I don’t dispute the fact that it was a prep run. As I said it wasn’t a matter of money for me, I assumed that it was a prep and watched.
As David says it shows a lack of respect to racing but I’d also add to its supporters. If it was genuinely trying then the jockey would have encouraged it unless he felt it was injured. To me it was a non tryer. Because it’s Ballydoyle (or any other of the ‘top’ yards, let’s not pretend that this was an isolated incident) it’s a prep, for other stables it’s a non tryer.
We accept it because we know it happens and that a horse having a third run is getting a mark. If you’re one of the public going racing once or twice a year and you see this then what impression does it leave?

Doesn’t make it right though. I would not have taken those odds but if a horse is running it should be given every opportunity to win or do its best.
If that was a Wigham, S. Williams or Curley horse there would be hell on.

    Bonne chance.

Lost on all four of my bets but sat there delighted at the result. If ever any jockey has served as a great advert for the sport it is AP and I am delighted for him.

Hi mal, no I didn’t find it over there as it’s a very confusing place :D It is the win2win one?
Can you give me a pointer to which area it is in?

Just tuned in here, can you point me to the page where you explain your system as it appears to have changed from the earliest pages? Thanks and good luck.

    mal,
thanks for your input too. I don’t know the Massey site maybe I should look it up. How do your parameters differ from billion’s, if you can share?

billion, thanks for the clarification, keep it going mate

Hi billion. Yesterday’s runners for you included 3 who did not go off as favourites, the three which lost! If you are saying the system is on the way to post should these not be omitted from your records anyway? I know this coould be seen as fitting results to your favour but is the stipulation that the selection is a favourite in the RP a forecast favourite or actual favourite?

now you have opened a can of worms! Opinions can get heated on this from my past experience.
I have looked at various plans from Kelly, to doubling stakes when your bank increases four fold etc (similar to the extract you quote). It’s all too much for my non mathematical brain. I tend to use level stakes though will add extra if I think I’ve got a good thing or extra value. My trouble as always is discipline and having small stakes bets when I get bored or a hunch! I tell myself time after time but I don’t have the discipline to be pro. I do record bets etc and know my strengths but staking is undermined by these daft bets.

    Trying billion trying :D

His point about Spotlight was that it has an influence on betting, as it is what many bettors read as they weigh up a race. At the time he esimated up to 5% extra betting. Now with exchanges and the decline of the betting shop that will have fallen I’d think but his point was to remove overbet horses in the search for value just as you are looking for that 7% extra.
He used handicaps, I’ll try to look at what happens in the next few days though obviously a much longer study is needed to see if the system still has value. It’d be intersting to know his views on many of the systems in that book. It is a good read, as I think most of his work is whether you accept his findings or not.

I’m a ‘genuine race fan’ and I watch Ch4. Their coverage of Cheltenham was excellent. I can’t afford RUK or ATR anyway. People pay to see racing on RUK and ATR. I watch racing for free on Ch4 because the people who advertise on it pay lots of money. Perhaps Ch4 Racing should just cease to exist completely if it’s so awful. I just don’t see what all the fuss is about.

Sorry I didn’t mean to cause any offence moehat. It is an increasing trend though, personally I have given up on C4 coverage because I just don’t like most of the presenters. I accept that others will have different views and I don’t mean to denigrate yours.

I was just reading through Nick Mordin’s ‘Winning Without Thinking’ because I knew your idea rang a bell. He had something similar which I bring up to see if it’s something of interest. He used top rated by both RPR and Topspeed combined with being favourite but NOT selected by Spotlight. It resulted in a good profit but the book is 8 years old so I don’t know how it stands up.
    All the best.

I tend to agree with the poster who says most people would watch the racing channels, partly because we know that C4 is so poor. Which begs the question if C4 are losing the genuine race fans are they bothered? Is that why they give us 2nd rate stuff?
However, to answer your question deep, you just chop some of the endless trailers for upcoming programmes. I can’t see that as a problem.
