Oh, it is so, so late
and this darkened hour
is the outpost of the soul itself
Not one hour had passed
between tea and the pulling of the curtain
as these deep and dark knights
Draw deep and commence their cyclic commandments
Sleep is for the weak
and there will be a disco on Saturday
whether you want it or not
Man up, be brave
Nothing is more assured
than D’eath
It may be a hover or a more traditional type of tool
but it will sythe us down the same
Embrace it
Welcome it
Laugh in the face of of it
Hide from it, run from it even
Although the odds of 7/4 against look meagre
Turn from the dark, and the light and run. Run fast
as there is more grey there than can ever be digested.Oh, dear. Yet so, so deer.
A fluffy mullet so well worn
And now so slick, even
the uneven spots are torn.
How did it get to this?
What was the driving force?
The pile drive effect
of course.Off course?
Many a hammer has driven
a nail so deep
but oboe’s don’t bend nor buckle
And I shalt not shed a tear
’bout an outright outage
for, as far as I can tell
t’Castle should always
be any mans keep. What of it?
I hear you cry
c’est nuffink. nada. now’t.
Bonjour. Goedenavond. Bienvenido.Hmm.
Interesting, possibly.I’ll gladly promote it, raise prod’s fees and generate the ad cash.
And only a rake of 3.8% of the gross will I demand. The rest you can split ‘tween yourselves
Good work Gentle Folk of this parish.
Some of the words have almost certainly kept this mildly unhinged soul fixated, even from afar!
G’day and have a lovely Christmas one and all.
Betlarge.
Brilliant series of threads without any doubt and regardless of result, an experience! Cheers for that. The ROI may not be where you may have hoped it would be, and the £/hr may be irking you somewhat.
If I’m not mistaken you had "
a separate £30K for this venture
".
Therefore an increase of 19.67% of capital looks like a lovely result to me.Yes, nearly 20% "mark-up", and in just five months, very impressive indeed.
I’d suggest a re-evaluation of financial results and the consideration of compound, compound, and compound! But only on the basis that it doesn’t become a daily grind that "irks" you more than the net result.
Anyhow, keep on keeping on.
…….
Anyway, back to proper music. Right now, I’m going through my Tom Waits’ back catalogue. The man’s a genius.Agree with this Mr. H.
Taken some time to find an appropriate tune for here (for those that may be unaware of TW or unaccustomed to his tunes) but this one usually seems to cover most, if not all bases.Christmas card from a hooker in Minneapolis
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVLtH6Bt8KgAlways love a bit of Blondie Mr P.
Parallel Lines was the first album I ever bought with my own pennies, free will & volition.Currently enjoying a bit of the late, great Ian D, but can’t seem to find a live version on UT for this one, so it’s an as recorded I’m afraid.
Marvellous live version of Elvis Costello performing Watching The Detectives, Koln, Germany June 1978.
I opened this thread expecting to read some good arguments for and against flat and jump racing…..
Me too, but I’m so glad of the Betlarge & Drone exchange. Wonderful stuff Gentlemen. However you’ve made me late for work
I know the Tote still offer Round Robins, but you’ll have to suffer the prices I’m afraid
A wonderful half hour or so spent on The Undertones Many thanks for the nudge, Get Over You is still my all time fave of theirs though.

What a vocal….. BLISS!
In reponse to the poll, I’m really not sure.
I’ve seen plenty of close finishes, that to me at least, are as exciting as they have ever have been.
I’ve seen plenty of "distance" wins, just as there have always been.
Nothing in this respect has changed for me.
Nor has my betting, I’m still able to bag the one winner in five or thereabouts. It’s a shame that the winners odds are less than required to breakeven, but for me this is the usual order of things.Has my enjoyment of racing risen since the rule changes have come in? Probably not, I still enjoy the sport as much and I’m still losing at a similar rate as I always have done.
As to the wider aspects I really don’t feel that I can make an informed and intelligent decision as to whether the rules needed adapting or not with a specified maximum number of strokes until I can find a satisfactory answer to the question of what the avearge number of strokes of the whip/crop that horses received prior to the new rule introduction.
I can agree with the views of most, Sean Boyces’ blog regarding Brian Harding for instance highlights what I would consider a harsh punishment. I can symapthise with Richard Hughes on the first day of the new rules when riding Swift Blade and in that same race I’m glad that Kieran Fox was dealt a harsh and sharp blow for his win on Orthodox Lad.
Just three rides and already I’m tripping over the rights and wrongs of whip/crop usage, and making myself look a fool.
As per the rules, each of these are a breach and have been dealt with by the appropriate (under the current rules) bans, but IMO these are such grey areas that they cannot be dealt with in a black and white manner.A review is most certainly required and the sooner the better, some sort of middle ground has to be found and soon, for the love of the sport and the well being of all if nothing else.
On a separate issue I must say that this is the best post of the day by far

gcEye Shields (for the first time) I believe.
Here’s a few figures for AP when compared to a combined effort of the next 10 "most winning" jockeys in chases. Stats are based on the last 1000 rides.
UR – AP 2.8% : 2.3%
Fell – AP 3.9% : 4.4%
BD – AP 0.5% : 0.4%
PU – AP 11.9% : 14.8%Hope the numbers help, AP seems to have cleaner breeches than some.
