Don’t have anything to contribute to this thread, but the Imprudence is tomorrow, and I just wanted to comment on this . . .
LADY DARSHAAN
B f High Chaparral – Diary.
Won second of four starts last season beating Kings Of Leon a neck in conditions race at Windsor over five in late June. Improved considerably next two runs when three and a half lengths third of ten to Misheer in group two over six at Newmarket the following month. Best run on final appearance when three quarters of a length second to Hibaayeb in group one mile at Ascot late September and would have been closer but for being struck over the head near finish. Rated 108 and still open to plenty of improvement.
“She’s the best filly I’ve trained and will go for the One Thousand Guineas first time out and she’ll be entered for the Irish Guineas. She’s very clean-winded and I’ll probably give her a racecourse gallop or take her over to Richard Hannons’s – he’s very good to me. It’s possible that a mile and a quarter will be her best trip so the Pretty Polly comes into the picture. I think it would have been a short head either way when she was hit over the head in the Fillies Mile. She’s seriously good.”I’m getting used to trainers being cautious, and am aware that plans can change, but I got a bit exasperated when he sounded so authoritative and decisive about the horse going for the 1000 Guineas . . . but then says it might go for the Pretty Polly, which is on the same day . . .

I was confused when I read that because the Pretty Polly is not on the same day. Then I realized that I (and presumably Moore) am thinking of the Irish G1 (~June 26), while you are presumably thinking of the GB Listed race.
April 7, 2010 at 00:39 #288129Possibly Stan’s referring to the Pretty Polly Stakes, Group 1 in Ireland between the Epsom and Irish Oaks’?
Glad a thread’s been started on this, didn’t want to have to. I’ve got quite a few big winners in my book for this, with by far and away the largest being Sent From Heaven. I think she’s seriously good and having just got Steve Taplin’s 2yos of 2009 through, I notice that Sent From Heaven got a fantastic write-up by both Steve and Barry Hills.
Hibaayeb’s another of them, being ridiculously underrated by last year’s form. I realise she’s been beaten twice by Pollenator but at least now she’s learnt how to get her head in front.
Tabassum is probably the selection I’d choose if a gun were held to my head. She strikes me as the sort of horse that goes well fresh and gets tired after a couple of runs, a la last season. I think the Rockfel run was about a stone less than what she can actually do.
And also I’ve got Lady Darshaan, backed before the Fillies’ Mile. For whatever reason, I just don’t think she’ll be speedy enough.
April 7, 2010 at 07:15 #288146April 7, 2010 at 11:11 #288214Special Duty is nailed on for this, unless she tanks in the Imprudence I cannot see anything beating her.
April 7, 2010 at 11:28 #288226Special Duty and after the win i have no problem in getting praise in the 1st member here to mention her. When i asked Zarkava about Colnial and Special Duty.

Whachu talkin bout Willus?!
April 7, 2010 at 23:52 #288425Other than Special Duty (whom I feel very conflicted about, and just can’t decide what to think), I am keeping a beady eye on 5 fillies:
Rumoush – 5/8 sister to Ghanaati, won nicely, could sneak up on victory just like big sistah.
Principal Role/Aviate/Timepiece – Cecil just giving me a good feeling with these.
Sagacious – Ordinarily I may not feel this one on pedigree and record, except that Bolger is training her, so I can see it happening.I reckon it is worth betting that Juddmonte will win the 1000 Guineas, what with the number of live contenders KA has. 6 of them, all currently promising.

Happened with Proportional and Naaqoos last year too.
There’s something about late season French 2yos….
I thought this one would kick on though if i’m honest

Oh dear….
April 8, 2010 at 14:08 #288551From what I read somewhere, it seemed that Criquette was expecting Special Duty to get beat today, but she said beforehand that the horse will still be going on to N’ket.
Sorry, I don’t know where the original quote is.
April 8, 2010 at 14:12 #288553Found it. This will put the defeat in some context.
SPECIAL DUTY DEFEAT NO DISASTER
By Ashley Iveson, Press Association SportCriquette Head-Maarek will not be too disappointed if Special Duty is beaten in the Prix Imprudence at Maisons-Laffitte on Thursday.
The three-year-old currently occupies top spot in the ante-post betting for the StanJames.com 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 2, and Head-Maarek is looking forward to getting her season under way.
"She’s a fantastic filly so far, but from two to three (years old) horses can change and you never know until you run again," said the trainer.
"I’m very happy with her and she has done extremely well through the winter.
"She’s not a big filly and is still a little light framed, but she has been working well and has done everything I’ve asked of her so far.
"So far everything is en route for Thursday and en route for the Guineas.
"But if she was beaten on Thursday it won’t mean I won’t come for the Guineas.
"I got beaten with Hatoof and she won the Guineas, so Thursday’s race is a prep race and she will be ready for May 2."
Special Duty has yet to race beyond six furlongs in her four starts but her trainer feels she will stay the Rowley Mile next month.
"From the mother’s side she’s got a lot of stamina and we have worked her to relax a lot, so she’s much quieter and now she can’t wait behind and doesn’t pull any more, Head-Maarek told At The Races.
"I think she should run the mile and, from my point of view, you are able to win the Guineas with a fast horse."
Head-Maarek certainly knows what it takes to win the 1000 Guineas, having saddled Ma Biche (1983), Ravinella (1988) and Hatoof (1992) to Newmarket glory.
"If Special Duty compares to any horse it is Ravinella as she is light framed like her and has the turn of foot that Ravinella had," the trainer added.
"It is difficult to compare from different years but we know that least year she was the best, so lets keep our fingers crossed and hope that this year will be the same.
"For me, the ground will not be an excuse as good horses should act on any ground."

Like Zarkava or Divine Proportions?
Oh wait…
April 8, 2010 at 17:29 #288609It seems apparent that Criquette could tell beforehand that Special Duty may not win. The problem is determining whether (a) that is just part of her prep, and she is still the force she looked to be last season, or (b) Criquette Head has experienced the triumph of hope over reason, and the time has come to lay, lay, lay Special Duty.
As I said before, very conflicted about this horse.
April 8, 2010 at 17:59 #288624No suprise she lost today was down to the ground and her needing the run.At Newmarket where the ground will be fast i can see her bouncing back back. And i remember last year people putting Goldikova down she was poor on her 1st race and how many group ones she win last year. All this was a race for her she was not 100 percent but i expect her to be at Newmarket.

She will still come back from this but surely youre kicking yourself? 5/1 now looks better than the 5/2 available this morning
