The way Ghanaati won that the question is now how good can Walter Swinburns Laudatory be this season who has gone to win his last two races since finishing 8L behind the winner here…well done who selected and backed the winner

Well on the 16th of Dcember I said " I’m one of the few who doesn’t fancy Rainbow View…..admitedly I have nothing I fancy to beat her but I will be trying to dig one out nearer the time.
Just doesn’t look the real deal me and think she’s there to be shot at."
Not all about spotting the good ones is it?
May 3, 2009 at 18:47 #225336A perfect example as to how betting on Flat racing can make you look totally stupid. Backing that winner owed a huge amount to guesswork.
Pursuit Of Glory ran like a 40/1 shot. Either she is not particularly good or wasn’t ready in which case she shouldn’t have been running.
Two points to take away other than an impressive performance from the winner – punters can trust Jim Bolger to get one ready first time and for all his critics there are few better than Richard Hills riding from the front.
May 3, 2009 at 18:49 #225337Well done, Bulwark and Moehat. I for one never gave the winner a look in, despite her canny trainer and her truly amazing breeding.
Not only Giant’s Causeway and Mr. Prospector, but her second dam is the wonderful Height of Fashion.
Apparently Sheikh Hamdan has said she probably wouldn’t get 12f and probably wouldn’t go for the Oaks, but it might be worth a try. She’s sure to get 10f.
May 3, 2009 at 18:50 #225338Interesting that John Gosden thought that the ground was all wrong for her today and was hoping for rain last night, and in the interview on CH4 Jimmy Fortune said she was in trouble form four and a half furlongs out..
I cannot say she is not the real deal, as on ground with some cut she could bounce back, i got it totally wrong as i thought she would of gone on this ground well, but it must of really firmed up before post time
May 3, 2009 at 18:50 #225339RV to the Oaks now, gents?
JG seemed to give a small hint that she’ll go to Epsom now.
Will the owner be worried about running RV and Fantasia against each other now in the Oaks?
What about Fantasia’s form? What do we think of that now?
May 3, 2009 at 19:01 #225344I personally feel Fantasia has a better turn of foot that Rainbow on Good to Firm ground,so if ran today on firming ground i believe she would of finished in front of Rainbow View, but beating the winner is another story, i do not think nothing would of beaten Ghanaati today..best horse on the day

Ok so I said she wouldn’t win but I want to be honest. That’s the best performance I have seen from Rainbow View and I think she has improved.
There was nothing of her last year hence my dilike for her. When I watched the race again I was very impressed and thought she ran a cracker in defeat. She actualy looked a more complete horse today and she will improve even further.
Give her time and anyone who backed her forget today and keep backing her. I think you will be well rewarded.

Absolutely agree Fist, she will be better on good ground, and keeping the faith should be done, her defeat was not that bad on unfavourable ground and seemed to pick up again when she hit the rising ground.
Getting with in 3L to the winner and her time was much faster than when betting Fantasia in the Group 1 Meon Valley Stud Fillies’ Mile at Ascot infact she has shaded 3 seconds off her time from that race so she is definetly getting quicker
May 3, 2009 at 19:19 #225349John Magnier and Cooolmore will be really pleased with the result. Today 1st,2nd, and 4th bred from Coolmore stallions.Yesterday2nd .Too bad Galileo stock seems to lack the speed to win a Guineas.2nd last year and 2nd this year twice.
May 3, 2009 at 19:30 #225353"soon in touch, pushed along over 2f out, ridden and unable to quicken well over 1f out, kept on final 100 yards, pressed for places close home."
Doesn’t sound to me like one to lump on next time out folks (Rainbow View)? She might need at least a couple more runs to come to her best (whatver her best now is), and bearing in mind I think the first and third today are bound to go on again she will need to improve to win a group 1. For my money you judge her on todays race and not what she did as a two year old – that means didly squat after todays performance.
Good point raised, not all classy 2yr olds make a successful transission to three and she might of been ahead in here 2yr old career which will effect her three year old status.but as you said she might need a couple of more runs to get back into the mix at high group level, and Ghanaati should go on from that run and improve and Cuis Ghaire will be favoured better on Irish soil i feel
May 3, 2009 at 19:35 #225354That was an impressive effort from the winner, up with the pace all the way.
Any news on Aspen Darlin? ? ?

Oh my!!! Marble. Burn your form book and look at the horse/race. She was picking up really well in the closing stages and one could clearly see she has a touch of class to her. She looked really strong in comparison to the skinny thing who was winning last year. Some fillies grow abit too much size and muscle between 2 and 3 and they take a bit more time to come to their peak. Looking at her I think there’s a good chance that is what has happened here.
I do agree with what you say: what she did last year means SWA. but I think there is better to come.

I bet Strawbridge is regretting not running Fantasia now, though it doesn’t surprise me that an American went for hype over proven well-being.
Well done to those who backed the winner.
May 3, 2009 at 19:49 #2253582nd this year twice.
2nd and 3rd Andy, delegator was 2nd in the 2000.
What I would like to see with Ghanaati, and this is the most important thing she has to prove IMO, is if she can stay fit for a season. When Giants Causeway had Footstepsinthesand, Shamardal and Maids Causeway in 2005 all three were injured and out by the time of the eclipse. Heatseeker (and, may be wrong, but I think Frost Giant too) were injured early in their careers too and came back to be good in america, so dont think it’s a training off issue, just a possible susceptablity to injury issue.
This was what I thought when making my ttf as had Ghanaati in my line but replaced her with Campanologist, as had a slight suspicion she may have too much improvement to make for today, however now I really regret that now, as she looks like being a 100 pointer by the end of the coronation.
Was it just me or did the pace look really fast there, IMO it looked fast and they all finished strung out all over the place, and Super Sleuth came right from the back, which makes the performance of Ghanaati all the more impressive as she was prominent throughout and struck for home early. So too with Cuis Ghaire.
I dont think it was all 100% guesswork stilvi, IMO Rainbow View never looked like a guineas winner to me, I had fancied Serious Attitude, but then started to think of a fast pace likely due to cuis ghaire and rainbow view too, which IMO wouldnt have suited Serious Attitude. The ground was fast and the winner was smartly bred for the task and well spoken of by the trainer. She was never banker material but nothing in the guineas usually qualifies as banker material, with it being a classic, and that’s why its worth hedging your bets if you feel challenged to having a go.

TrendsMan, how can you compare those two times?
Ascot is run on a bend, Newmarket is a mile straight
