Just watched the 5-30 at Limerick the favorite clearly broke down turning for home and was pulled up injured. He had the audacity to say it was disappointing and never showed. What the hell does he watch or is he blind folded. What a joke

I really cannot see why he gets so much work for both ATR and C4, i’ve never known one pundit get such exposure, seems a nice enough guy but his knowledge is debatable ( gives a 9/2 shot a good e/w chance) and he has a rather annoying dronal
delivery but i guess he ticks all the boxes for those that matter.

gets an awful lot of stick on the betfair forum as he’s a cliche spouting machine, but in that respect is he much worse than most commentators? Most of them are gravy trainers.

I’m continually amazed that he gets so much work on Channel 4 especially during the flat season.

He must have been a professional jockey for about 10-20 years. Must have rode around every racetrack in the country, won the biggest races any NH rider can win, yet he brings none of that insight to his punditing. There must be something useful he can add to how to win at certain tracks/conditions/where to go clear/where to sit etc.
Instead all we get is garbage – the 1/50 fav is a nice horse, the winning rider is the hardest worker in the weighing room, the winning trainer is the hardest working trainer in the game, or this is the sort of race where you want to get to the winning line before any of the other runners.

Mick was talking pure crap after the Eclipse, telling viewers that Hawkbill was going to be even better when he gets good ground.

Two minutes later Charlie Appleby tells us that the horse needs juice in the ground to be at his best.

He doesn’t have a scooby about Flat racing.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

It’s all true! Amazing to see that a few sensible Twitter judges see Mick Fitz as a “must-sign” for ITV Racing too! There’s no accounting for taste.

As an experiment I’d like to see a bit more of McCoy on TV. He is very dour and would get criticism for his delivery, but I suspect he would not hold back if he saw a jockey misjudge a ride. Unless the horse was owned by JP or trained by one of his old bosses…

I think what you need with commentators who say something a bit different, who stand out from the pack.

Who might make some sort of insight about how this horse has a poor record in big fields, goes well on courses with an uphill finish, or something like that.

I know he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but Nick Mordin, the mad professor would have made interesting tv. Just the sort of crazy theories that are thought provoking and get you thinking.

Fitzgerald and his ilk are the opposite of thought provoking.

For me Judge, the only standout guy who is 100% genuine is Matt Chapman who many do not like but i think he is a superb entertainer who is not scared of telling it like it is whether that upsets someone or not.

Agreed about Chapman, in the sport of racing I can’t think of any other pundits who say what they’re really thinking as much as he does, he’s also not afraid to take the piss out of himself.
