The easiest race of next years classics to predict
I must have read the above about a dozen times in the past week, and I have only just taken it in; I must have been misreading it for saying the earliest . .
December 16, 2008 at 22:00 #197421We have a wonderful crop of fillies this time. [edit: Well, 3, anyway.]
Sometimes, we are still scratching around for the 1,000 Guineas winner after the Imprudence, Nell Gwyn and Fred Darling have all taken place.
Other years, it is bleeding obvious, and this is one of them.
Criquette is keen on coming over to match her brother Freddie’s success with Naaqoos in the 2,000 the preceding day. Bring it on I say. There will be a battle royal, but Rainbow View will still prevail over the impressive Marcel Boussac winner Proportional.
Luca’s Fantasia, 2nd to Rainbow View in the Hoover Fillies Mile, will come an isolated 3rd.
On better ground than her last couple of runs, Rose Diamond will snatch 4th late on.
Proportional will go on to win the Prix Diane.
Fantasia will go on to win the Oaks and the St Leger.
December 16, 2008 at 22:03 #197426I’m one of the few who doesn’t fancy Rainbow View…..admitedly I have nothing I fancy to beat her but I will be trying to dig one out nearer the time.
Just doesn’t look the real deal me and think she’s there to be shot at.

Likwise
December 17, 2008 at 00:17 #197476This is going to be a boring thread, so I’ll add a story.
I have only ever had two ante-post bets on the Guineas.
The last time, I must have just had a win in the bookies, because no planning went into it. I saw that Desert Prince was 33/1 AFTER he has won the Free Handicap. He was sent to the Poulains instead, and came a disappointing 3rd. Subsequently, he won the Irish 2000 (on my birthday, if you please), the Moulin and the QEII. (Was also 2nd in the St James.)
The first time, I trawled through the Form Book and came up with Miesque and Milligram. Now I confess, I can’t remember which one I came up with first, and which one I thought was the danger. This was just a few days before Miesque ran in the Imprudence. Both were 16/1, so I backed them both EW . . . .
in a double with the horse that deserves to remain nameless that came 4th in the Derby and won the July Cup. Now how can a horse do that, and not do something as simple as coming in the first 3 in the 2000? I must have thought I was buying money at 5/2 (or may have been 7/2).
(Can someone please insert an emoticon of someone chucking up )And because I already had ante-post tickets on them, I didn’t bother to do the Miesque Milligram forecast on the day.
December 17, 2008 at 01:51 #197522Of all the fillies in maidens and lower rated races i’ve seen this year the one that stood out as an underdog for this, for me, is Mr Bell’s Sariska.
She bolted up at Newmarket and looked a very nice type – possibly a nice Oaks filly too.
I was at Newmarket for Fantasia’s July Newmarket win and for her to win in those kind of conditions was very impressive. It was absolutely hacking it down at the time. I thought she was going to win the Fillies Mile up until the last furlong (as i’m sure most of us did – I’d still be interested to know what price Rainbow View went to in running for that…)
33’s for Sariska does look big IMO….Good EW value
December 17, 2008 at 03:01 #197541I do think Rainbow View looks the part but her foaling date of May 21st, has to be a big worry. I too will look for something to oppose her …probably on the day, no ante post play.
December 17, 2008 at 03:07 #197545Already had a little go on Moineach and Blas Ceoil and would be hopeful that a winter behind them and good ground at newmarket should see them better, but think that Serious Attitude and Aspen Darling would look to be over priced.
I’d probably say Serious Attitude would be the one I’d fancy most to win.
December 17, 2008 at 03:13 #197546"Rainbow view" lacks scope, she was a cracking 2yo but if the likes of "Proportional" turn up at Newmarket there is only one winner!
December 17, 2008 at 05:40 #197577Fantasia appears to bare more scope than Rainbow View does, but there is 2 1/2 lengths to catch up on. Besides, Rainbow View was still improving up to the Fillies’ Mile win, so I expect she won’t plateau prior to Newmarket.
I expect Proportional to bypass Newmarket for the Pouliches instead, but she still has plenty to prove when beating Elusive Wave by 3 lengths and the favourite had not raced in Pattern class prior to the Boussac.
I should be searching for one to beat Rainbow View – that’s my style, always looking to down the favourite. But in this case it’s hard to toss her. If all your speculation swells her price into the black, I’ll pounce!
December 17, 2008 at 23:27 #197704Gerald,what bookmaker did you get 16/1 from for Miesque before she ran in her trail??? Your one lucky guy if you did because to my memory Miesque was 2-1 winter fav for the 87 guineas all the way through
December 18, 2008 at 00:19 #197724LADBBROKES, were going 16/1 into the New year! incredible! to say she had won the "boussac" they did not think she would come over for the Guineas! I remember it well because i had an Ante-post bet on "Miesque"
at 16/1 for the 1000 and "Bellotto" at 20/1 for the 2000, i also had "Milligram" at 25/1 for the Oaks and "Reference Point! at 10/1 for the
Derby!December 18, 2008 at 02:48 #197761one lucky guy
Lucky, but stupid.
By the way, people do realise I’m joking when I say that Fantasia will win the St Leger? She probably won’t stay that far. Which race will Luca run her in after she wins the Yorkshire Oaks?
I can’t be bothered to use those emoticons all the time. There just ain’t enough variety. I am not used to winking at people. What I want is one with a tongue sticking out of the side of the mouth.
I was bullshitting about Rose Diamond as well.

