Backing Irish horses that the trainers says is not running but then changes his mind is probably the best way to get a 100/1 + winner.

I had £20 on New Approach for the Derby when Jim Bolger said it wasn’t running but I didn’t get 100/1 was around 90/1 and Kicking King traded at huge odds when it was unlikely to run in the Gold Cup but did and won it.

Had a huge near miss with Sir Rembrandt when he was second in Gold Cup, had odds of 800/1 when he was a doubtful runner that actually ran and stood to win £16k for my £20 but he was beaten half a length by Best Mate. Was at work at the time and listened to it on the radio and was quite philosophical about it.

Mikeal D’Haguenet has traded at 250/1 for this years Arkle (The Ante Post King probably mopped that up)

Forpadydeplasterer has traded at 110/1 for the Champion Chase and 300/1 for the Ryanair, currently available at 170/1 for the Ryanair and is my selection

Shame it’s restricted to just horses Gerald, I’d reckon the best chance of a 100/1 winner would be something like a golf tournament!

Remember a couple of years ago and one of the major’s where I came as close as I ever have to having a real monster priced winner. I picked three golfers out before the tournament started and backed then all e/w, I had Sergio Garcia (40/1) Kenny Perry (80/1) and Chad Campbell (125/1).

Sergio had a poor tournament and was never, ever in contention, Chad Campbell was the clubhouse leader after the 1st round and stayed up there all the way, Kenny Perry was always up there going steady away aswell never far away from the leaders..

After so many twists and turns in the final round, unbelievably for me, both Campbell and Perry were in a 3 man play-off for the title with Angel Cabrera. Just to rub salt into my wounds, Campbell and Perry tee’d off and hit their balls straight down the middle of the fairway, while Cabrera smacked his into the trees.

It goes without saying that more twists and turns followed and Cabrera ended up winning the thing and denying me an (80/1) or (125/1) winner! I collected nicely from the e/w but don’t think I’ll get that close again for a few years!

This is risky but at 220 on Betfair Sergeant Pink may be worth a few quid. I’ve backed and laid at 30 (keep bet) in the win market and backed and laid at 10 (keep bet) in the place market.

It is risky but life is a gamble….
