I strongly strongly urge everyone to watch the video in the link below:

Sent shivers down my spine, how privileged we have been to witness these two legends, not to mention Best Mate and now Long Run.
For me, Kauto at his peak would reign supreme. No horse could have beaten him in the 2009 King George, and his second Gold Cup was breathtaking. Speed, stamina, class, courage, grit, jumping, versatility and longevity: he had it all.
Not strictly on topic but I found a pretty interesting article on DRF:

Great to see the festival getting coverage in America, as usually they completely disregard the existence of National Hunt racing!
Absolutely brilliant news, just what we needed to hear! Happy retirement Monet’s, hope to see you leading the Old Roan Chase pre parade.
Oh sorry Debby, I thought you meant the schooling one. (Yes I’ve been stalking Youtube the last few days looking for videos of Kauto!)
There’s a great video on Youtube of Kauto’s last work. He looks very well!

Hoping for some history tomorrow.
Incredible incredible mare. By far her easiest win and against tougher competition. Complete and utter legend.
It is shameful how her achievements are overlooked. Even now her form is being franked in Group and Grade 1 races and yet she receives barely any attention compared to Zenyatta or Sea The Stars or even Canford Cliffs. Maybe it’s because, apart from her Prix Jacques Marois romp, she is not a flashy racehorse, but she is incredibly consistent, talented and tough it’s unbelievable. A really great horse.
The wonder mare did it! Goldikova won her ELEVENTH Group 1 in beating a pretty good Prix de la Foret field.
Well no Fist, she’s only beaten the boys when she’s gone to THEIR party. Apart from the BC Classic, she has raced against females her entire career, and that’s including this year. There are many top class horses, including mares, that she is yet to face this year and the opposition in her races has been poor at best. Not a single Grade 1 winner in any of them. Thats what galls a lot of people about her campaign, as such a good horse deserves a better legacy of victories than this.
Yet another Grade 1 win from Goldikova’s vanquished! Court Vision, fourth in last years BC Mile, won the Woodbine Mile on Sunday.
Thanks guys, I’ve made the alterations.
I wouldn’t say that, there are far more Group 1s for STS’ vanquished to win in his absence. Also DB came up against some really good horses in his various races… Green Desert in the Guineas, a champion sprinter outpaced by a middle distance horse. Shahrastani… a duel Derby winner and rated 135 by Timeform. Triptych… very consistent top class mare for several seasons. Bering… previously undefeated and considered the best French horse in years. Acatenango… German champion who won loads of Group 1s.
All in all a pretty decent bunch. I think maybe STS beat a lot more winners of one or two Group 1 races, but came up against fewer comparable horses.
Aw man what are trying to do to me? Also pre RP so an Internet search calls again. Probably won’t be completely accurate but I’ll do my best!
It’s a good measure, but comparing the G1 winners beaten in non G1 races would be dangerous. Not an issue for the greats, but would confuse the issue with the likes of Twice Over.
My thoughts exactly. Especially in two year old races where future Group 1 winners could be defeated by a non-Group 1 winner.
Anddddd Debussy just beat Gio Ponti in the Arlington Million (made me laugh!) to add another string to STS’ bow
Re: Twice Over
When I compiled the list I was not aware of your method of inluding only races that the subject won. Even though all the Twice Over races were Group 1 (Champion Stakes, Breeders Cup Classic, Dubai World Cup, Prince of Wales Stakes), he only won the first of those.
No worries, I didn’t explain how I calculated it. I just figured it would take a lot longer to record all Group 1 winners in all races regardless of the outcome. I did this initially for Goldikova as I was interested in the opposition she had faced in winning her 10 Group 1’s (a remarkable achievement), then just carried on with that method. It just seems fairest to me, as beating other horses in a race won by another horse doesn’t really count, and beating them in lesser races might indicate a drop in form, a prep race or races at the beginning of a horses career, all circumstances that might not see competitors at their best.
Aha, word of warning. I’m using RacingPost, which I’m not sure has records from before 1987, as I could only compile half of Miesque’s races. I’ll see what I can do.
