I’d have loved Flemenstar to have a go at SS in this.
Has anyone actually looked at Flemenstar’s form in 2 mile chases, he has beaten nothing. On all known form he couldn’t beat Sizing Europe, who is the only Irish trained chaser with even a hope in hell of getting anywhere near SS over 2 miles.
Gold Cup
Bobs Worth 2pt win 3/1 Paddy PowerQueen Mother Champion Chase
Sprinter Sacre 2 pt win 1/2 BoylessportDoes anybody think flemenstar will stay at 2miles or step if he stays at 2mile do you think he ll trouble sprinter sacre? Can never get the image of al ferof destroying spirt son cue card and sprinter sacre up the hill in the supreme novice 2011 surely proves sprinter sacre is not unbeatable. Unlucky to blunder in the Arkle think he ll be a revelation this season gold cup winner? Maybea big price up for offer
Sprinter Sacre had a wind operation after the Supreme Novices, which I think you would agree seems to have helped. He also made a collosal error at the last, probably due to his breathing problems. On top of this, he has always been aimed at chasing and was not even the first pick of Barry Geraghty in the Supreme Novices. To say that Al Ferof would have been anywhere near Sprinter Sacre in the Arkle (had he not made the blunder), is ridiculous and chasing is all about jumping anyway.
Al Ferof will certainly be suited by further, as you can get away with mistakes over 3 miles and still come back. It’s a shame he misses the Gold Cup this year, as he would have been an interesting contender.
PS. If you have seen a better jumper than Sprinter Sacre, in the history of National Hunt racing, I would like to watch them, as they must be a sight to behold.
Forgot to mention Menorah for this race. What if he doesn’t make any serious errors? I know that’s a big what if, but with a clear round he will be there at the sharp end.
Hi Printers. Cue Card has not been entered in the Gold Cup so will either be the Ryanair or Champion chase for him
Hi to you too. I posted that and then saw the Gold Cup entries straight afterwards. I think the Ryanair is the most likely, but you never know. I can’t see Sprinter Sacre being beaten, but Cue Card would have as good a chance as any of the others.
The Ryanair is going to be one hell of a race. I wonder if one day it will be the Blue Riband Chase? For me the Queen Mother is tops, as I like to see these great horses jump with speed and precision. Mistakes aren’t punished in the Gold Cup, not the way they are in the Queen Mother.
This race is looking as if it’s going to be the most competitive of the festival. Could be Sizing Europe, First Lt, Finians Rainbow, Cue Card and Flemenstar.
This race really does depend on the going. If it’s soft I think Long Run will have a great chance of success, although Bobs Worths does stand out, especially at Cheltenham. If the going is good, I wouldn’t rule out Cue Card, especially at the prices being quoted at the moment. It has to be said that his likely engagement will be the Ryanair though. The Ryanair could end up as the most hotly contested race at the festival, the way it’s going, what with the non staying stayers and SS swervers.
I have backed two horses for this race, Jezki a few months ago and Cause of Causes, just this week @ 41/1 on Betfair. I think Jezki is class and will take a lot of beating and the reason for Cause of Causes is the way he finishes his races. With soft ground and an uphill finish, he could just get up on the line.
I would have to say Sprinter Sacre in the Tingle Creek, they tried to destroy him and only made him stronger.
I agree that Sprinter Sacre is already an all time great. I was at Sandown Park for the Tingle Creek and he was extremely impressive. He jumps straight, can go at any pace, doesn’t make serious mistakes and always lands running.
Almost as impressive as his ability though, is his looks and the way he moves. I watched as he left the parade ring and thought to myself, how good does this horse look? He actually looked like he was taking part in a dressage event. If you can, go and see this horse in the flesh. Television doesn’t do him justice.
I do feel it is going to be hard for him to surpass Arkle in the minds of the racing fraternity, simply because all the main rivals are avoiding him. Fair play to Paul Nicholls though, for having a go.
Could he do the unthinkable? Win the Queen Mother on the Wednesday and the Gold Cup on the Friday. Well, not this year, as he still doesn’t settle well enough to win a Gold Cup. I think he is still improving and should he settle better next year, it could be possible. Wouldn’t it be great to see him attempt it. 20 lengths clear with three to jump and still on the bridle, could they catch him? Maybe, but we won’t know unless it happens. Come on Nicky, make him the undisputed champ.
