The virtual bank starts at 200pts.

In races of 8 or more runners, top two rated horses in each race are bet to level stakes.

In races of 7 or less runners, the top rated horse is the bet.
(total bet per race = 5% of bank)

In the event of two or more horses being equal rated, the one with the lowest RP tissue is the bet.

In the event of them being the same odds in the RP, half stake on each is the bet.

Where the odds are 9/1 or higher, the bet is E/W.

    Tomorrows bets: 28/02/03

    315 Newbury -
10pts win – Abalvino w2/1

    350 Newbury -
5pts win – Pharpost 2nd 10/3
5pts win – Dark Room 3rd

    410 Doncaster -
2.5pts E/W – Baby Gee 2nd 14/1
2.5pts E/W – Right N/R

    Total Stake = 25pts
Returns =  41.25pts
Profit/Loss to date = +16.25pts
ROI to date (£25) = 165%

    See how we do …
I’m paper trading this for myself, so I might as well share my results with everyone here :)
It’s nice to see the RP taking up the story. Maybe something will be done to protect the welfare of retired racehourses (talented AND not quite so) in the future. Good press coverage will do wonders for the cause. I happen to think it’s a bloody good cause …

JF was well up to listed class in his time. Great horse who deserves better
It angers me to see things like this. A racehorse is only a racehorse while they are on the track. When they retire, they might as well have spent their life as a hack by the look of it. They might even be treat better by private owners!

I hope he gets the better life he deserves. Give him my best wishes Pengamon :)

We all (I think) have one horse that we love watching in any given year’s racing. For me Dubai Millenium was one. Shergar was another. And Triptych.
In NH circles, watching Dessie was an event in itself. I could name many.

And there are horses that we have a kind of attachment to.

It’s different altogether to watching a class act at work. Gloria Victis was one I was thoroughly attached to. Bacchanal was another. I loved watching this horse at work and Saturday was a sad, sad day for me. ‘Gloria’ coming to grief brought a tear to my eye. And so to did Bachannal. There aren’t many gee gees that make an impact like that on me.

RIP Bachannal. Good ol’ boy :(

I’ll bet tha connections are totally gutted. I have no problems with the way the horse was campaigned. He was treat with respect and was lightly raced for one as talanted. The horse was without a doubt a flagship for the stable and, I would guess, was treat as such. If you have a star such as Bachannal, you owe it to the horse to give him the chance to shine with the greats of the game. It’s what he did best. I don’t blame anyone for going for the Gold Cup. With a horse that talanted, you have to look at that option. It just went wrong on the day.

I am of the opinion that the same accident could have happenned in a hurdle race, or even a flat race, and no-one is at blame. Just one of those things …

My point was mainly that the horse had a better chance of winning the staying hurdle than the gold cup.

zome, I also couldn’t figure out why on earth they were persevering with chases, when the horse was obviously a lot better over the flaps. Bacchanel was unbackable for me as I am fully aware he is better at hurdling. So why aim him at a chase? I don’t understand it.

It sounds like an excuse to water down what we have and rake in more on admission fees. Cheltenham management would be doubtful to decrease admission prices for the day/s that lose a championship race as a result of this. It stinks of profiteering to me, why make a buck when you can make two?

The current format is perfect. I personally would replace the handicap hurdle on Gold Cup day with the cross country race and leave the rest as it is. Some foreign competition might make the mouth water a little more than the 28 runner lottery that we have at the moment at 4.50 on Cup day. I normally aim to win before the h’cap h’dle and beat the rush at about 4.30 when I go to the festival.

The bumper does serve a purpose and should stay. But it is the last on the card traditionally, and should stay there.

Yep, we’ll call him ‘Scoop’ from now on LOL Well done Wallace :)
I suspected TRC would go down the tubes as soon as I heard they had lost the Irish racing. It unfortunately just had to be. Unfortunate indeed, but market forces don’t have boundries.

    It’s official …
Afternoon coverage gone from tomorrow
PM (USA) coverage gone from 31/01/03

Can ATR please start showing the US coverage in 16:9 format now!
The 4:3 picture on a 16:9 screen is bloody annoying LOL
At least TRNI show it in 16:9 ratio.

Without Irish racing, they were always going to be a spent force. But i’m against a subscription for ATR. £20pm may not be a lot for some, but on top of the £35pm Sky already charge, it’s a substantial increase. Now if they included it as part of the Sky Sports package that would be another matter.

"… where else can you get six hours of top class entertainment for £40?"

Hmmmm, at every other racetrack in the UK maybe?
And since when did Ayr start staging 12 races on a card? Last time I looked, a racing day lasted about 4hrs. Slight exageration I think. And that £40 probably doesn’t include the extortionate prices charged by Letherby & Christopher either, does it?

Not good at all. Doesn’t bode well for publicising racing in a good light, do it?

Actually, I would like to know if there is a track in the uk that charges more than this (excluding Festival, Royal Ascot and Grand National).

It’s probably cheaper to watch the 2000 Guineas/Cambridgeshire at HQ now than the Ayr Gold Cup. Bit of a joke really.

If it were not for the owners, there would be no racing. They should treat you like you mean something.
Write to the RP, or even e-mail ATR. I’m sure they would address the issue.

I have come to the conclusion (from experience of several visits to Prestbury Park) that they consider themselves a little higher up the ladder at Cheltenham than at other ‘layman’ tracks. Herd ’em in, charge as much as you can get away with, and provide minimal amenities for the day tripper.
There will come a time when I say "sod the Festival, it’s less hassle to stay at home and watch ATR". Ticket prices (you can’t even buy tickets on the gate in March now) have rocketed in the last few years, and it now costs a score to get into the Fosters enclosure. Tout prices are normally around 50% higher. And there are loads of touted tickets available, contrary to what Cheltenham say. Are they really catering for the punter, or just for the Bollinger and Moet brigade?
