I agree that star quality was lacking somewhat, outside of the Ricci pair.
I would rate Il Etait Temps below them. Maybe he would have won anyway but it looked to me like he benefited from receiving the best ride in the proverbial “race that fell apart”.
Majborough got a poor ride and may not be a Cheltenham horse.
L’Eau Du Sud and Quilixios chased a fast pace and are probably not that good anyway.
In the end, Libberty Hunter when ridden for a place was able to run on through beaten horses for a distant second place.
What did Il Etait Temps have to beat, especially the absence of Marine Nationale?
I had hoped L’Eau Du Sud would step up but I think it has to be accepted that his limitations have been exposed in Grade 1 company now.
