so it was
And i think the mares name was ‘what a question’
indeed it wasn’t the most well received ruling in Ireland
Strange that Cahervillahow, although not really a top class horse, was the flagship 3 miler for ireland for that generation. I used to love the owners silks – pink with red hearts, nice novelty without being too gimicky. She had another good 3mile mare who’s name escapes me now
How our standards have increased since then and now expect or look for a viable gold cup contender
This may sound a daft question about a Gold Cup winner, but is he sure to stay the trip?
From what I remember Ginger I think he was pulling Geraghty for quite a bit round cheltenham in the gold cup so i’m not sure if he settled too well that day. I guess he didnt need to anyway as he was far better then anything on the day – all be it a poor renewal.
I would forgive his last king george as it was the race that he incurre the injury and its hard to say when he started to feel pain up the home straight.I’m sure it contributed to the finish tho as he is a far better horse then monkerhostin.
Anyway great to see him back…and it would be a thrill to see the himself, kauto, denman and exotic coming down the hill to third last in the gc
Cheers guys!
Ya i think I might join up or go along to the Cheltenham preview night at least. 10quid isn’t gonna break the bank
Not sure if this has been mentioned but cahervillahow’s disqualification in the whitbread gold cup was quite controversial at the time – think docklands express was awarded the victory
A real good but someways unlucky servant for Mouse Morris, he was beaten a short head in the irish national 3 weeks before the above invident and was also second in the national that never was in 1993
More recent ones include:
Cardinal Hill – Noel Meade novice who fell at the 2nd last in the supreme novice hurdle
Fasliyev
Iktitaf
Harcon – Great big chaser for Jim Dreaper who I don’t believe raced again after being beaten by Dubacilla in the Sun Alliance. That race was a billed as a head to head between him and Barton.
Horatio Nelson – Controversial ending for some but sad that we never got to see how good he might have been
Missed That – A horse that I thought could possibly develop into a Gold Cup horse, particularily after his final win of the season at punchestown. Sadly never was killed early last seasonIf we are going to mention Teofilio then Holy Roman Emperor probably deserves a mention aswell – probably wouldn’t have improved as much from 2 to 3 as Teofilio had more room for development but was still a very good horse
Agree that Jair Du Cochet was a very talented and exciting individual
SDM – After Christmas
WOA – In light work but could struggle to be back in time for February even
Kicking King – Conditions hurdle on New Years eveOf the 3 above I think that only kicking King could challenge the likes of Denman, Kauto Star and Exotic Dancer, but as pointed out it is unlikely he will come back as good as what he was
Just to reiterate the comments above – it was a fantastic performance by Denman. Really enthusiastic horse with the attitude to match his physical ability
