    Hi Luke,

DO I REMEMBER PROKOFIEV!!?? (must just compose myself a bit here:laugh:) but I was at that Aintree meeting and yes did see Prokofiev and remember the hoo-haa afterwards.  As far as I was concerned this simply became one to keep a serious eye on (the purpose of this thread as it happens).  I was sure this horse was being lined up for a tilt at the Festival at a serious price, and further runs seemed to prove this, but I backed it a couple of times anyway to no avail.  So…………I gave up on it, the Festival didn’t happen anyway and the next time it ran (Newcastle I think) it was never headed and trotted in at 33/1 AAAARRRGGGHHH – not that I’m bitter or anything:crying:

I’m trying to work out how you got your nickname Keith:biggrin: !! and sorry you found a lot of this thread :puke: -making.  I’m not entirely at odds with the gist of some of what you were saying but am always wary of those who go around propounding the "you’re all hypocrites but me I’m not" line.  I don’t think the people who have expressed sadness over the death of Valiramix are being such, nor that they don’t care if they see an unconsidered 150/1 shot hit the deck with the same result.  It is a difficult one and RichK is right that it just ain’t a black-and-white issue.  I love jump racing, am not overjoyed to see horses killed or seriously injured, but accept it as part and parcel.  For this reason I, like many others, try not to be sentimental about horses.  If you’re indifferent I think fair enough, far better that than being one of the sickos who cheers falls if it gives their selection a squeak.  As with most things perhaps balance is best: no jump racing would to me be as unacceptable as having horses still jumping 8foot brick walls at Aintree!!

Personally I found the great cheer for pulled-up Isty very heartwarming – when you consider that from a morning 3/1 (with Valiramix fav at the time) he was suddenly backed into 2/1 fav there must have been some fair wads of cash riding on him.  It showed people’s better nature and that racegoers don’t only react through their pockets!

Desperately sad about Valiramix and for the Pipe team, who have now lost two exceptional horses at the Festival recently.  We remember Gloria Victis Dan so lets hope Valiramix isn’t forgotten either.

Finally, hats off to Hors La Loi III and esp Dean Gallagher – their day after all.
