February 20, 2026 at 17:16 #1755327An all weather flat race doesn’t tell us anything about his hurdling ability.
That much should be obvious.

February 20, 2026 at 18:00 #1755339I’ve no idea what to expect, or what to cheer for. Part of me wants to see a return of the majestic Constitution Hill of 2022 and ’23, as he romps imperiously to a 10-length win.
But what would that mean? Would it set him up for a tilt at the Champion Hurdle, or for a campaign on the flat?
As Steeplechasing said a couple of pages back, I just don’t know why the horse is running tonight.
Even the most emphatic win won’t answer the jumping questions that would arise again at Cheltenham. Questions that might have been answered, at least partially, if he’d run in the Kingwell.
If he runs OK and wins but clearly has lost his old sparkle, do they campaign him on the flat anyway?
Part of me wouldn’t mind him getting beat, if only so he retires safe and sound and we can remember his superlative days and wonder for ever what else might have been.
February 20, 2026 at 18:03 #1755340He isn’t the horse of 22/23 , question is does he still want to be a racehorse
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026

Agree completely with this, Broadsword. I said after his Newcastle fall that he should be retired there and then – he can’t jump any more and he’s too old to be top class on the flat. As you rightly said, even an authoritative success this evening wouldn’t give any indication as to whether or not he can still jump.

It’d definitely be white if Nathan and RTB got close enough.
February 20, 2026 at 18:08 #1755345Packetofbiscuits won the second race. Out there somewhere Chezza is tucking into some chocolate hobnobs and probably not worrying too much about his bet on Constitution Hill never to win another champion hurdle.
February 20, 2026 at 18:16 #1755346Great comment there Green..
February 20, 2026 at 18:23 #1755347We know however the day he collects that bet they’ll be tears in eyes …
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
