41 #252963Great race. Quite exciting with a thrilling finish. But what a story! Tiumen has won with the 57 years old Jockey Josef Varna! A victory for the experience…
October 12, 2009 at 21:34 #253060Just back from Prague and the Velka is certainly an experience..
Darren’s comments on the car boot sale feel certainly ring true – it is a bizarre set-up for a racecourse with everyone channeled through rows of stands selling everyone type of food & drink imaginable (but maybe not all of it exactly edible).
A magnificent performance by Vana – his lifetime stats are absolutely imcredible and his reception after the race was amazing. We were in the stand immediately opposite the winning line and I am not sure how the old, battered frame survived it (the stand that is not Vana).
The Tote system is very easy and managed to find a couple of winners.
But the abiding memory will be the stable lass of Gawain fighting to get across the course at the end of the 7th race and running non-stop to the far side of the track where the horse ambulance was in attendance for the stricken animal behind the screens.
The lasses parade in the jockey’s silks and she was still wearing the colours. From high expectation to utter despair..
I am certainly not a sentiment guy but it is an unforgiving track and it also looked as though a runner in the Velka suffered the same fate.
Cannot find any details though and for all I know, both horses recovered.?
Was also told that you had the opportunity to walk the course after racing but the security staff were having none of it. Maybe it was opened later but this didn’t seem to be the case (Darren, did you get across the track.?)
