Ben Pauling…
A very happy retirement to this absolute star A HARE BREATH. Thank you for the great memories and a huge thank you to his owner Valda and the Embiricos family for this very special horse. Enjoy your happy retirement at home. You’ll be missed by us all but you will shine in what ever you do next
I have to say I do not like the way he walks behind, skip to 2 mins in the video

Well Spotted TheGun,
Leopardstown latest: The Live Tipster
That was impressive from Sir Erec.He jumped slickly on the way to that success and showed a smart turn of speed to settle the issue after the last.
The one note of caution is that he had the run of the race from the front and everything went his way, but he couldn’t have done it any easier and will now be right at the head of the market for the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham next month.
Owned by J P Mc Manus, be interesting to see which stud he ends up in ?

Hi Louise and Mark, yes I will let you know which I choose, I won’t reveal the other mares sire at the moment it’s too easy to find the mare with 8 winners and a rating of 90, and I would not want some one else trying to nab her before me. I wish I could afford both Louise but sadly not.
Hi Louise, yes they are both smashing mares, good temperaments and really fill the eye, decisions decisions
Hi Louise, yes looking at a couple for this season coming, one mare won 8 times over a mile on the flat but has plenty of stamina in her page, rated 90 the other a lovely bred mare by Kalanisi and has a page to die for but never raced, just wondered if anyone had the statistics
I wonder if anyone can help, I am looking for statistics if anyone has them, the question I have is it better to breed from a mare, that has previous National Hunt form, even though it may be poorish, or take a chance on a mare that is super bred, but never raced in her career? The statistics I suppose what I am looking for is how many national Hunt winners have come from previously raced mares Vs unraced mares ??
Yes and it`s showing all over Social media, this is just wrong in every way, the violence I mean, someone needs to get a grip

From the racing post this morning
“The BHA, which has so far been notified of 226 wind operations, on Thursday revealed that failure to comply with the new instruction will result in trainers being dealt with on a penalty scale that ranges from a £290 fine to a referral to its London headquarters.Be interesting to get that list and look at the breeding?
Tommy, Snap. I have been waiting for Delirant to appear, looked a very smart horse in France, I wonder what Pipe is doing with him. I am also waiting for Damalisque, he had entries in Ireland over the Xmas period but never appeared, They are both owned by J P McManus, is the a plot going on?
I totally agree Louise, and I think I have bred the next Denham (joking of course) I do try with my mares to diversify as much as you can these days, but it’s very difficult I have to say.
Well the list of sires above really doesn’t come as any surprise, they are exactly the sires that the market wants to buy their progeny from at the sales, so very very pricey to buy, along with probably along with another 20 up and coming sires.
One thing that is missing in the thread, so far it is not just about the stallion,s the mare plays a big role as well. Breeding horses is not an exact science, as much as statistics may help, you will never find the “Holy Grail” of matingHow do you know, if you have a mare you have of good size that had won say 3 chases, then crossed with best proven NH sire there is, that it is going to produce a lovely big colt/fill,y and grow to the the size of Denman, answer is, you don’t, if the foal is straight at birth and of either sex, and the broodmare is of good nature , then you think you have won the lottery. If by chance it made 16 hands and travelled like a bullet, won the champion hurdle I would be doing somersaults and probably be having palpitations…..what a dream to have, so in my view breeding a winning selling hurdler would still please me…
Kauto Star: No signs of Northern Dancer and his sire Village Star was 16 years old when he covered Kauto Relka
Master Minded: No Northern Dancer and Nikos sired him at the age of 21.
Denman: No Northern Dancer, his “daddy” Presenting was 7 when he covered Polly Puttens.
Vautour: No Northern Dancer and Robin Des Champs was 21 when he sired him.
Best Mate: No Northern Dancer and sired when Un Desperado was 11.Thanks for that ERL
As you know throughout this thread I have thought Nearco is the stallion that is the main contributor, now his son Nasrullah sire of Neartic who in turn sire of Northern Dancer, Nasrullah is all over the horses you have named
Kauto Star….Nasrullah on both sides
Master Minded…Nasrullah both sides
Denman……..Nasrullah both sides
Vautour…….Nasrullah again
Best Mate Nasrullah againI dont really agree with the sires age being a contributor to soundness, maybe the stallions just got better mares as they got older, once they had proved themselves as good stallions
Well that’s my thoughts for what they are worth, probably a load of tosh that should be ignored…..
I see Sandmason had another winner this afternoon
1st Black Op 1/3F
Sandmason – Afar Story (IRE) (Desert Story (IRE))
Breeder P Rothwell
Owner R S BrookhouseLouise have you seen Darsi over in Ireland I hear he is a really good looker and doesnt seem a bad price for a French Derby winner ?
This is also interesting, (I have to say this analysis was not done by me)

So you would be pretty stumped to find a NH sire without Northern Dancer would you not????
Looks like Coolmore are looking for even more money from their NH stallions
FLEMENSFIRTH tops the list of published stud fees for the 15 stallions standing under the Coolmore National Hunt banner in 2018.
Just turned 26, Flemensfirth has had his fee raised from €12,000 to €15,000 for the new season at The Beeches Stud in Lismore, Co Waterford. There are also increases for Soldier Of Fortune (from €5,000 to €8,000) and Mahler (€5,000 to €5,500) at the Beeches.
At Grange Stud in Fermoy both Getaway (€5,500 to €7,500) and Milan (€7,500 to €8,000) are on the way up, while Walk In The Park remains private.
Of the four stallions standing at Castlehyde Stud in Fermoy, Westerner (€5,000 to €6,000) is the only one whose fee has gone up. The drop in fee for Yeats (from €6,500 to €5,000) will surprise some breeders following the recent Grade 1 win for his daughter Shattered Love.
As regards statistics for the festivals, and the debate on Northern Dancer in the pedigree, it would be interesting to see how many of the first 3 home in each race has Northern Dancer in the first 5 of the the sire line and in the dam line is that possible Titus