Gerald, I"m trying to give your thread a bit of support here, but i get the feeling you have eaten a bit too much "fruitcake" with your tea!
February 10, 2009 at 02:24 #209367French Guineas likely target for Proportional
By Desmond Stoneham11.27AM 9 FEB 2009EARLY indications from France suggest Proportional, 7-1 second favourite for the Stan James 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, is more likely to stay at home for the French version.
According to Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, no final decision will be made until the filly has reappeared in the Prix de la Grotte at Longchamp on April 12.
However, trainer Criquette Head-Maarek appears to be favouring the domestic route for the daughter of Beat Hollow, easy winner of the Prix Marcel Boussac on her last of three starts as a two-year-old.
"The filly looks well and she will initially be aimed at the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches at Longchamp in May," said Head-Maarek, who has a fine record in the Newmarket Classic courtesy of wins by Ma Biche (1983), Ravinella (1988) and Hatoof (1992).
"She’s been fine but we haven’t really started with her yet as we can’t even canter at Chantilly for the moment because of the snow and rain," added the trainer.
[/color:12odkxdu]Head-Maarek has always held Proportional in high esteem and was surprised when she was beaten on her debut at Deauville before losing her maiden tag at Chantilly.
She then won the Marcel Boussac by a wider margin than Zarkava in 2007, making mincemeat of 15 rivals to score by three lengths over previously unbeaten Elusive Wave.
That performance means she was a best-priced 7-1 for the 1,000 Guineas behind favourite Rainbow View, a best-priced 5-2 but only 7-4 with Ladbrokes, William Hill and Totesport.
Head-Maarek is also looking forward to campaigning Ladbrokes Sprint Cup winner African Rose in 2009.
"She’s also done well and has put on a lot of weight during the winter," said Head-Maarek. "I don’t really know where she’ll start, but there are a lot of top sprints round Europe all season."
How seriously should I take the ground conditions in Chantilly at the moment affecting Naaqoos’s chances for the 2000?

I put Serious Attitude up (on numerous threads) after her win at Salisbury and haven’t been convinced that I’m on the wrong horse. The step up in trip should bring about masses of improvement (the fact she’s won over six furlongs at all is astounding) and I’m very happy with the 33/1, 28/1 and 25/1 I’ve already taken.
February 10, 2009 at 03:18 #209382Also have a liking for the horse, need to start getting some money on.
