April 8, 2010 at 19:57 #288672Special Duty reminds me an awful lot of Canford Cliffs! Sprinters!
April 8, 2010 at 20:01 #288674Special duty another rainbow view good at 2 then useful at 3
April 8, 2010 at 20:09 #288682There’s something about late season French 2yos
Like Zarkava or Divine Proportions?
Oh wait…
Behave!
She’s the third French Classic hope in a row to look amazing at the Arc meeting/late in the season and then come back to look mediocre.
The two you mention actually stayed unbeaten and were very special
April 8, 2010 at 20:28 #288694The main negative for me with special duty is the fact that she is by a sire who’s top juveniles do not seem to train on
April 8, 2010 at 23:41 #288742She’s a sprinter, pure and simple.
April 9, 2010 at 17:47 #288964You don’t need to be able to speak French to know what they are saying on the message boards across the channel:
special duty vous etes sure qu elle tienne la distance des 1600 ? a newmarket ? j ai un doute
Not exactly the million dollar question…but a big one still…
April 9, 2010 at 17:48 #288966Ouais, c’est vrai.
Dans mon opinion, pas chance.
April 9, 2010 at 17:59 #288968Must say the 1mile Filly division looks worse that average at the moment.
Wouldn’t be surprised if a blanket covers first 5 home

I’ll try.
Well, I am not convinced that she isn’t a little special, I just think she may not be special over the extra 2f. Either way, the other 2 you refer to (Proportional and Naaqoos) seemed endemic of a more general weakness in 2008’s juvenile races. Not only did those 2 do nothing more of note, neither did Crowded House, Intense Focus, Serious Attitude (Special Duty’s predecessor as Cheveley winner), Zafisio, Delegator…
Only the wizard AOB got his juvenile winners Mastercraftsman and FAG to bring back Classics as 3yos. Gosden finally managed to get a G1 for Rainbow View, but not a Classic, and she was definitely mediocre compared to her 2yo-hype. Oh yes, and there was a small matter of John M Oxx’s Beresford winner…what was his name?
So I was going to conclude that 2008’s juvenile Classic hopes were generally disappointing, but I suppose that looking at it, the Irish ones weren’t. Nonetheless, the British Classic hopes were just as disappointing as the French ones. As for last season’s French juveniles, I think Special Duty, Siyouni and Rosanara may hold up against the rest of them, but we’ll have to see.
April 13, 2010 at 16:37 #290086Special Duty is a miler. Simple.
April 13, 2010 at 16:57 #290090Special Duty is going to be a sprinter.

You’ll see a totally different Special Duty with different race tactics I can assure you, last week was an excellent prep just letting her off the leash in front burning pure energy , the filly will come on a thousand times for that.
Drop her in 5-6th at Newmarket and when the wall breaks in front I wouldn’t like to be laying her as she’s ready to attack in the final 2f
I am on Muwakaba though
April 13, 2010 at 17:17 #290093I have a feeling this is Rainbow View all over again.
Head said she is a small compact filly.
Me thinks she won’t win
April 13, 2010 at 19:07 #290114Different type of filly though. Special Duty looks like being a specialist miler to me whereas Rainbow View was more of a ten furlong filly who didn’t have the speed over a mile, especially one run on fast ground.

I think the evocation of Rainbow View is with regard to the level of hype (and the chance of disappointment).
Surprised that Special Duty looks like a specialist miler to you. Even if she does get the mile, it looks like she could definitely do well over shorter as well.
April 13, 2010 at 19:22 #290121True, but what’s the point if she gets it?
