Swindon Wilts.Do you have such a thing as a good-soft to soft?
I’m afraid not, the link below is a RAR file 15.6MB covering every meeting in England/Ireland going back to 2001,
click the download button if you are interested, this file is updated daily.https://drive.google.com/file/d/12TLPxTnBq9S8fLJOkW0haFh8H7yN3HEj/view?usp=drive_link
Being a speed handicapper I do not take any notice of the official going descriptions, I have had going descriptions as soft turning out to be good to firm, here are my Cheltenham figures.
Mike.
With regards to the French going descriptions and race distances returned you take both with a big pinch of salt.
Have you never wondered why all the race distances are precise i.e 5f is 5f exactly on every racecourse, the French racecourses only deal in half-furlong increments? you won’t see 5F60yds for example.
I spent ages working on the French standard times for the class 1,2 and 3 racecourses, and it took me a while before I clicked there was something a bit dodgy about the official race distances, but hey live and learn.
These days I only work on Irish and British racing, at least the BHA publishes the rail movements, when the Irish finally get around to measuring their racecourse distances, Dave Edwards did mention to me recently that it will happen “sometime this year”, I will believe that when I see it.

I have a .RAR file with the going allowances for every meeting, you unpack it with WinRaR, WinZip or the free utility 7-Zip.

Things got that bad for me I even started to compile speed figure for Hong Kong just to keep my hand in.
Comparing the HK speed figures to the UK just add on 20lbs to the figures due to the difference in their handicap system, any horse with a speed figure over 50+ (UK70) is above average.
I backtrack every day and add meetings as I go.

I look forward to when the honest racing starts again…

Before the AW starting in 1991 the flat yards used to shut up shop for 4 months, there was the occasional foray to places like Gagnes-sur-Mer (FR) and everybody seemed to manage OK, nobody is allowed to go fishing at this moment in time, I remember when you had to wait until June 16th to wet a line.
There is a very simple solution to the 2020 flat Turf season, extend it to Dec 31st.
I’m spending my self Isolation putting together 3D chess games on my YouTube channel.

December 29, 2019 at 09:26 in reply to: Was this almost the worst King George Chase in the past three decades? #1478449With ref to the clock (my speed figures), Clan Des Obeaux last year when winning the King George earned a speed figure of 136 this year he earned a figure of 130 (-6lbs).
The main problem people have when assessing the race was the performance of lostintranslation who in my book is nothing more than a hype horse (shock/horror), whose best speed figure to date is a measly 125.

He is going to get the sack, his ride yesterday on Champ was bad enough nearly running out, but his ride today on Buveur D’Air was so bad it is the stuff of nightmares, he is definitely passed his sell-buy date.
Mike.
Kinross debut speed figure of 62 was very impressive.
There is one 2yo that I am waiting to see run again and that is Roger Varian’s Pierre Lapin, so good do I think that this horse will be in time I will put him up as a group 1 prospect.
Roger Varian didn’t really want to run him at Newbury because he is still on the weak side, his speed figure of 70 certainly made me sit up and take notice.

On my speed figures, at the Curragh yesterday Pinatubo earned a figure of 94, Frankel as a 2yo was 1lb better at 95
The Interesting thing for me was the RPR of 128 awarded to Pinatubo, this equals the 128 RPR awarded to Kingman as a 3yo, for the record, Kingman earned the highest debut speed figure of 85 as a 2yo.
Mike.
Mike, i notice you don’t have figures for the debut wins of Cape Palace & Palace Pier, any figs for those?
There is a known bug in excel where some lines go out of sync when you sort which I had noticed recently, it’s very strange that the 2 horses you mentioned were trained by John Gosden!
Cape Palace – 48
Palace Pier – 54Mike.
Cherokee Trail was very impressive, and he’ll surely develop into a smart horse.
On the speed figure front, Cherokee Trail earned a figure of 45 with Ropey Guest a pitiful figure of 37.

Can’t believe Ropey Guest made in there BB, pleased with that.
He’s one I’m really looking forward to next year.I actually posted on another forum about this horse, complaining that this is a horse that runs in group races and hasn’t even won a race, not even a maiden.
I see that he entered on Saturday, 28 September 2019 – 1:50 (Early closer) at Newmarket Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2) (1m), do you think that the connections think a lot about this horse and maybe might be aiming a little too high, the old adage used to be, win your maiden first.
Mike.
Oh no, not another thread about the use of the whip, this subject has been flogged to death.
Can you imagine what would have happened if the BHA and heath and safely were about during Roman time, Judah Ben Hur would have been called before the stewards for overuse of the whip and dangerous riding, and given a thousand-year ban.
Mike.
