Seems a general malaise about BBC racing.

That’s a beautifully positive way of describing something that has pretty much semi-retired itself into oblivion :D

Have these animal rights people not completely misinterpreted Mick Fitzgerald’s comments about "obstacles". Was he not talking about the general procedure where an obstacle (a fence) is avoided if it’s not safe to jump it?

As they approach the fence the jockeys would have no idea whether there was a horse, jockey, or animal rights protester on the other side of the fence? "Obstacle" seems entirely appropriate to me in a general context.

Wasn’t there also a consideration that the flatter layout would be more suitable for the sort of horses that would be available for the meetings at which it was used?

Absolutely right. He was singlehandedly (hoofedly?) responsible for my interest in the sport. I saw him race many times around the London tracks, Wincanton and Huntingdon and it was always a privilege.

On the issue of wrapping in cotton wool, well he clearly wasn’t. But I’m pretty sure that his continued participation in the Tingle Creek towards the end of his career was with a view to minimising the risks associated with running chasers. I remember David Elsworth was asked if it was sensible to still run in such a sprint after he had been beaten (shock!) and his reposnse was pretty much that every fence a chaser jumps could be the last one, so why jump more than you have to if it isn’t the big prize.

And who can argue with the results?

That’s what I thought. When Ladbrokes appeared on PNL one night a week for a brief time it was exclusively Ladbrokes players if I remember correctly. On the other nights you could access the TV tables from any of the included sites, whether it was "their" sponsored night or not.

You should be able to enter the game through either site.
I know the software is the same but are Laddies actually on the same network as the other Prima sites?

The blinds structures on the STTs shown on PNL Live on the Poker Zone channel look faster than the Laddies’ STTs.

One of Flanagan and Allen had them IIRC and I think that Bill Marshall may have been the trainer for whichever it was. I think they may have been in the Marshall family which is how Oh So Risky ended up running in those colours.

I would have liked to see the practice completely banned although I know some riders argue that they are capable of telling if a horse is injured.

But it seems to me that not all injuries show up straight away. Also, other things being equal, a horse that has fallen is more likely to be injured than one that hasn’t. If both those statements are true then on balance I think it would be better to take the decision completely out of the jocks’ hands.
I play on there. $5 to $20 STTs and $5 to $10 multi-table tournaments. Managed to win a $5 multi against 160 people a couple of weeks ago and reached the final table of the $5 ($1000 guaranteed) yesterday.

I occasionally feel that the fish and the Scandanavian crazies get more joy than should based on the odds, but that’s a feeling more than something which I could prove.

Agree with that. It was much better when they were racing bikes round cinders running tracks.

Anything with Johnny Vaughan as the presenter can’t be taken seriously.

I guess he needed a signing on fee to enable him to prevent the boys coming round to break his legs?

A certain Palace full back moved to Arsenal allegedly for similar reasons many years ago if I remember correctly.

We already know from ATR1 that he refers to Ms Hislop on air as Lucious Lydia. Sadly she didn’t give him a good slap.

Somebody will one day. I live in hope.
