Zenjah asked me for more after the Goldikova article, hence the one for Zarkava and STS. I’ve done this for many other top class horses, including some American ones (Zenyatta’s may cause a few debates), so if anyone wants a specific horse I can put an article up.

That’s interesting about Twice Over. I’m assuming the majority of those were in the Champion Stakes… just for comparison purposes, I only include those beaten in Group 1 races, and only if the subject of the article won. Therefore I don’t count horses like Raven’s Pass (beaten in the Craven Stakes) or Byword (beaten in the Juddmonte but also beaten by RVW), so I may come up with a different figure to you.

Yeah sure I can post Zarkava’s form. I also did Sea The Stars, and numerous other top class horses from recent years such as Montjeu, Yeats, Giants Causeway, Rachel Akexandra and Zenyatta.

Also, I don’t mean to be rude but is English your second language? If so then Goldikova is female and so referred to as ‘she’ and ‘her’ not ‘he’ and ‘him’. Sorry to be so precise!

Think Special Duty has been earmarked for it, but would expect Goldi to take care of her. Think RP mentioned Paco Boy, but I think she would beat him as well. It’s more her legacy I’m concerned with. She’s still the best miler, but now I think she needs to beat Makfi to really confirm her standing as a great. Then the only miler she hasn’t beaten is Canford Cliffs.

Zenjah; I just wonder if she will get the chance to reoppose Makfi. If she takes him on in the Moulin, she will have had three races in 5 weeks, including one on very soft ground. I have a feeling she may wait until the Foret.

Feeling very deflated after that. Great win for Makfi but God I wanted Goldikova to win! Such a shame the ground came up so bad, a good to soft surface would have been a much fairer surface for all. Ah well, I’m hoping she can get her revenge on better ground.

The going at Deauville today was very soft according to RP. Can someone please tell me how that compares to British going readings. Is that heavy or just soft? Out of interest, Goldikova won the 2009 Prix Rothschild on soft and has won many times on good to soft, but her worst performance came in the 2009 Prix d’Ispahan on soft ground.

I don’t like NTD either but that’s because he’s a dead ringer of my old boss

Haha, just realised that’s true for me too! Maybe that’s where it comes from :P

I don’t support the idea of wanting to see horses beaten… but I’ll make an exception in this case. Really dislike NTD, he came across as so arrogant after the Gold Cup.

"Keep yourself in the best of company and your horses in the worst." It is not your fault if others avoid you horse.

Yeah but her connection are not exactly making it easy for top class opposition to take her on. As far as I’m aware, you don’t get many older males racing in distaff only races, so how one earth can they take her on?

This is what annoys me. She’s proven she can beat males convincingly, so why can’t she face then again? She’s a huge mare, so she’s not at a physical disadvantage like some distaffers (Goldikova). So frustrating.

When will her connection put her in a proper race where she belongs? This was a completely pathetic race, and no where near worthy of her ability. A Grade 1 in name, a Grade 3 race in reality.

I’ve done this for some other horses as well, including Sea The Stars, Zarkava and some of the earlier champions like Montjeu and Giants Causeway. Can post them if anyone’s interested.

Hard to compare, of course but we might be able to compare her to Zenyatta should their paths cross at The Breeders Cup, I think I’d slightly favour the American mare but surely it would be very close to call

I think I’d do the opposite and favour Goldikova over Zenyatta. Yes the American mare is undefeated, but I believe Goldikova has raced in far tougher races more frequently, especially against males (six of which she’s won, compared to Zenyatta’s single victory). She has also raced in three countries, including travelling to Zenyatta’s home turf, whereas the latter has only left California twice.

I haven’t analysed Zenyatta’s form, but I did an article a couple of weeks ago examining the number of Group/Grade 1 winners Goldikova has beaten and the results were extraordinary.

Finally, there are many more Grade 1 races in America, so I think it is more of an achievement to win that many in Europe, where top class horses are more likely to race (and defeat) each other due to more limited opportunities.

I’ve only just joined this forum, but just wanted to point out that actually 6 of Goldikova’s Group 1 victories have been against males (Prix du Moulin, Breeder’s Cup Mile x2, Prix Jacques Le Marois, Prix d’Ispahan and Queen Anne Stakes). She’s only won 3 Group 1’s against females (Prix Rothschild x2 and Falmouth Stakes). Obviously she’s been defeated in two other fillies only Group 1’s by Zarkava and lost the 2009 Prix d’Ispahan against males.

So all in all, she competed in 13 Group 1’s and won 9 with a second, two thirds and a seventh. That doesn’t compare too badly to Miesque, who won a Group 1 as a two year old as well as two Classics.
