I’ve no idea what to expect, or what to cheer for. Part of me wants to see a return of the majestic Constitution Hill of 2022 and ’23, as he romps imperiously to a 10-length win.

But what would that mean? Would it set him up for a tilt at the Champion Hurdle, or for a campaign on the flat?

As Steeplechasing said a couple of pages back, I just don’t know why the horse is running tonight.

Even the most emphatic win won’t answer the jumping questions that would arise again at Cheltenham. Questions that might have been answered, at least partially, if he’d run in the Kingwell.

If he runs OK and wins but clearly has lost his old sparkle, do they campaign him on the flat anyway?

Part of me wouldn’t mind him getting beat, if only so he retires safe and sound and we can remember his superlative days and wonder for ever what else might have been.
