That’s your opinion Ham,I have mine.
Its boring.Boring?
Its about as interesting as watching paint dry.For the first time ever I have not bothered watching hardly any of it,letting alone putting money on it.
If Mullins & his rich owners continue the way they are going in 20 years time there will be no Cheltenham,no NH racing in the UK.
Like the Olympics where the US win all the medals in everything or the World Cup where one team wins every match 10 nil.Talk about killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
September 15, 2014 at 19:58 in reply to: Ruk coverage of Royal Ascot ……. what do we think ?? #490334edinahib I cannot abide ATR I find Chapman the biggest turn off in racing, even worse than Mccririck.I agree though that outside of Lydia Hislop/Steve Mellish & a few notable others that RUK’s coverage has got worse. Is there a more boring sounding pundit on any sport than David Cleary?
August 30, 2013 at 19:50 in reply to: Trying to ‘attract’ new punters to racing is a waste of time #449883People who are interested in racing, but don’t bet on it are just WEIRD. It’s like going to a football match and cheering on The Draw or the referee.

I once went to a game at Stevenage when they were a non league side and three guys behind me had come to see the referee. They applauded his correct decisions even.Weird.
I do subscribe to Racing UK.They are ok when they have their first team out but some of the lesser presenters/pundits are awful.Where do they get them from.I cannot stand Peter Naughton, nor David Cleary(can’t he talk without waving his hands about) Andy Richmond or John O ‘Connell.I am paying for this ad I expect better.
Racing UK showed all the horses in the paddock beforehand, gave us several interviews, showed the sp’s and at least two run throughs of the 2000 Guineas with analysis.Thats why I subscribe.
I have watched C4 racing on occassion when at relatives houses. It was’nt very good before. It is dreadful now.Totally agree Mark TT,I think he is a very mediocre trainer and a lot of the top horses he has had have’nt stayed at the top for long unlike Nicholls,Henderson et al.I also think Thornton has lost it,he would do much better if Wayne Hutchinson was No1.
January 1, 2013 at 20:21 in reply to: RSPCA & Grant Kill Thousands of Healthy Animals every year #424976Firstly I think if they take on the Muslim community over halal meat, they will literally bite off more than they can chew as they are more vociferous and numerous than racing supporters and will open a political can of worms, secondly I echo what was said over rehoming cats etc.I found them to be aloof and arrogant and I prefer to deal with local animal charities or the Cats Protection League.
Racing should call Grants bluff, tell him to put up or shut up and try and bring a prosecution.Racing has enough rich and eminent lawyers in the Sport that I think the RSPCA would be defeated.I cannot see Smad Place going novice chasing,he is only five now,so has time on his side, although Big bucks is an awesome horse
someone has to challenge him and for Smad Place to get so close when five yr olds have an awful record in the World/Stayers hurdle was a fabulous effort.I am afraid I found Mr Mckenzies commentaries so poor on Saturday I watched all of the racing there after the John Smiths Cup with the volume off.Too Loud,Too inaccurate and a distraction from the racing itself.
I think one thing that would make a difference to the overuse of the whip.Any jockey guilty of whip abuse should lose their prize money, and have their name omitted from the record books. Thus offenders i high profile races like the national would have to think twice before overusing the whip.If the whip was totally banned this lifelong racing fan would walk away.If you ban the whip it would be appeasement to the animal rights mob.Once the whip was banned they would not rest until all racing was banned. Those on here calling for a total whip ban, should find themselves another sport their morals find more acceptable.
I have already suggested to the BHA one solution to the question of overuse of the whip, which is the thing that offends me.I can accept a horse being struck with the whip in the final stages of a race but not being ‘thrashed’.I suggested that a jockey guilty of whip abuse loses all prize money for that race as well as a ban. This would mean the horse keeps the race and it’s name in the record books, the owner and stable staff keep their share of the prize money, but the jockey loses his which would then go into a fund to help with the welfare aspects of the sport.Another possible answer would be to ban jockeys using the whip on the run in in NH races.
Surely it is Sandown who would be put out if Newbury race this Friday.
