Wonderful. I’m super impressed with that. I’d have been happy as a pig in proverbial if I had that setup now, nevermind as a child!

What are the fences made of? I used to race my matchbox cars (all named after horses I’d seen on the telly) over green painted strips of loft insulation that my dad fashioned into National fences.

Scratchings looking like (taken from a Facebook page)…

    Envoi Allen
    Inothewayurthinkin
    Gentlemansgame
    Monty’s Star
    The Real Whacker
    Galvin
    Trelawne
    Limerick Lace
    Pinkerton
    Git Maker
    Gericault Roque

That guarantees runs for all three entries on 10-7; so Meetingofthewaters, Velvet Elvis and Minella Drama.

Huntington and Ascot were the first courses that came to mind. Could add it to the Peterborough Chase card and move it back to Boxing Day?

If they want to be really radical; might they consider Windsor?

Pineau De Re, Tiger Roll (2019) and Noble Yeats all had three week gaps between their Cheltenham runs and National wins, so it isn’t impossible for any of last week’s runners to come here and run a big race.

I’ve committed to six now and hope to leave it at that… unless one of my many other fancies is available at 100/1 seven places on the day

    Bravemansgame
    Gentlemansgame
    Hewick
    Iroko
    L’Homme Presse
    Vanillier

Apple Away for me. Stable had a good week and he’s been enjoying himself more the further he goes.

Not guaranteed to come here after a tough race today, but got to have a go each way on Gentlemansgame while the big price remains.

If this week has taught us anything is that no favourite is safe and jumping is the name of the game. Galopin Des Champs is a great champion and ought to win, but then so should have so many other odds on shots this week. And Inothewayurthinkin is a pretty poor jumper, easily the worst in the field.

Let’s face it there are holes to pick in the lot of them behind the favourite, but The Real Whacker has looked a renewed force this season with conditions to suit, course form to fall back on and doesn’t have that much to find on ratings to land a place. Well worth a go for each way fun.

When did it become the norm for jockeys to circle in a “bunch” and so far away from the tape?

Standing starts, or even walking in starts didn’t seem like an issue 10/15 years ago. But in recent years they’ve been doing a horrible bunched up circle thing that without fail results in those wanting a position down the inner jig jogging as to not lose their position when they whip round to face the starter. Is it an Irish thing?

Also circling so far away from the starter is the most ridiculous thing, no wonder the tapes get rushed. More distance = more speed. These arguments about the parades being bad for the horses are completely undone by the riders circling around so far from the start that they are literally in front of the stands.

I remember them doing this ridiculous bunched circle routine beyond the water jump before “walking in” for the 2023 Grand National. Naturally because they had to navigate a bend they were completely congested down the inner as they set off. We all know what happened next.

A quick fix for now would be to get them circling closer to the actual start and get them circling using the width of the track.

I get frustrated with false starts as much as the next person, but I’ve found recently that the discipline of the jockeys is just as much if not more to blame than the the starter himself.

One of my bigger fancies of the week is Johnnywho in this. Just looks laid out for it.

Another race I can’t get to grips with. I’ve had a couple small go’s on Ginnys Destiny and Gemirande. Condition should suit the pair and the former could be chucked in on his best form.

Going with Home By The Lee to make it fourth(?) time lucky. Looks much less complicated this season.

Throwing a couple darts at Protektorat and Djelo. Two very likable types who won’t be inconvenienced by what is likely to be a fierce pace.

One of the most intriguing races of the week.

Springwell Bay isn’t short of class and should be going close here.

Loads of old favourites I could get stuck into, but I don’t want to go mad, so I’ll stick with the one and hope to see good runs from my old friends.

I’ve enjoyed Daryl Jacob’s contributions today and yesterday. Didn’t have him down for TV work when he retired, but he’s been good.
